WHAT TO KNOW
Applications are ALWAYS OPEN, and will be processed as they are received. They must be posted in the comments, NOT linked to.

Before applying, read the rules & setting page and this post in their entirety. Use the potential applications page or the FAQ if you have any questions about the process. There is also a sample app and an explanation of how we process apps if those interest you. The wanted characters list may also be helpful.

In general, however, we would rather have a shorter, better written application than a longer one, every time. That said, length is one of the least important factors in our applications. We look primarily at the voice samples, then the personality section and writing sample. The voice samples are by far the most important section, and we prefer that these be thread links, because they give us a sense of how you play the character rather than simply how you write an application for the character.

The application page from the former site can be found here.

MISC. RULES
We do allow challenge apps, but we wait the duration of the reserve for the other app to come in before processing them against each other.

Applications or parts of applications (such as the initial comment containing contact information) will be screened on request.

There is a one week grace period for dropped characters during which applications for them will be held pending. The former player can choose to pick up those characters at any time during that week without re-applying.

If you are asked for a revision, you have one week to submit them before your app will be automatically declined. You must resubmit your app in its entirety if that happens. Always feel free to ask us to clarify what we're looking for on revisions; we won't bite.

If you are rejected, we encourage you to re-apply. We like seeing players that have taken our critique and worked on improving their portrayal. The exception is a character rejected on the grounds that they would be difficult to impossible for others to play with. Playability is an important factor.

Our plagiarism policy is as follows: the first offense will be met without consequence. The second offense results in a one month ban from apping. Subsequent further offenses will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis but most likely incur longer bans, up to and including indefinite bans.

APPLICATION IN DETAIL
Your name:
Your journal: A sock is fine, or a commonly used character journal if you don't have a personal one. Just please be consistent with your identity for ease of reference.
Contact: AIM/plurk/email/etc., whatever you prefer to be contacted.
Other characters played at Passing:

Character name:
Character fandom:
Version: V1, V1.# or V2+ should be the only options.
Canon point: What point of their timeline you're taking them from.
Importing development from old game? If yes, where from?
Background: Link to the Wiki entry on it, or if the series has its own wiki, the character's page. A comprehensive fan site is an acceptable substitute. If you cannot find one of these that works well enough for us to get a good grasp of your character from a third party, please write out the standard 'history' section for this on your own. Please include this even if applying for an AU version of the character. OCs need the history section written out as well, obviously.

In general, though, this should be a link whenever possible and not a written history. We use it to compare an unbiased third party account against your represented version of the character. If you include a written history, we will ignore it completely and look up whatever is available for that character on Wikipedia ourselves.

Changes from canon, if AU: What it says. Detail here how the AU world is different from canon, or what events have happened in their previous game that have lead them to be different.

Personality: The meat of the application, and self-explanatory. We want to see that you understand what makes them tick. If AU, try to include explanation for where and why the character has changed from canon.

Abilities: What are they particularly good at, or if they do have superhuman powers, what are they? A bullet point list will suffice.

Writing sample: At least 200 words of your own writing in third person prose, preferably about the character you're applying for. Samples about others are allowed, in any setting. This is to gauge your writing style and technique, not your grasp of character. That's the next section.

Voice sample: You may either write 200 words of your character speaking to himself, or you may link to threads, or you may request to thread with a mod character.

Regular voice sample: If choosing option one, the standard first person sample rules apply. The word count applies only to spoken words, not action in brackets, and since 200 words is a lot for some quiet characters, more than one different samples are allowed.

Linking to threads: If you are linking to threads, make sure they are lengthy ones that demonstrate your understanding of the character. We don't need a million of them, but remember that this is as a substitute for a sample, and we will evaluate it the same way. Threads that took place in other games, museboxes, or [community profile] dear_mun are all fine.

Threading with a mod character: You may also request to thread with a mod character - please do so in the body of your application when you submit it, rather than contacting a mod privately. The first available mod will respond back as soon as possible and discuss with you who your character would be best suited to play off of of their characters, and then you will agree on a time to sit down and crack out a thread.

These will be 'quick log' style in brackets and not prose to make them go faster and keep the focus on dialog. These do not have to be masterpieces of wonder, but your application will not be judged until you have finished the thread (at least 20 comments on your part), so think carefully before choosing this option. The mods will make every effort to respond to your tags quickly.

Version: V2 (part of [personal profile] abrokenking's AU verse)
Canon point: Right around the time they meet Erik.
Importing development from old game? N.
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_First_Class

Changes from canon, if AU: Raven always wanted to be the one that people overlooked. She wanted to be the one that they never looked twice at. She always ended being the freak, though. Her mother was usually too drunk to care about anything and her father was usually drunk enough by the time he got home that the first thing he did when he saw his daughter was to take a swipe at her with the backside of his hand. Raven learned quickly that she needed to be somewhere else when he came home and she often found herself wishing that she could be someone else.

It was during one of those desperate times, curled up in the back of her closet that she wished so hard that she was someone else that she actually became someone else. Someone old enough to stand up to her father. Someone pretty enough that people wouldn't stare at her when she walked down the street. Just someone else.

When she confronted her father, it took a few tries for him to understand that the woman standing in front of him was actually his daughter. Raven thought that she had finally found a way to be someone else. Instead, he smacked her hard across the jaw for what she had done. The blow surprised her and, as she fell back, her natural form came back to the fore.

She was seven.

After that, she started running away. She would leave her house and pose as someone else. Sometimes she'd be a little girl, going to school for the first time and sometimes she'd be an older woman, out looking for a job. The more she experienced, the more she learned about the way the world worked. She'd been hoping to find some kind of peace and she did...for normal people. Still, she reasoned, it wasn't their fault. She was something new. It was only her father who used her strangeness as an excuse to hit her. But despite that, she couldn't help going back to him time and time again. Sometimes it was because she needed something to eat. She could always find something to eat at home, even if he would make her work for it, even if she would have to beg him, tears streaming down her face, for just a single bowl of whatever he and her mother had decided to eat. But there were times when she had it good, too. There were times when she'd worked herself into a life for a few months and things were okay and yet she still went back.

Those were the days when she needed someone to see her for what she really was. She understood the necessity of the mask, understood that she couldn't be different if she wanted to make it in the world outside, but sometimes she still just wanted to be Raven.

It wasn't until she was ten that the cycle of leaving and returning stopped for good. It was then that she met Charles. Pretending at first to be his mother, she was surprised when he could see right through the deception and even more surprised to learn how. He could read her mind. He was different...just like her. She stayed with him for a few days and that was when she found out that Charles' life was so much worse than her own. She'd only had an alcoholic mother and an abusive father. Charles had a step-father who used him. He was experimented on and it both sickened and terrified Raven. No one should have to go through that. At first, she wasn't able to do anything. She didn't know what she could do. But Charles had worked her into his life, he'd made the people around him believe that she was a part of her family and, therefore, she slowly started learning to protect Charles as best she could. She would hide Charles and then claim she didn't know where he was. She would help them look and make sure that they didn't go to the place where he was.

She had become Charles' sister through both his own will and her own desire, but she wasn't his only sibling. He had a brother, Cain, and Raven tried to protect him, too, but when it came down to it and she had to protect one brother over the other, she always protected Charles. He was the one who relied on her and she had to do her best to live up to that faith. It was also the reason why she never went home. Charles needed her just like she needed him. She didn't need her father or her mother again. They'd never wanted her and she'd found something better than people who just knew what she was. She'd found someone who accepted who she was.

After she'd been there a year or two, Cain ran away. It broke her heart and made her even more protective of Charles. She'd go through hell and the rage of his step-father in order to get him through safely. As much as she wanted to, though, she was still years younger than Kurt and, sometimes, he took Charles away. When he came back, Charles was always a little more broken. Raven would cradle him in his arms and tell him that everything would be all right. It was a lie and he'd know it was, but maybe he would see that she was trying her best for them both.

Then, abruptly, she was able to keep her promise. When his mother and step-father died, the tests were over with. She let things stand as they were for a month or two, but soon she decided that they needed something different. It would always be the two of them, but Charles needed to get back in the world. School was a challenge she wasn't sure how they were going to face. Charles didn't do well in groups and that's all school was. As his 'mother', she was often called in after school while the administrators talked to her about Charles' behavior and about his outbursts and she would come back and remind them of how brilliant he was and that he would never change and be more like how they thought a normal student should be unless he was allowed to be around other children.

Her arguments won and Charles flourished under the learning, if not the socialization. Honors and awards were heaped on him and he treated them like they were nothing. Sometimes Raven wondered if this is what the rest of her life would be like. She loved Charles, she would do anything for him, but she never really had a life of her own. She had the occasional date, sure, but more often than not, those relationships ended when they met Charles. They wanted her to be normal, they wanted her family to be some picture-perfect family and she refused to be that. And so it ended. Not Charles' fault, really, and she didn't blame him for it at all, but it still left her feeling isolated and, unlike Charles, she didn't like that isolation.

The first time she met Moira MacTaggert, Raven already disliked her. She had caught Charles unawares and was trying to get him to talk about mutations and his work like they were things to be found in the real world. They were, of course, but Raven was terrified at first that they'd been caught out. It wasn't until after she had intercepted the conversation in progress and made Moira say to her what she had said to Charles that she understood. There were other people like her and like Charles out there. The idea of them being bad or good didn't hit her at first and she agreed after a moment's conferral with Charles to help in any way that she and Charles could. Things spiraled from normal to out of control in a matter of days. First the CIA found out about the existence of mutants and then she and Charles were whisked off to a Coast Guard vessel, travelling the darkness in search of others like them. It was only when they found the mutants, the others like them, that it hit her. Not all of them were kind and gentle like Charles. There were some as bad if not worse than Charles' step-father. Now they didn't just have a mission to find others like them, they had a duty to protect the people who couldn't protect themselves. Just like she had protected - and still did protect - Charles.

Personality: Raven is driven by the need to protect. First, she tries to protect herself, then she tries to protect Charles, and finally, she is beginning to learn that she has to protect the normal humans from the mutants, from the people who have abilities like she and Charles have, but who use them in the most cruel ways. She tries not to see this need to protect, especially of Charles, as a burden. Especially Charles, since he can read into her mind and since he knows every last thing about her. Instead, she views it as a way to help other people, like Charles had first helped her. She'd had no one to turn to until she met Charles and he changed everything for her.

She is, by necessity, a bit of a loner. When she's without Charles, she definitely enjoys a little fun, but much of her time is spent looking after her brother and he has become her brother over the years. When she is by herself, she tries to be friendly and outgoing. She wants to see the best in people. When she's finally forced to see the truth, like she did when she learned about Shaw, she is crushed.

Raven only really feels comfortable around Charles, but that's more because she yearns to have people who love her for what she is rather than who she appears to be. At the same time, she rarely ever changes from her blonde form unless there's a reason to. When there is, she will change without a moment's hesitation. She knows that she isn't who she projects to the world. She's more than that, but she refuses to let others know what she is because of the reaction of her father when she was a child. He hated her for what she was and so she believes that others will hate her. She wonders whether she'll feel more comfortable when she's around her own kind.

Abilities: Raven has the ability to change her outer appearance. This includes the ability to mimic other mutants physical abilities (see: Logan's claws), but these appendages remain flesh.

Writing sample: Cain was gone.

Raven noticed almost immediately after getting out of bed. It was her usual pattern to check on both of the boys and then go find out where Kurt was. If he was up and active, she would sometimes wake up either Cain or - usually - Charles and get them out. She'd tell them she wanted to go for a walk or wanted to go to town or some other nice lie that she knew they could probably see through. Anything that would get them out of the line of fire.

The first person she'd checked on that morning was Charles. Charles always looked so small and vulnerable when he was sleeping. It was like he didn't have a care in the world and Raven could almost forget what happened to him when he was awake. Almost. Then she shut his door and went down the hall to Cain's room. She opened it without knocking, in case he was asleep, and was mildly surprised to find him already awake and not in her room. She didn't start worrying for the first ten minutes. Twenty minutes after that, she woke up Charles to help in the search and he was able to tell her what she had been afraid of. Cain wasn't there anymore.

A lump stuck in her throat and it felt like her heart was being squished between two tight hands. She'd wanted to protect them, to protect them both, but had only managed to protect Charles.

Character name: Quorra
Character fandom: TRON: Legacy
Version: V1
Canon point: End of Legacy
Importing development from old game? Nope
Background: Quorra @ TRON Wikia

Changes from canon, if AU:

Personality:
In many ways, Quorra is very childlike in nature: naive, innocent, but extremely passionate. She is very curious, especially about the world of the Users. She has no specific way she prefers to learn, using books or from example or by stories from Kevin Flynn. And she applies what she learns to the way she operates in situations, given that Flynn was attempting to teach her the way of the selfless, and she gave herself up to CLU so that the two Flynns could get away safely. Despite this, however, Quorra prefers the books about science fiction and inventions, specifically Jules Verne.

She doesn't know how to properly act in certain situations with Users, laughing at a joke that certainly wasn't funny to Flynn. When interacting with Users she tends to be quiet and observe their ways, attempting to understand them. It shows her childlike nature, especially when she explaining the things she loves or admires. Even though Quorra is an ISO (isomorphic algorithm), she always places herself on the same level as Programs: Users are like gods, and she was able to exist because of the world Flynn created. However it doesn't limit her in her choices, or doing what she believes is right. She purposely goes behind Flynn's back to help Sam, believing that it will ultimately help Flynn and stop CLU.

Her strong moral compass of what is right and wrong plays into her being a warrior. Quorra is described as being a "Joan of Arc" character by her actress. Strong, passionate, but kind and understanding. She will put herself on the front lines to defend who she loves. She will place herself in the path of deresolution, despite being the only remaining ISO. It shows in her strategies the Go games she plays with Flynn, always trying to attack head on even if she is out matched.

Quorra is extremely loyal to the Users, mainly Kevin Flynn and therefore Sam Flynn. Even when knowing that Flynn was the one who created CLU and CLU was the one who destroyed her people, she never falters in her position. She has a sadness and loneliness to her about being the only remaining ISO, but it doesn't hold her back. She moves forward.

Abilities:
Quorra is skilled in the combat of the Grid. Like Programs, Quorra learned to fight with her Identity Disk, but also with batons and swords. Each weapon is used at a different occasion, but she is capable of wielding two at the same time, usually in the combination of her Identity Disk and the sword (which forms from the baton). Instead of using the disk for long range combat, Quorra specializes in keeping it as a melee weapon, while she uses the sword for blocks and parries.

She knows how to drive vehicles on and off the Grid, the Light Runner specifically, and can quickly learn how to drive and/or pilot ones she never has before (the Light Jet).

Character name: Master Chief | John | SPARTAN-117
Character fandom: Halo
Version: V 2.0
Canon point: Post-Halo 3 AU
Importing development from old game? Econtra, with a few changed events on the aftermath of the game and a little development from Dressing Rooms.
Background: Link on Halopedian.

Changes from canon, if AU: With the end of the Battle of the Ark and the victory of humanity against the Covenant, John-117 was left along with Cortana on the aft of the Forward Unto Dawn. With little hope for rescue in many years, the Master Chief entered cryosleep. Knowing that her lifespan as an AI had been severely shortened, and that she could die during his long sleep, his last words to Cortana were to wake him when she ever needed him.

Another world, however, saw fit to call him for duty to help save it: The world of Econtra. Unlike many residents that were drafted with either happy lives after having finished their conflict, or others that still had many things to do to save their own worlds, the Spartan was different: His quest to protect his world succeeded at a very high cost. His home had been glassed, nearly all of the people he cherished had died or had gone missing for too long to have any hopes, and ended his war alone and abandoned thousands of stars away from home.

He arrived believing he had nothing left, save for the duty that was given to him.

In there, he made friendships and alliances with many of the residents, some of whom would create lasting bonds with the Master Chief. Most importantly, he reunited with many fellow Spartans and UNSC personnel to share information about their world, and prepare the worlds of the younger Spartans for the most crucial moments in the War against the Covenant in their timelines.

Beside learning of the fate of Dr. Halsey, Senior Chief Mendez, and of the rest of the Spartans at Onyx, he learned the entire truth of the SPARTAN-III Project. The revelation of hundreds of children, made Spartans, and sent to suicide missions, shook his foundations somewhat. It became one of the driving points of the Master Chief to save the Spartans that remained.

Most importantly for his world and of those of his comrades stuck in the Nexus world of Econtra, he faced the most vicious creature to ever be encountered by a Spartan in combat. After many tortures by the Keepers and the Entropi alike, the residents won, and the Master Chief finished his duties in Econtra carrying vital intelligence – related to his world, and to the alien enemy he fears could ever return.

With the conclusion of the Econtra campaign, he chose to return to the aft of the Forward Unto Dawn, to Cortana, even if it meant he would have to return to a frozen grave, with the dying hope that he would ever be found. He clung to the hope that someone would find him, and that he would find a way to find the Spartans at Onyx, and find a way back to Earth. All, to follow the promise of Johnson not to let Cortana go. But it was not the end of his adventures out of his universe.

Cortana, upon realizing what had happened to the Master Chief, discovers the slipspace rupture that accompanied him when he left and returned, caused by the Econtra AI known as the “Indigeo”. With the closest alternative for rescue available, she performs one final sacrifice for the Master Chief: She diverts the remaining energy of the Forward Unto Dawn into firing a beacon into the rupture for anybody in the multiverse to find them. The rest of the energy is sent directly to the lone pod that remained for years. With no more energy for her to operate with, Cortana succumbed to Rampancy and AI death.

Eventually, he is found by an old friend from the world of Econtra: The former senshi of water and knowledge, Mercury, Mizuno Ami as she was known by her friends. Having received the signal, the soldier ventured into the world of the Spartan to wake him from his sleep. With the Nav database erased as marked by the Cole Protocol upon immobilization of the ship, she transports the Master Chief to another Nexus while he prepared for his return.

With the slipspace rupture closed and his path back to the Dawn severed, the Master Chief realized he would not see his world for a long time. Even then, his objective became to return to his Earth, save his team trapped at Onyx, and report everything that transpired in his journeys.

For several days, the Master Chief remained to rest, re-arm and repair his equipment in the Nexus while he waited for another slipspace rupture to open up for his universe. In there, he made a few friends and allies, some of them related to the people he knew from the world of Econtra... However, apart from Mercury, John did not find UNSC personnel, or anybody that hailed from the world of Econtra.

By the time another time-space rupture opened by the concentration of numerous slipspace-capable ships, the Master Chief found himself in the middle of a Jiralhanae Fleet, the Fleet of the Fateful Path, preparing for a jump to engage another, similar one. The Spartan snuck aboard the Covenant Flagship Prominency, and for days, he remained hidden to wait for the adequate moment to strike, readying himself for a one-man raid until the time was right.

Once the Fleet engaged another in combat in a clear act of Civil War, the Master Chief revealed himself, and fought his way through dozens of Grunts, Jackals, and Brutes that had long-since considered the Spartan an unstoppable demonic force. Before a nearby Separatist fleet appeared to take advantage of the chaos that spread with the reports of the Spartan, the Master Chief successfully stole the Nav database of the Covenant ship – And activated his PINpoint to be sent back to the Nexus before his ship was burned to cinders.

Now with the knowledge that the Covenant Civil War was still raging on after the end of the Great War, he realized the conflict for humanity has not really ended. Once the Covenant ceased fighting, they could turn their eyes back on humanity. This forced the Master Chief to continue preparing and re-arming himself with as much technology from many universes as he could obtain.

Most importantly, now with a Covenant Nav Database in his hands, he's waiting for the chance to translate the file, and use it once a slipspace rupture opens again for him to return to his world.

In the meantime, for the years following the Econtra Campaign, the Master Chief had been venturing into several other worlds and Nexuses performing a few odd jobs, mercenary duties, and favors, to support himself and his equipment as he prepares for the next time a slipspace rupture opens up in his world.

Personality:

One thing that must be known before delving into his personality is his history: Having been stolen at the age of six, raised in a military environment, and having lived for the whole of his adult life in war, John-117 grew up for most of his life in a tight-knit group, learning to care for each and every person he serves with, and developed a control over his emotions beyond even that of the rest of the Spartans; but almost to socially crippling levels. Those that become his enemies, they will be lucky if he ever takes the time to give him a single word as he fights.

Those that know him will notice he's quite laconic, and rather fluent in dry humor for many of his interactions. He speaks what is necessary, and elaborates when required upon him. For much of his life, he lived with individuals with whom the tiniest motion of body language could be read, and interacted almost solely with those of his unit, save for a handful of outsiders. Even outside of his element, he retains this way of communicating himself.

With those he's the close with, he can joke and send dry humor their way, but feels limited in this regard due to his position as the Commanding Officer of the SPARTAN-II. Must be noted, however, that he's more open nowadays thanks to Econtra, and not as limited as he used to be in the past. It's close friends that see this side of him more often.

John is not cold. He is compassionate and willing to sacrifice himself if it means saving one more person. But having seen and done many things, he's both accustomed and scarred by his entire decades fighing, but not completely. In the last five years, his whole life changed violently and abruptly with the fall of his home, the discovery of ancient threats, and his journeys through several universes.

In a way, he's of the “Seen It All” type, but not immune to surprise or fear. He feels fear, but pushes it to the back of his mind and transforms it into a drive to fight. It's the reason he has been considered the bravest, luckiest, and arguably the best among the SPARTAN-II.

After forty years of using the armor, he cannot let go of it. The air feels cold for him, and he has almost turned pale for the long time he has lived inside of it. Not watching the world from behind his visor and his HUD makes him feel exposed. While Spartans in general need the MJOLNIR on a personal level, the armor is almost a part of him, he and it are one and the same, and feels skinless out of it.

Growing up in a military environment made him unaware of many social customs and ways of thinking until after the Fall of Reach, though most of his maturity and emotional hardness was obtained throughout the Human-Covenant War. He's grown ever since, but a civilian lifestyle is not within his line of thought.

For instance, a big part of his character that still remains with him even after paid dearly for continuing to think like that, is the desire to win.

Halsey noted that, in a way, Spartans resemble children. Despite his very keen mind and leadership abilities, there are things John simply did not understand for some time, such as winning not being the most important thing, and things outside of the way the military in general thinks. Having spent a few years outside of the wing of the UNSC has made him improve a lot on this matter.

Because of his mother, Halsey, Cortana, and Ami, he holds those that are intelligent and strong in high esteem – women particularly, seeing in them the recurrent traits from the people he has grown to cherish.

An important part of his character are promises. When he gives you his word, he'll return to his grave, cross through worlds apart, or venture into hell to fulfill it. Sometimes he knows he will not win, but he will still devote himself to it, for that person he gave his loyalty to.

This does not mean he will completely let go of his own moral codes, his orders, the laws of the UNSC, or his patience for them. For instance, Dr. Halsey is treated by almost all of the Spartans as both their Commanding Officer and their mother, but when she told John through Cortana to rest after having taken too many injuries after the battle of Halo 04, he snapped saying that he “doesn't take orders from civilians – not even her.” ... Even when he had been doing that for Halsey for a long time, treating her as both her Commanding Officer and his mother.

A scenario better used as a comparison is Cortana: After the promise that he'd return to her, he focused first on ending Truth's plans before he ventured again into an infested High Charity. After Econtra, he fulfilled Johnson's last will not to let her go, by returning to the aft of the Forward Unto Dawn.

For most of his life, he categorized people as “squadmates”, “officers”, and “threats”, and see deaths as either “spent lives” and “wasted lives”, even when he had been warned by his trainer not to rely on those terms too much, and finding out that even he would hesitate to classify any death as either a needed sacrifice or a pointless loss.

It was after the Battle of Halo 04 when he learned the true importance of lives. While he had been brave and noble even before his conscription, he was part of those that believed in the sacrifice of the few for the good of the many; after seeing many of her Spartans die and the Covenant at the doorstep of Earth, Dr. Halsey admitted to John that she had been mistaken in justifying her actions:

"For a long time I had thought that we had to sacrifice the few for the good of the entire human race... I have killed and maimed and caused a great deal of suffering to many people – All in the name of self-preservation... But now I'm not sure that philosophy has worked out too well. I should have tried to save every single human life—No matter what it cost."

It wasn't until after her saw more pointless deaths, and seeing Linda-058 prepared to die onboard the Unyielding Hierophant when he finally understood what Halsey meant – how a single person could make a difference in an entire war. With it, he devoted himself to save as many lives as he could.

However, the Battle of the Ark tested his resolve for that philosophy. Being unable to save Miranda, Johnson, and Cortana, the Master Chief felt guilt for not fulfilling his promise of saving everyone and getting them all home – feeling he failed himself and Halsey. It was something he grew to accept with time. That in spite of how much he fought, that he would not be able to save everyone. He learned that winning wasn't always the most important thing. There would be times in which he would never win.

The days following the Fall of Reach and his adventures throughout several worlds, however, have become a bigger part of his character. It has been confirmed that he has been scarred psychologically after the events of the three Halo games. After the Fall of Reach, he was driven to his limits not only physically, but psychologically for months: He saw his home glassed and lost dozens of his Spartans (his family) be slaughtered in that battle, he found the ringworlds and faced the Flood more than once, he lost everyone dear to him in the last months of the war save for Cortana, and he had to deal with the pressure of saving an entire galaxy with three races crying for the death of humanity.

The events at Econtra gave him some respite, and made him a lot more social, but in other matters, they continued to scar him: The Entropi by themselves were bad enough as they are, but their ability to destroy entire dimensions; along with the screeches, their attacks that were able to burn armor as if it wasn't there, and the smell of rotten flesh caused a strong psychological aversion in him towards them. They reminded him of the worst things of his war. The smell of the Flood, the plasma of the Covenant, and the destruction he had to avert to save his world. Ultimately, his entire experience in Econtra changed him as strongly as the months following the Fall of Reach and the battles of the Halo rings. Right now, those very elements of the alien race are his greater fears, and are now along with the nightmares he has of the last days of his war.

In a way, it also strengthened him.

Having faced the ultimate challenge for any Spartan, an abomination capable of killing gods and reducing entire dimensions to barren wastelands, his morale improved a lot. After having fought, survived, and won against the alien threat, he is confident he can take on stronger opponents, relying not only on merely physical power, but on intellect, teamwork, and unity.

Character name: Rei Hino / Sailor Mars
Character fandom: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
Version: V1
Canon point: The beginning of Sailor Moon SuperS
Importing development from old game? No
Background: Wiki Article on Sailor Mars

Changes from canon, if AU:

Personality: Rei is, as one might expect for an avatar of Mars, a bit of a hothead. She has a quick temper and will unleash an acerbic tongue on anyone unfortunate enough to draw her ire. She is also stubborn, refusing to back down without a fight, and often gets into arguments with Usagi, her nominal leader.

When Usagi, Ami and Luna first approach Rei at the shrine regarding some mysterious disappearances, she is extremely reluctant to deal with them. She has been fairly isolated from people since she was a child, other than her grandfather, and tends to be a bit suspicious and untrusting at first glance. She tends to try and rely more on herself than anyone else, especially in the early part of the series.

However, like all the other Senshi, she is extremely loyal, to Princess Serentiy/Usagi, perhaps even more so than the others due to the close relationship she has with her. Rei would (and does) die for Usagi without a thought. It is also worth noting that Rei and Usagi seem to have an especially close relationship, with Rei often eschewing the use of any honorifics when Usagi is in trouble, as opposed to the other senshi. When Sailor Jupiter (Makoto Kino) is introduced, she even asks in Rei and Usagi are sisters, as she can tell they’re very close to each other.

Once she’s a friend to someone, she tends to open up a bit and often teases her friends, especially Usagi, who receives no relief from the good-natured ribbing that Rei gives her. It may, to some, appear to be malicious but Rei teases to show she cares. Around her close friends (namely the other senshi) she tends to adopt a sort of big-sister role, trying to stay a little aloof. But her very real affection for all of them, as well as her quick tongue and all-around enthusiasm for their duties and other activities tend to break down this imposed barrier quite often.

In the anime, she is also a bit more of a typical teenager in some ways, having a grasp on and interest in pop culture and music, as well as having dreams of becoming a pop star herself. She has some domestic dreams and like the other girls tends to think about the possibilities of marriage in the future.

As a Sailor Senshi, Rei seems to be primarily motivated by her dogged loyalty not just to Usagi and Princess Serenity, but to the rest of her friends. She sacrifices herself to help Usagi continue onwards to face Queen Beryl at the end of the first arc. Rei also has a strong sense of duty towards the people of the Earth, whom they protect, as she argues strongly in favor of going to the North Pole to confront Beryl directly, again at the end of the first arc. Her sense of justice burns brightly as well and the Soldier of Mars is outraged at the methods their enemies use to prey upon innocents.

Abilities:ith the powers granted to her as an Inner Senshi, Rei is able to transform into Sailor Mars, giving her greater physical abilities (strength, endurance, agility), as well as the power to shoot a fireball from her fingers when she shouts the words ‘Fire Soul,’ and is also able to let loose rings of flame at her enemies by shouting ‘Burning Mandala.’

Further, in her ‘civilian’ form she has a few minor psychic abilities, including precognitive dreams and is able to sense evil spirits as well as perform minor divination. She is also capable of performing exorcisms and binding evil spirits, part of her abilities as a miko or shrine maiden. As part of her training in this capacity, she has also become an accomplished and skilled archer.

Writing sample: Winter wasn’t exactly Rei’s favorite season, but it did have a certain charm to it, she had to admit. The girl stood just under the roof of the shrine, watching the snow drift silently down onto the courtyard. She’d have to sweep it later. Or maybe she should just start now, seeing as it wasn’t all that bad in terms of the precipitation. She hefted the broom and stepped outwards, breath condensing in the cool air. Rei shivered. The cold reminded her of the arctic and the events that had taken place there. Pushing the dark memories aside, she began to sweep, a small smile on her face. She didn’t mind the chores around the shrine, in fact, sometimes they helped her focus her mind on problems she was having. Other times, just some time to think. She shifted her broom and slapped some more snow off to the side. Ah, it was beginning to stop. Good, it meant she wouldn’t be fighting the stuff the rest of the afternoon. She glanced up at the shrine. The other girls would probably be by at some point considering how the Hikawa Shrine had become a sort of unofficial meeting spot for the whole team. That was assuming there wasn’t some sort of dangerous situation that required their attention, of course. Knowing the way things went being a senshi, though, it was almost a given.

It had been quite some time since the day she’d been given her transformation pen by Luna (a talking cat, which at the time had shocked her), and she had to admit that she wouldn’t give up the (usually dangerous) job for anything. She had four wonderful friends, especially Usagi; admittedly, they argued quite a bit, but they were closer to each other than the others, as well. Another deft stroke of the broom and a path had been swept clear. Good. Now maybe she could go inside and make up some tea or hot chocolate. The cold bit into her more a bit more vigorously. The arctic came to mind again, though this time she had to wonder why the uniforms were so damned bad at keeping them decently warm. You’d think that with the magic they’d be able to add a coat or something! With that thought and a small grin, Rei turned back to head inside. Enough cold for now.

Voice sample: Her first post at Queen of Hearts, and a log post with Minako with a decent amount of dialogue. Figured I’d cover my bases!

Character name: Tsukuyomi Tsukino (Usagi Tsukino)
Character fandom: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon crossoving slightly with Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
Version: V3
Canon point: After Venus joins the senshi
Importing development from old game? No
Background: Wiki article on the series
Wiki article on Usagi Tsukino

Changes from canon, if AU: The past life happened as in many other versions of this universe, with the exception that when Serenity committed suicide she also released the power of the ginzuisho which destroyed both the Moon and the Earth kingdoms. Only Serenity's mother survived, at least long enough to use the ginzuisho herself to make the Earth return to its previous form and send the souls of everyone who had died in that war to the blue planet, in order to be reborn in the future without memories of their past. However, the process wasn't completed and memories of the past still chased those reborn in the future at times. Usagi Tsukino was one of those people.

Since she was a baby, the young Usagi would often scream and cry at night, haunted by nightmares that sometimes plagued her mind even when she still didn't have enough presence of mind to know who she was. Her nightmares always consisted of the same thing, a crying beautiful princess who had lost her prince and who brought destruction to the whole world because of it. She grew up tormented by those dreams that felt way too real for her to be able to just ignore them, dreams that came to her far too often to be able to forget them. Even without being able to fully understand their meaning, she came to fear that the princess of her dreams, the one who destroyed the whole world just for one person, was somehow connected to her... While other girls of her age dreamed with being princesses, the little Usagi got sick at the mere thought of being a princess, she hated the idea, disliked it with all her mind and heart. A princess selfish enough to just care about one person, a princess capable of bringing pain to others just like that, who would want to be a princess like that? She didn't. She loved the world where she lived, she loved her parents and her little brother, she loved her friends and their families, even the teachers at school, she didn't want to ever become someone who would hurt them all just because of one person, no matter how important said person was. She tried her best to detach herself from the princess in her dreams. She rejected being called a princess even by a pet name, she refused to wear princess costumes or even try to get the princess role in a school play. She didn't want to he a princess, no matter what, she felt she shouldn't be allowed to and she really didn't feel comfortable with it.

It's hard to exactly pinpoint when it happened or how, most likely it was just another response to the princess, another act against it, a rebellion and an attempt to make the princess of her dreams someone far too different from her, but Usagi came to the realization that she didn't feel comfortable being a girl, that she didn't like being a girl and wished to have been born male, because then she wouldn't have to be haunted by that princess that destroyed everything, because boys couldn't be princesses, just princes. And so, Usagi herself cut her hair, destroying the odango hairstyle her mother worked so hard on doing for her, leaving her hair short like a boy's. She began to dress only in pants, rejecting skirts and frilly clothing just as she rejected princess costumes. She also began to talk in a deeper voice, more boyish, and changed her manner of speech to that of a boys until finally, she began to address herself as a boy named Tsukuyomi completely disregarding Usagi's existence. Though the changes worried her parents, at first they assumed it was just a "stage", something that would change with time. But it didn't change, because the more she transformed and became a boy, thought of herself as a boy, the more comfortable she was and the more she realized that being a boy was "right" for her. As if it was what she should have always been even beyond the matter with the nightmares and the princess. Ultimately the identity of Usagi vanished from her mind, leaving only Tsukuyomi, a boy trapped in a female's body and nothing anyone said or did changed that.

Live wasn't easy for Tsukuyomi. It didn't matter how right it felt to acknowledge that he was a boy even if the body didn't match his gender identity, for a world which judged people based on appearances he was a girl and not everyone could understand something as simple as feeling that the female body he had just didn't really belong to him. It was just like when playing a video-game and controlling a character, he was controlling said character, their actions, their thoughts... But the body of the character wasn't his, it simply didn't match. His body certainly felt as if it didn't match, it was uncomfortable and if it had been mere clothing he would have gotten naked without hesitation just to get out of that skin. Even his family had problems understanding it, both his parents and his little brother had problems making sense of the fact that their daughter and sister felt as a boy once they realized that it wasn't just a stage that would pass. At school things weren't better, even with a school change, they couldn't lie about the biological gender of the child and many teachers would see Tsukuyomi's gender issue as something that had to be corrected rather than accepted. Yet, even though the world didn't see beyond appearances, Tsukuyomi didn't revert back to Usagi, because it felt easier to just be disliked and ignored by the world for not fitting with what they expected than to be unable to live because he didn't fit with himself.

It took many years of hard work and effort, but by the time Tsukuyomi was fourteen, his family had come to accept him even if at times his mother would lament to have lost her daughter. To make things easier for Tsukuyomi, the family agreed on saying that from the start there had been two kids, twins, a girl and a boy, but that the boy had been terribly sick during his first years, leaving only Usagi to be known until she died, just when her brother began to recover to be able to go out. Though there were people who knew the truth, for those who didn't the story made sense and even some of the people who knew the truth decided to believe the fabricated story as it made things easier. At school only a few members of the staff knew the truth, for the rest and the students Tsukuyomi is a boy both in mind and body. He still had to face problems due how his body and identity don't match, but overall he's able to have a normal life. The nightmares still haunted him, but he no longer felt identified, he was a boy, the princess was a girl, starting from such a basis there was no way they could ever be the same person. Life was good.

Until Tsukuyomi found a black cat with a crescent moon mark on her forehead. Though Luna couldn't understand how Sailor Moon, a female senshi of the Moon Kingdom, could have been reborn as a boy, she was completely sure that Tsukuyomi was the one she was looking for and managed to convince him to try to transform. Tsukuyomi expected it to not work, but apparently the transformation didn't care of he felt as a boy or not and he transformed into Sailor Moon, a healthy looking female that even had the odango hairstyle he had destroyed years ago. The events of that tragic night were too rushed and almost unreal, to the point where even he doubts they really happened. Transformed, he had to rush to fight a youma in order to help a classmate, while being told that he would have to do that from then on, transforming and becoming a magical girl that fought monsters while searching for a princess and her magical crystal. Tsukuyomi can't explain why the story the cat told him shook him down to his very core, bringing up the feelings regarding the princess of his nightmares, it repulsed him and he refused to do it almost desperately. Because he refused to fight, though, he put himself, his classmate and Luna in danger which resulted with the cat being gravely injured and killed before Tsukuyomi was able to defeat the youma. Still, even though he didn't want to transform and fight while looking so much like the princess from his dreams, Tsukuyomi couldn't bring himself to not worry about the youma. He kept his eyes and ears open, just in case something strange happened around him that could be related to the youmas. Without transforming he had a great disadvantage, yet the boy tried to fight the monsters all the same, it helped that they seemed to be attracted to him once they took notice of his energy which seemed to be higher than normal -consequence of the ginzuisho being inside of him-. It was hard to fight but he soon found an ally in the masked fighter Tuxedo Mask who, after finding Tsukuyomi fighting the youmas every time there was one around no matter how much in disadvantage he was, eventually decided to teach the boy how to fight so he could do something else besides being a distraction. Soon, Tsukuyomi and Mamoru Chiba, the real identity of Tuxedo Mask, became friends and fought together even if each of them had their own agenda.

But Tuxedo Mask wasn't the only ally that Tsukuyomi would find. Not long after the start of his friendship with the older boy, Tsukuyomi finally dared to talk with a girl who he had been observing for years thanks to the fact that both of them always went to the school's rooftop at lunch hour to eat their meals. Ami Mizuno, classmate, school genius and basically lunch companion despite the fact they never talked before. Once Tsukuyomi gathered courage and actually started to talk to her, though, the two of them soon were talking and even going home and back to school together, to the point that there were rumors that both were dating. Their relationship got only even closer when Tsukuyomi heard strange things about Ami's new cram school, eventually checking on it which resulted into a fight with a youma that had been gathering energy from students. Wanting desperately to help Tsukuyomi and save him when he got in trouble for trying to stop the monster, Ami awakened as a senshi, Sailor Mercury, defeating the monster with her powers. From them on the two of them formed an even closer team than how Tsukuyomi was with Mamoru (after all Mamoru had his own agenda as Tuxedo Mask and wouldn't appear if there weren't jewels or strange powers involved), fighting the youmas while Ami struggled to understand her mission as a senshi as she knew that she had one but couldn't remember it.

In the following weeks and in a rather quick succession, Ami soon was joined by two other girls who awakened their senshi powers while facing the youmas, Rei Hino (Sailor Mars) and Makoto Kino (Sailor Jupiter) joined the duo team... And caused several rumors of Tsukuyomi having an harem spread around school due the amount of time he spent with the girls. Though the girls certainly tried to keep him from getting involved in the fights, thinking that as a civilian he shouldn't put himself in danger, the boy refused their attempts and kept assisting them. However, even with three senshi reunited, they still didn't know what their mission was, being stuck at just chasing youmas because they were the enemy they could see and since no one else could do anything about them, the girls took the eradication of those monsters as their duty. It wasn't until the well known heroine Sailor V joined them as Sailor Venus (Minako Aino) that the senshi finally gained a guide in Artemis the cat and a purpose for their existence as senshi. But there were still many questions in their heads...

Character name: Usagi Tsukino / Eternal Sailormoon
Character fandom: Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon
Version: V1 -- Manga.
Canon point: After the defeat of Nehelenia.
Importing development from old game? Nope.
Background: Usagi / Sailormoon / past life as Princess Serenity / future life as Neo-Queen Serenity.

Changes from canon, if AU: n/a

Personality:
When playing the role of narrator in her own story, Usagi describes herself as "a bit rash and a crybaby." Having lived a rather care-free life (until a certain feline came into it) she really only had the same worries than any other 14-year-old at the time had. She is a total klutz, and very much a glutton, always interested in stuffing her face with goodies. The irony of the situation is that she isn't very domestically inclined, and isn't very capable in the kitchen, no matter how she tries... Waking up early in the morning to make it to school on time was, and still is, one of her greatest challenges, even years later. Truth be told, she isn't exactly the most academically inclined individual either, often having to take make-up tests and receiving red-letter grades on her assignments. It's not that she's stupid either (because as we see she is capable of being successful when she applies herself/is pushed to) but when it comes to schoolwork and school in general, she can be a little on the lazy side. Reading the newest manga is much more exciting than studying for that math or english test, after all. And daydreaming is just so much more appealing...

Usagi is actually a very social creature, she makes friends very easily, and others almost seem to gravitate towards her. She is loyal and understanding, and puts all of her faith in others, often without question. She can be quite naïve, but she does believe in the innate good in others, even when they don't quite believe it themselves. She hates seeing others suffer, and more often than not, is willing to take their place if it means easing their pain. She is quite altruistic, and doesn't want to see anyone hurt in the course of their lives, often putting her own safety into question in the process. Sympathetic even with her greatest enemies, she truly seems to believe that no one has to hurt, or be hurt as long as everyone works hard together. Anything can be accomplished so long as you have faith in one another. Miracles can happen.

Of course, she is far from perfect, also. Usagi is capable of being quite jealous and possessive, especially where her boyfriend/fiancé, Mamoru Chiba, is concerned. At first she isn't even willing to share him with their future daughter, and feels pushed aside when they start to spend more time together. Her feelings can be quite easily hurt where Mamo-chan is involved, and he can probably be considered one of her greatest weaknesses, as well as a source of great strength. She isn't above childish bickering either (especially with Chibiusa and Rei in particular), but this usually serves as an indicator of those that she's especially close with -- although they have their differences, they always know that when it comes down to it, they can count on one another.

Throughout the years and various experiences, and relationships that she has built, however, Usagi has most certainly shown the capacity to change, and mature. She managed to buckle down with her entrance exams so that she can attend Juuban High with her friends, just as they had always dreamed. She also displays her ability to grow as a person, becoming a little less selfish, leaving some of her more childish qualities by the wayside. But, let's face it -- she still has a little ways to go before they're a thing of the past.

Abilities:
"Moon Eternal, Make Up!" / "Silver Moon Crystal Power, Make Up!" → Transformation phrase. When used in conjunction with the Silver Crystal, which is usually kept close by in her brooch, this allows Usagi to transform into the sailor suited soldier of love and justice, Eternal Sailormoon! In this form, she gets an overall boost to her normal abilities -- speed, defense... etc.

"Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss!" → Used with the Eternal Tiare, this is Eternal Sailormoon's main attack. It has healing properties, seen when she is able to purify enemies including phages, and even one of Galaxia's animates.

"Silver Moon Crystal Power Kiss!" → Upgraded version of the previous attack. In the timeline I am grabbing Usagi from, she does not have this ablility quite yet, but it is something that she will eventually inherit.

"Silver Crystal" / "Maboroshi no Ginzuishou" → The main source of Sailormoon's power -- also considered her starseed / sailor crystal / what have you. This is where Sailormoon draws her abilities from, and without it, she is quite literally powerless. It has great potential laying in wait within it, and is often seen as an object of desire or abhorrence among her enemies.

"Flight" → Although not seen often, Sailormoon is actually capable of flight thanks to her Eternal form (and those wings had to be more than just for show!). However, she doesn't use this often, and whether or not she even knows how to control it on her own is a mystery (the Starlights and their princess were the ones that showed her the way).

Writing sample:
It was finally over... Nehelenia, her followers, the sinister eclipse that followed on her heels -- and the hold that they had on the citizens of Tokyo -- was finally beginning to lift. They could return home now -- return to their everday lives without the threat to loom over them, and their dreams, any longer. Of course, this also meant that their time spent with Helios was coming to an end. Usagi looked on as he and Chibiusa spoke, a warmth coming from somewhere deep within her. Somehow, she knew too, that this was far from their last meeting. And watching him dash away on the pure white pegasus he rode truly seemed as though he had come from some sort of fairy tale. There wasn't sadness as he disappeared into the sky -- instead, there was hope.

She looked over her shoulder, greeted by the smiling faces of everyone, offering their words of encouragement and and faith. Everyone... looked so happy. Yes. This was right. This is how it was meant to be.

"It's funny," Mamoru spoke suddenly. "After the battle... I can still feel the heat in my chest. As though a star was born in my heart... Is this -- the power of the Golden Crystal?"

Usagi turned to face him slowly, her expression softening as she heard his words. "Mamo-chan..." her voice was soft, understanding. She lifted a hand to her chest, and tilted her head to the side. "We all have... a star in our hearts."

"A star?"

"Mm," she nodded softly, closed her eyes for a brief pause, then opened them again. "And when you feel that heat in your chest... That's how you know your star is shining." She turned again, glancing over the expressions of her friends that encircled them, and felt her own faith renewed in their purpose, here on this Earth. To protect the ones I love... to make my dreams come true -- and to keep fighting... Usagi thought to herself as she looked up to the sky, The star inside my heart... please keep burning bright. And bring us all the strength to continue on!

Character name: Sailor Tin Nyanko

Character fandom: Sailor Moon

Version: V1

Canon point: Taken from manga-verse, right after she rids Diana of the crescent moon sign on her forehead.
Importing development from old game? No

Background: Here

Personality: Tin Nyanko appears to be a virtually overly cheerful person, always speaking with a tone of endearment, even towards those she doesn't particularly like, which in most cases, is just about everybody. Even with this seemingly cheerful personality on the outside, underneath the fake smiles and cheerful boasting is a real demon, sarcastic and ruthless. It's to say she's determined, and will kill just about anybody who gets in her way if it means she will come out on top, whether you're an ally, a friend, or any enemy, she could very well easily decide to kill you if you stood in her way of fortune.

She's a very sarcastic person! She tends to take advantage of this when speaking with people who are most oblivious to her passive insults, as she takes amusement in insulting people as they remain oblivious to her words. She easily amused, to say the least, always finding humor in any situation. When one tries to talk seriously with Nyanko, she'll make humor out of the situation, either by trying to intimidate the person she's speaking with or simply by making empty jokes.

Again, even with the hilarity she brings with her, the sarcasm and smiles, she's a ruthless creature. When it comes to getting the job done, she'll buckle up and do it right, or at least attempt to. It seems that she's also very touchy on some subjects, making her prone to snapping at any given moment.

In any case, Nyanko is the perfect description of a Class-A villain. Snarky and sarcastic, always ready to jump into action to beat whoever stands in her way to a pulp. She has no morals, making it easy for her to kill whoever stands in her way, and thus, making her more harsh and cold then her team-mates, seeing everybody else as a mere toy.

After all, she is a cat.

Abilities:

-- Nyanko has her Galactica Puppet, which allows her to shoot blasts of electricity of some sort at her enemies.

Writing sample: It wasn't an over exaggeration when one said she couldn't stand being around others.

She preferred to work alone, to not near herself near other people, and why? It wasn't because the feline-like woman feared getting others hurt while working along side her, it wasn't because she was afraid that they would get spun into a web of her own mistakes and suffer the dire consequences with her, it was simply because they irritated her. Such petty people she had to associate herself with, when after all, she was meant for things that were so much more grand. Yet here she was, stuck with a pompous crew that couldn't tell their left from their right.

Even still, she pushed herself towards those people, finding amusement in watching them crumble under the pressure, watching them succumb to divine madness and watching them break. Surely, to suffice this amusement, she'd push them along in the direction they needed to go in, faking a smile and purring out her words with a fabricated adoration, toying with them -- claiming she wanted friendship before yanking it away from their hands as they took their one final breath.

And with all of them gone, she would be on top, just as it was supposed to be.

Voice sample: I hope any one of these threads over at [community profile] dear_mun will suffice! They're virtually long for the most part.

Canon point: Post-Act 38, working at Karaoke Crown as a human.
Importing development from old game? n/a
Background: [Nephrite] [PGSM Summary] [Episode Summaries]

Changes from canon, if AU: n/a

Personality: The phrase "all brawn and no brain" is something that a lot of people would probably apply to Nephrite. He is rude, brash, and loud, and he relies less on tactic and wit and more on brute strength to achieve his goals. Even his plots to find the ginzuishou and the princess are rather simplistic and tend to involve using youma to flush them out. The fact that he is also prone to violent outbursts when agitated or something isn't going his way doesn't likely help the image either. In many ways, he is severely lacking in self-control. His temper, after all, is one of his most poignant traits.

While it doesn't excuse his violence or anger, at his core, Nephrite only wants to be accepted, to please someone, to be shown compassion. From the start, nothing appears to go right for him. He fails constantly, the other Shitennou mock him, and he can't seem to gain Beryl's favor in spite of his dogged efforts. To add insult to injury, he was unable to regain memories of his past life. A deep-rooted insecurity has settled in from a combination of these things. He will hold his head up high and sneer in contempt while he brags about his superiority and ability. In fact, he is an extremely prideful man-- but the arrogance he displays is all an act. Whenever he begins to break, he only knows to lash out and retaliate-- to guard what's left of his bruised ego with violent outbursts. After all, you can't show weakness if you're too busy pummeling someone's face in, right? Yet, left alone, he will be more likely to find a corner and mope in it. The jabs at his worth have taken their tolls and he's not beyond feeling sorry for himself and falling into a depressed state. He will brood, whine, and deprecate himself in the absence of others, having snapped over things like a Senshi taking pity on him and being stuck as a human.

Once - or if - you get past his impetuous traits, Nephrite's loyalty shines. He is berated and spat on and still his loyalty remains. Even without his memories of the past life, he holds his duty and honor as a Shitennou in high regard. While at first this means kissing the ground that Beryl walks on, he later comes to gravitate towards Mamoru's compassion. It's thanks to that aforementioned compassion that he even starts to later function as a normal human being and mellow out. On another note, the kindness shown to him by Dark Mercury and later her healed civilian self makes him obsessed with trying to repay her. A little bit of compassion seems to go a long ways with Nephrite, even if he's terrible at showing it.

Having known nothing outside of the Dark Kingdom, it's no question that he is socially awkward as a human. He has no idea how to function in the real world and struggles constantly with the idea. Even with Motoki, who was kind enough to give him a job (and a shoulder to lean on!), he yells and screams and breaks things out of frustration. ...And as a human, he is also quite clumsy and is often seen tripping and stumbling over things-- yet another source of aggravation for him.

Abilities:
▪ [STRENGTH]; Of the four Shitennou, Nephrite is the one associated with physical strength and he has a lot of it. He's seen lifting someone up over his head and throwing them, for example. As a result, it's no surprise that he's good with and prefers hand-to-hand combat.

▪ [SWORDSMAN]; Like the other generals, he can summon a personal weapon to hand. Nephrite's is a longsword, although he was seen using a buzzsaw-type weapon on Dark Mercury once.

▪ [SPECIAL POWERS]; He is capable of firing off energy blasts, controlling youma, and teleporting (with a dramatic whip of his cape!). Additionally, he seems capable of some basic magic, as all Shitennou seem capable of it-- such as putting people to sleep or sealing doors.

Obviously as a human, he is not capable of these things, but he'll still dream that he is while he's dreaming he's a Shitennou!

Writing sample: (taken from my Obi-Wan Kenobi app for Vatheon!)

One thing was for certain: Obi-Wan had hardly expected to wake up drenched. Both he and Anakin had endured injuries from Dooku, though his Padawan's were far worse than his own. All his own had really required were a visit to a healer in the Temple and sleep... And he had been on his way to do the latter, blacking out almost as soon as he'd stepped foot into his quarters. When he awoke, his senses were ringing out alarms every which way, telling him this was most certainly not the Temple and he was very, very wet. Neither of which made sense to him. His mind jumped to the possibility that someone had attacked him and tried to do away with him. They were on the brink of war-- the Clone Wars. And yet, something about that conclusion didn't feel right. He didn't dismiss the thought, but he fully intended to investigate.

He climbed to his feet, checking his utility belt and tunic first. Most importantly, his lightsaber was still clipped to his belt. Either this was something else entirely or his attacker was very sloppy. After checking his belongings thoroughly, he concluded that nothing was missing, but he did note a small, blue, shimmering creature floating around him.

"Well, hello," he remarked, tilting his head as if that would help him figure out its reason for fluttering about.

It said nothing and when he reached out, it flitted away from his hand quickly... and followed him wherever he went. Odd, but he left it alone. He had far more pressing things to be worrying about.

"Now where in the blazes am I?" he mused aloud, half-hopeful that a voice would spontaneously appear and tell him. No such thing, of course. That would just be too easy. He sighed and carefully scanned his surroundings, picking out the closest person he could find. He pretended to be aimless and lost and-- well, really, he didn't have to pretend much.

"Pardon me. Can you tell me where I am?"

And the native told him-- very cheerfully, in fact. If he weren't already suspicious, Obi-Wan might have found that endearing, given how rude some people could be. "I'm sorry... Vatheon? I've never heard of it. Can you tell me more?" he prompted gently.

"Certainly!" they said with the forever chipper attitude, and went on to explain that he was in an underwater city and about this deity or something called Lamufao (and he'd never heard of that either!) and... that he was evidently stuck here.

While Obi-Wan couldn't help but look alarmed, he kept the frustration out of his face and voice. "Please understand: there is a war going on and I cannot stay here. I am needed elsewhere," he insisted sternly. But then the native did the most curious (and infuriating!) thing. They smiled pleasantly, told him to enjoy his stay and meandered off. "What?" he spat incredulously.

How outrageous! What sort of a place was this? Certainly nothing that could be considered legal by the Republic! He struggled not to let his frustration grab hold of him. There was nothing to shrug off about being in a galaxy-wide war! Oh, this was just ridiculous. Fuming, Obi-Wan weaved through the streets, asking both the same and new questions to as many people as he could, only to keep getting the same answers. By the time it sunk in that he truly wasn't getting out of here, Obi-Wan was exhausted and still angry. Would Anakin be all right without him? He was clever and his heart was always in the right place, but he still worried for his recklessness. Such a trait had no place in war. Then he fumed some more over this feeling of helplessness. No doubt the other Jedi and the Clone Army could handle things, but it hardly felt right not being able to do anything to help them either.

And yet they expected him to enjoy his stay here? Obi-Wan scowled and took a seat on the nearest bench, staring with scrutiny at the building across from him. He was good at making the best of things, but this really was something else entirely.

Character name: Lily Baskerville (Known as Lily Brode in AU)

Character fandom: Pandora Hearts

Version: V2

Canon point: Right after she has the tattoo of the devil burned into the side of her face.

Importing development from old game? No

Background: Here.

Changes from canon, if AU: Lily Baskerville is seen as a bright little girl in canon-verse, filled with smiles and hope for the new day. This Lily is being taken right from the very core of her abuse, right after she was beaten harshly and pulled into the woods, having the sign of the tattoo burned onto her face and leaving her for dead. This Lily, Lily Brode, is nothing like the Lily we know today. Lily is quiet, afraid to touch and feel people, and less willing to see "hope", since all she's been subject to is mindless abuse.

Personality: Lily could be like any other child one would see on the streets. Playing with her friends with a large smile on her face, passing a bouncy ball back and forth with laughter bursting from her lips every few seconds. A child that was happy, as most children are supposed to be, but this isn't the case. Lily is very introverted and quiet, having learned to keep her mouth shut unless she's being spoken to first. Growing up, Lily was told she was the devil, a disgrace, a disgusting, filthy creature of Satan himself that should be dead.

And so, her personality became very withdrawn. When talking to Lily, she'll often shy away, unwilling to speak to anybody in fears they will drop dead as many people have done before, or that they will hit her, beat her and spit on her, accuse her of working devil magic. She's a very scared little girl, and will often flinch away from people when they reach for her. She barely speaks, barely shows any emotion, because she's been taught to act in this way.

It could be said that Lily is very hard to get close to, what with her careful and scared nature, but in all reality, if you show her a smile, she will near close to you. It'll be hard to get her to open up, seeing as though she's learned everybody and everything she touches dies at her fingertips, but once you smile at her, she will smile back, become more willing to touch and feel, and slowly become a happy girl as she should be. Lily has the potential of being like any other child, seeing that she's just at the age of seven years old! It's easy to manipulate her, as well.

If approaching Lily with malice, she will become fearful and try to run, despite the fact that when she ran back in the village she hails from, she will always be caught. She lacks hope, seeing that she's been told she's burning in Hell no matter what, never gaining entrance to Heaven, but still, like any other human being, she doesn't want to be hurt, doesn't want to feel the beating of fists against her skin, so she runs, clinging onto whatever hope she can grasp.

Over all, she's a very broken and sad little girl who simply wants a friend to hold her, tell her she's not cursed, and allow her to smile as she should be allowed to.

Abilities: She can warp the lives of those around her. It's not really an ability, but if one comes in contact with her, they become sickly, and can possibly even die. She has no control over this, however.

Writing sample: It hurt.

Everything hurt -- and it seemed as though the ache itching under her skin would never go away. Slowly, the small child pulled herself through the dirt and rubble that rubbed at her already bruised skin, wincing as the filth entered the open wounds cut into her skin, a gentle cry escaping her pale, chapped lips. It seemed as though it would never stop, the beating of the fists against her skin, the way their words would make her heart clench and ache inside of her chest, the way she would ache for days and days after the beatings, sometimes not even having the time to heal because they'd simply beat her again before she had a chance to mend the wounds on her skin.

Closing her sore eyes, hot tears ran down her equally bruised face, feeling herself tremble as slowly, small hands raised to wrap around her trembling, frail body, soft gasps escaping her lips. It hurt so badly, and she did nothing wrong. She couldn't control the things that happened around her, she would never wish to hurt those people that had unfortunately, fell victim to her curse and dropped in the blink of an eye. She didn't want her precious mommy and daddy to hate her, she didn't want them to yell, scream, call her the devil.

But they did, as well as the rest did.

Her sobs became more erratic now as she clenched her eyes shut, more tears running down her rounded cheeks as she let her body slump forward, tired and sore as she took a deep breath of air, eyes opening slowly to allow more hot clumps of tears fall to the floor beneath her, bloodied from her knees -- the cuts against her skin burning.

It hurt, and it seemed as though it would never stop.

Voice sample: I don't understand why they hate me.

It hurts a lot... they hurt me everyday. My skin feels like it's going to fall right off of me, like I'm going to be bald. Like the kitty I see walking around the village sometimes. Miss Campbell scared the kitty off, though... I don't see her anymore. Miss Campbell hates kitties, and she hates me, too. Everybody hates me, though. I don't understand. I wish they didn't. It hurts a lot when they tell me I'm going to that place.

When they tell me I'm going to Hell.

I don't understand that place. I don't understand where it is. They say it's underneath the ground, but when I tried to dig to see it, I could only find dry dirt. There was no fire, and there was no devil. So how would I get there? Mommy sometimes tells me she already has a grave for me. I don't understand what a grave is, either. She said there isn't a grave close enough to Hell for me.

I don't understand, but I know it's bad.

They sort of told me what it was. They said it was a place where a demon like me was going. A demon is a thing that comes from Hell. When they first said that, I told them I thought I came from mommy and daddy. They said that they don't know what happened, but I was rotten. Just like the things that come from Hell.

I bleed a lot. I didn't know there was so much blood inside of a person. I bleed on the dirt I sleep in. I wake up sticky and red. I can't wash myself because they don't let me go near the lake. I killed my friend there.

I miss her. She was my only friend.

I killed her. It was an accident. I didn't...

[ Her voice starts to crack and she leans over , her eyes wide as tears star to gush . ]

I miss her.
She smiled.

Character name: Reno
Character fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Version: V1
Canon point: Taken from during the Turk's vacation to Wutai in FFVII, just prior to Elena being kidnapped. -Considering that Wutai is an optional town/quest in game the assumption is made that it is done at the earliest possible time which is right after completing Rocket Town.

Importing development from old game? Nope
Background:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reno_(Final_Fantasy_VII)#Reno
http://valiantknife.org/reno/
-One of my favorite sites, and a pretty good analysis of Reno's personality.

Personality:
Reno's attitude in general is quite laid back and rather sure of himself, almost cocky, and in most interactions with the other characters he doesn't get terribly over emotional about anything unless it's truly important. In the middle of an emergency, he will keep his head and focus on what needs to be done, and do his best to do it, at the risk of injury to himself despite his motto "A pro doesn't sacrifice himself for the job." (But, you know, that's just because he actually cares.) He has a sarcastic wit and evil sense of humor that can be quite morbid, often joking with his co-workers or mocking his enemies in the middle of battle.

Even with his hidden willingness to risk injury and death, he does have a strong survival instinct and will try to get out of a situation or complete his mission without casualties. Here, he differs with one of the Turk's motto: to complete the mission any way possible- or rather he interprets this to mean completing the mission even if he has to retreat in order to fight another day. Preferably coming back with reinforcements.

Internally, he can be far less sure of himself and what he is doing than he seems when the job takes things to the far extreme. At times, he can even be a touch mercurial or temperamental with his subordinates if they display weakness, most likely because he may not be entirely sure himself. Such times are rare, and for the most part, he relies on his experiences. Despite his liking people to think the opposite, he is far from infallible and can be defeated- those defeats weigh on him at times and are a major source of self doubt.

Causing him to lose his temper is difficult, but not impossible. Like everyone, he has his own buttons to be pushed, though few and far between. His relationship with his employers and his co-workers is one such button, as is his own abilities. Keep pushing his buttons, attacking him, and one can see how he loses patience and return in like with a vengeance, even merciless.

Sometimes, he will act almost disdainful and a touch sarcastic, and often as if he has better things to do than talk with someone else. One reason for this is efficiency; if he is focused on something else he may indeed have something better to do and in that case can act this way to people he knows. Another is because interacting with the other person may be more important than he wants to let on. A third reason is interaction with a person who is neither friend, enemy, companion or someone he just dislikes. As an example, he will get like this when AVALANCHE is interfering with his work, or is having to deal with someone on the Shin-Ra board whom he does not entirely like or trust.

Pleasure and business are two separate things to him, though he may frequently find that either will clash with the other. Duty may call him on his off hours, and find him relaxing and unwilling to go back to work until he is officially on the clock again. Likewise, his laid back attitude about work quickly changes when he does go on the clock, throwing himself into his work- he does enjoy his job, particularly the challenges. He may even be a touch sadistic as he has no initial problem killing on orders or destroying entire buildings, though after all is said and done he still has to live with it.

To those who are not friend, co-worker or employer, but are merely companions, he can be civil, even almost friendly with a touch of his usual sarcastic, nonchalant mood, and if he is particularly bored may even tease or prank them. These are people he does not know, nor quite trust, but recognize them as at least not an enemy (for now). The civility and friendliness will increase as he gets to know them and perhaps even trust him, though the true friend side of him is less shown as trusting strangers does not come easily for him, and is necessary for what he is. When trust is earned, so too comes loyalty.

Whatever else can be said about Reno and his attitude is that, at his heart, he is extremely loyal to those he trusts and considers a friend. As a turk, he would be useless without loyalty as he is entrusted with secrets on a routine basis, and he would be dead many times over without the loyalty and trust seen between the Turks. To earn such from him without being another Turk, is a challenge- a real betrayal would permanently end it.

Abilities:

  • Reno is a normal (albeit highly trained) human from his world (Gaia), which may differ somewhat from real life standards, because physically able people seem to be able to jump 30 feet without any help and land without injury...

  • Reno is quick in motion- it is mentioned in canon that he is the fastest of the Turks.

  • He is adept at piloting helicopters, and by implication airplanes.

  • Reno is highly trained in martial arts, use of an Electro-Mag Rod, and magical ability.

Writing sample:

Blinking, the turk peered through the binoculars at the scene below him from his nest amongst the trees of the jungle. It was a clever place, he thought. The terrorists were walking back and forth, unloading a truck of goods newly hijacked, but that wasn't what held Reno's attention.

It was the small form tied up in the back of the truck that did. Reno blamed himself for the girl's kidnapping- it had been a stupid mistake someone like him shouldn't have made, especially not when it concerned a rookie. Well, that was why he was here.

He picked up his radio, setting the binoculars aside for the moment. "Reno, here. I've got them in my sights, chief."

There was a brief burst of static. "Good work. Can you tell how many?"

"Just a few dozen. I shouldn't have much trouble gettin' rid of them." Reno wasn't exaggerating. In fact, he kind of prided himself on disposing of a small army by himself last week. Sure, he had been exhausted and ready for a hospital room when it was over, but that's what you get for messing with him. A slight smirk escaped his lips at the thought, and grew wider as he imagined just how he'd take care of the guy that had backhanded Elena when they caught her. She was safe, for now, but he didn't trust these goons to keep their mitts off of her for too much longer.

I'm not sure if he's v1 or v1.1 since he's so far pre-canon

Canon point: Precanon
Importing development from old game? No
Background: (his wiki page is JUST his picture...)

Half-elven Prince Falkieri Artfel Phelan was born to the King (human) and Queen (elven) of Lyonya. Because he is half-elven, he can decide whether to look more human or more elven when he comes of age. From birth, though, he looked more like his human father. This wasn't a problem for their people, who are human and elven and the elven taig-sense is needed for their ruler, as Falkieri was betrothed to a full-blooded elf. So even if he couldn't use his taig-sense, his wife and children would be able to. (The taig-sense lets elves sense each other, natural things, and the Taig, the tree of life.)

He and his mother were out riding one day. She was killed and it was thought that Falkieri perished with her. His father was killed after and his human sister was given to a regent lord. Lyonya was thrown into trouble because of this and the Elves and Humans started to distrust each other.

Falkieri was taken far away by priests of Liart and given to Baron Sekkady. Liart, who reigns over torture, and the Webmistress, who ever spins lies, were determined to see Lyonya fall into their hands and all of its people. Baron Sekkandy told Falkieri that his name was Kieri Artfiel Phelan and called him Artfiel.

Baron Sekkady was a cruel master and Kieri doesn't go into great detail about those years he was enslaved to him. He tells us: "What did he do? What did he not do, that an evil and cruel man could think of! Imagine your small sons, my lords, in the hands of such a man - hungry, tired, beaten daily, and worse than beaten." It's stated at another point in the book that Baron Sekkady sexually abused Kieri and rented him out to guests. Kieri used to be put on display for guests and the day came when one recognized the lost prince. Baron Sekkady was a wizard and he put silence on that visitor. He was able to make them silent and motionless and he dragged that unfortunate guest off to the dungeons to be tormented.

But that guest had power of his own and made Kieri leave. Kieri had tried to escape before this time and had been so badly punished for it that he lost hope of ever escaping and simply started hoping for death. Still, somehow this unnamed visitor took away Kieri's fears and sent him off to escape. He slipped out the window and ran until he came to the coast. He stowed away on a ship and made his way inland back to Lyonya, not out of memory but simply running away and working his way further inland over the course of half a year.

His dreams will happen while he's on the road and working his way inland.

Character name: Cosmos
Character fandom: Dissidia Final Fantasy & Dissidia Duodecim
Version: v1
Canon point: Just prior to being incinerated by Chaos
Importing development from old game? no
Background: My place is here. And here I shall remain.

Changes from canon, if AU: n/a

Personality: To understand Cosmos, one must understand what she is and what she was created for. Only then does the true depth of who she is manifests itself. She is a "perfect" manikin. Unlike the ones that plague World B, she is a fully realized as a clone of Cid of the Lufaine's wife (whose name is never provided). Upon her creation, she was implanted with the memories of Cid's wife and tasked with quelling the child-weapon Chaos so that he would obey the orders of the military which developed both of them. Circumstances led her to be sealed away in World B along with Cid and Chaos, and deified. Her task of calming the destructive forces of Chaos remains and keeping the world whole uses the majority of her divine powers and energy.

Hers is described as a "soothing presence" and it's no surprise given her role as the maintainer of harmony and calming the beast Chaos. Even those admit to questioning "what kind of person would drag people into a war?" find themselves drawn to her and opening up. She is the embodiment of peace and harmony, which is a sharp contrast to the role she plays in calling soldiers to fight on her behalf in a never ending cycle of war.

More than once, summoned warriors have called her cold or unfeeling, and while this is not true of her, she is remarkably calm and seemingly detached at all times. Part of this is the result of the considerable amount of energy she radiates to keep the world whole, part of it is from her only being a copy of a woman. Many of her memories are not her own, but those implanted within her by scientists, and she only carries that woman's memories and not her feelings. However, this does lead Cosmos to say that she treasures each and every memory, good and bad, which is created within the cycles- presumably because they are her own memories and not those of another.

To say she is unfeeling would be unfair. It grieves her immensely to watch her chosen warriors fight and fall and rise again only to face eventual slaughter. Over and over she witnessed their struggles, their hopes, their dreams, and then their demises. Yet she cares so deeply for them that she eventually sacrifices herself to free them from the cycle, expressing regret that she should have found this resolve sooner. She is not unaware of her role within the cycle, and while she takes steps to ensure a true end at the cost of her own existence, she admits that to be a Goddess of Harmony is to be an Angel of Death. The fate of her warriors is tied to her own and this burden weighs on her heavily. So much so that one asks if she'll finally crack a smile once the conflict is over. It's obvious to even the most clueless that she finds no levity or joy in her role within the cycle of war.

More than one person has expressed that she was cruel, knowing the truth about the cycles, yet not telling them. Rather, she allowed them to go on dreaming and hoping for home. This is not entirely incorrect. While not deliberately malicious, there is a touch of cruelty allowing people to foster hope and faith. Yet, these qualities are the very ones that eventually provide the warriors the necessary tools to free themselves from the eternal conflict, by giving them shards of her own power that would eventually be tempered by passion and devotion and coalesce into a crystal. Even so, Cosmos most often keeps her own counsel and does not reveal what she knows to be true. It is in its own way, her protecting her chosen, and at the same time ensuring that they do not quit the battle before it is ended. Despite her being tight-lipped with the ultimate truth, she oft plays the role of encouraging support, coming along the warriors with encouragement and direction should they stray from their path. She does not hesitate to tell one when they are in the wrong, especially when it puts others in the path of danger, but it is never viciously put or expressed in anger.

In summary, she is harmony, neutrality, balance in its purest form.
Abilities:
- First and foremost, Cosmos radiates serenity, quelling the destructive nature of Chaos. It is its own power, as it keeps the world whole and from crumbling to nothing.

- That power can be used to eradicate manikins or other foes, although to do so, she must divert her powers from keeping the world whole, thereby jeopardizing the fabric of reality.

- She can sense the spirits of her chosen warriors at all times, although it is a back of the mind sensation for her, unless one of them is snuffed or gravely harmed.

- She can hear the remote prayers of others, even those who are not her chosen.

- She has the power to summon warriors from their own worlds into World B to fight for her cause. Presumably, she is aware of them and their suitability to her cause even from a different world.

- Some of her powers of sustaining the world can be diverted into a healing/rest for the weary.

- She can bestow a portion of her power into any of her chosen warriors, although it greatly weakens her to do so.

- She is capable of teleporting to anyone, anywhere, though most often she summons warriors to herself, rather than going to them.

Writing sample:
One would never guess that this was the calm before the storm.

This Sanctuary, this bastion of peace and serenity, was poised to become the stage for a final battle. Yet somehow, for the moment, it appeared no different than it had always been. This was seat of Cosmos’ power, where she reigned enthroned as a Goddess of Harmony. Unlike the world without, there was no sign of decay or death. For even for life to be sustained there is an element of death as blades of grass fade and give way to fresh growth. Natural, yet unsuitable so very close to the deity who maintained the world itself.

The clear waters of the Sanctuary floor shimmered undisturbed, while streams of light arced through the air, nearly touching the drifting clouds, through which sunlight broke through. Standing at the ready was her Warrior, the last line of defense, her protector so like her in his creation. Cosmos lifted her eyes to look at him and took note of the resolve etched on his face. He would stand and stand alone and for yet another cycle, he would fall. This was his plan. His and Kain’s: to save a force for the next cycle and thus win the warriors of harmony the chance to end the conflict. They would give themselves for her cause and she… she would be forced to sit and watch, to endure more losses.

It occurred to her then that she should have done more to put an end to this ongoing conflict, that she should have enacted her own plans sooner, taken a more active role in stopping this nightmare. This battle, these losses, they were not what she wished for any of them. The grief and disappointment in herself was nearly crippling. And yet, she had tried to take a new path, seek out a new resolution. Had the manikins not been unleashed on this world, perhaps the seeds of hope-fragments of her own power- she had planted within her warriors would have come to fruition. But this round had been yielded already.

The end had come and Cosmos recognized it. There was the familiar shock as one by one her chosen fell before their opponents, on the far side of the world. One by one they were being snuffed out, to be forever removed, just as her Warrior would be soon. Soon… unless she chose another way, a less passive way.

“They have come.”

At the sound of his voice, Cosmos looked up. Indeed, there was a force enough to exterminate the world one hundred times over, spread out across the Sanctuary in an unmoving, unemotional line. These manikins had no purpose nor will, save to kill or be killed.

She was not like these. Nor was he. But could will alone be enough to stop the slaughter that was to come?

Background: Story of the Planet's Greatest Pilot.

Changes from canon, if AU: N/A

Personality:
Gruff and curmudgeonly, Cid Highwind seems years older than his actual age of thirty five. His attitude falls in the range of 'rude and crude', and Cid has no filter, as he's well known for his foul mouth and cursing streaks.

Despite this outside appearance, Cid isn't a cruel man. He does have quite a bit of anger, most of which is directed to several different sources, but the fact remains the same - losing out on his dream of being the first human in space changed who he was.

One who has not handled the disappointment of the failed launch in a healthy way, Cid does tend to take out his anger on Shera. However, though the launch failure was technically her fault, it was still Cid's choice to stop it in time to keep from killing her. It was a split second decision made in the heat of the moment, which shows just where his priorities truly lie. However, his bitterness is still very much a part of him, though it has seemed to ease in the time between meeting up with AVALANCHE and the end of Advent Children.

Cid is prone to using insults, but it's more of a spontaneous verbal vomit than a planned hateful statement. Curses do pepper his typical conversation without a second thought, and though he doesn't mean to offend it ends up happening sometimes. He'll quickly shrug it off and move on to the next topic - Cid isn't known for his sensitivity. He's always been a little unpolished in his interactions with people, but he's straight forward and blunt. Two admirable qualities rarely found in a world run by a corrupt government.

Above all else, when it comes to mechanics and working with his hands, Cid is very intelligent. He's also determined (crossing over the line to 'stubborn'), and once he's developed a grudge it's a long time before he's able to get past it. (Unless you're part of Shinra - he'll probably never get over that grudge).

Cid Highwind also has the makings of a good leader. His no nonsense approach to problems is extremely useful (especially in a world where nonsense is pretty much the norm). He isn't one to try to take over any leadership position if someone's already there - he's more than happy to chill in his corner unless he's needed. Cid will step up when the occasion calls for it, and when he does he gets stuff done. He thinks quick on his feet, and is directing a fleet of airships by the time DoC rolls around.

Deep down, he is a kind hearted person. It's hard to see, with the anger and the glaring and the grudges that last for years, but it's there. He doesn't like what's happening to the Planet, even if it's something he never really thought about much before he hooked up with AVALANCHE. He decides to help them, without reward or promise of anything in return. He starts to view the Planet as a 'sick kid', and grows determined to help AVALANCHE stop Sephiroth.

With a short fuse, a (secretly hidden) big heart, and a good head on his shoulders, Cid Highwind isn't exactly the most complicated of people. He is a good friend to have, especially in a pinch, and will go to any length to give someone a hand.

PS: Cid ♥'s tea.

Abilities:

-->Cid fights with spears and lances - at this point, he's usually equipped with his ultimate weapon Venus Gospel, which amplifies his attacks based on how much MP he has at the time. He's also able to wield guns, but seems to prefer his lances/spears.

-->Most of his bigger attacks (Limit Breaks) tend to hit multiple enemies at once.

-->His strength is average for a man of his height and build. Working with engines and his hands means his arm strength might be pretty good, but his stamina is crap on account of his cigarette habit. So, he won't be running marathons anytime soon, but he can hold his own in a fair fight.

Writing sample:

It's with irritation that he practically shoves the stick into the fire, the poor twig bending with the force he puts behind the motion. All he wanted was some peace and quiet. Preferably in his workshop. Alone.

In a more reasonable state of mind, Cid is aware that it was completely his choice to hop on AVALANCHE's (seemingly self destructive) train. In this mood, though, it's hard to remember that teeny little detail. What used to be a perfectly legitimate excuse to join up with this particular band of misfits has warped in his mind. Now he's the victim, lead forcefully into whatever arbitrary mission these kids decided on.

Cid steals a quick glance around their camp, mentally correcting himself. Not everyone there is a kid - Barret and Vincent definitely weren't, even if they look just as out of place as he felt sometimes. What the hell was he thinking, running off like that? He had a lot of shit on his plate, and the future of the group isn't looking too bright in his eyes.

"Hey, old man." It's Yuffie who interrupts his angry musing, plopping herself down beside him on the convenient log he'd claimed as his own. Not that something like ownership meant diddly to Yuffie. Cid grunts at her in greeting, and she holds something out to him.

Leery, he leans over to get a better look at what she's offering him. It seems to be two harmless strips of beef, dried and ready to eat. He knows better than to take her at face value, though, and he leans back, giving Yuffie a wary look.

"What do you want, kid?"

"Nothing! Jeez, every one's so suspicious."

"Uh huh. Probably 'cause you give nothin' up for free."

"Call it a mood," she shrugs, gesturing at him with the beef a little violently. He takes it, less hesitant when he sees Barret with his own handful of the beef.

"Maybe you're just sick," is his way of thanking her.

"Maybe I got tired of looking at your angry, dopey face," is her way of saying 'you're welcome'.

Smirking, Cid takes a bite out of the meat, feeling marginally better than a few minutes before.

Background:

The Magician
The Thief
The Series

Changes from canon, if AU: n/a

Personality:

Kaito is a magician. He is, first and foremost, a show man. He's been learning and practicing the art of stage magic since he was very little as his father was a world renown magician and, in Kaito's book, the best in the world. Sadly, Kaito loses his father at an early age due to a stage 'accident.' Despite this, however, Kaito continued on learning all the elements his father taught him including the art of disguise, basics of card tricks, preparation for an impromptu trick and perhaps the most important part of being a magician- Poker face. It is by far the part Kaito struggles with the most.

It is a common misconception that Kaito has mastered every element his father had taught him and 'poker face' or hiding your true emotions and feelings the one skill most people seem to think he's best at. This is not true. Kaito is good at hiding his true feelings, yes. He is by no means perfect. He slips up on occasion and can be a complete spazz when things don't go according to his plan. Over time he's gotten better and better but he still has a long way to go.

Kaito loves magic. He loves performing and he loves the look of wonder and awe on his audience's face. Because of his desire to perform and force reactions from others it's pretty obvious he's a show off. He would be constantly in trouble in school as he loves to play pranks on other students and is a general disruption to the class-but it seems as though his teacher has given up on punishing him as all she does is sigh and face-palm at his antics when she can't catch him on not paying attention to the lesson.

One of the most common things he does to disrupt his class is flip the girl that sits next to him, and his childhood friend's skirt. He's a bit of a pervert and has been caught peeping in on girls and freely admitted to picking the lock on the girl's locker room--stating that they shouldn't have used such a flimsy lock to keep him out.

Kaito's biggest weakness is without a doubt his EXTREME case of ichthyophobia. It is so bad that he cannot even stand the shape or design of a fish. He will not eat it, he will not touch it and he will not go near it if he can help it. However, if someone's life is in danger-particularly that childhood friend he's in love with, he will ignore the fear to the best of his ability so that he can play hero. He very likely owes his composure to poker face.

As the magician he is possibly one of the most childish people you could ever meet and his best friend and love interest only accents this part of his personality as the two are constantly bickering and calling each other stupid. Don't let the outer appearance fool you, they are extremely close and she is the most important person in Kaito's life. He is highly protective of her and would do anything for her. Of course, if anyone were to point this out, he'd deny it and probably make some kind of comment about Aoko's figure-or lack thereof.

Because of his tendency to show off and childishness he's a very social guy and can blend and mix with society much better than the other geniuses in the series. He can easily make friends and tone down his intelligence so that he can have a decent conversation with others and avoid making them feel stupid and driving them away. Teenagers in high school don't generally handle genius, quiet types, after all.

Kaito can generally get along with just about anyone but there is one person he openly does not like. Despite it being a very popular pairing amongst the fandom, Kaito cannot stand the detective Hakuba Saguru for a multitude of reasons. Perhaps the biggest being that Hakuba seems to have a romantic interest in Kaito's childhood friend. Another contributing factor would most likely be that Hakuba likes to not-so-subtly imply that Kaito is the infamous thief known to the public as Kaitou 1412 or more commonly- The Kaitou Kid.

Kaito is the infamous thief known to the public as Kaitou Kid. However, most people would never make the connection as the Kid is enigmatic and calm and collected like any famous thief that turns heists into free entertainment should be. He has a smirk that can un-nerve hundreds of police officers and Kaito, while he is the biggest trouble maker in school is no where near calm and collected like his alter ego. Kid is a daring and elusive criminal master mind that always announces what he intends to steal and when he intends to steal it-sometimes, when he feels like it, he'll write a cryptic message in his heist notice and secretly laugh when the police have trouble figuring it out. And he always returns what he steals.

Kid employs the use of stage magic in all his heists to keep his adoring fans guessing. Yes, he has fans. Hundreds-possibly thousands of them. No performer, after all, would be complete without his audience. And, he is very protective of his fans. However, he is also protective of the task force designed to catch him and the detectives that are generally annoyed by him. Even though he's a world famous thief he still has morals and does his absolute best to ensure no one gets hurt at a heist. When this does happen, however, he feels personally responsible for not finding a way to prevent it. He has a habit of helping the police catch much worse criminals than himself and seems to offer a hand when ever he can as both thief and teenage boy.

The reason why this teenage boy became a jewel thief is because at some point while he was sixteen or freshly seventeen he came across his Dad's biggest secret- that secret being that Daddy-dearest was secretly the original Kaitou Kid and had left a tape to play for Kaito when one day he inevitably ran across the room hidden behind a portrait. Unfortunately, the tape was old and had rotted so the explanation for why his father was a thief was lost on the poor boy. Shortly after he met up with his dad's old friend who revealed to him that his dad had not died in an accident but instead had been murdered. Anger over his father's death restored, Kaito vows to find the ones responsible and learn why his dad had to die-something he did accomplish, only to get thrown into a deeper mystery as the murderers were looking for a gem stone- a magic gemstone that glows red under the moonlight and cries tears when a certain comment passes to make the drinker immortal.

Kaito only wants to find the gem before the bad guys and destroy it once and for all to avenge his father, the late magician.

Abilities:

Honestly there really isn't a whole lot he can't do. He is on an expert level with his stage magic. In fact, he is so good at deceiving the eyes that anyone who didn't know any better might mistake his practiced hand for real magic. To help him with his theatrics he can mimic any voice he hears and disguise as anyone of his choosing flawlessly. As the thief Kaitou Kid, he is known as a master of disguise. It is not impossible to figure out who he's disguised as but Kaito is very observant and does not usually make mistakes when it comes to disguises- he's even started using plastic resin for his masks because it feels more like real skin than normal latex.

He is a perfectionist. He calculates everything and makes sure to always have several back up plans incase something goes wrong. He very likely contemplates his heists and then goes over every little detail that could possibly be his downfall and stays several steps ahead of everyone. Preparation is one of the most important part of being a magician and Kaito ensures beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is prepared for everything.

Obviously, Kaito is intelligent. As it stands, only one person has ever gotten the better of Kaito and that one person is the shrunken detective whose series he frequently guest stars on. However, anytime Conan manages to outsmart the thief, he is prepared for it and manages another means of a escape. He is a thief, after all, and very good at thinking on his feet to avoid capture.

Kaito also seems to have mastered the art of luck so that it really does seem more like a skill. And, while luck is most definitely on his side he actually does not rely on it as much as most the fandom seems to think. Yes, it was luck, and only luck alone that Kaito avoided a fatal shot to the heart by placing the jewel he'd stolen in his left breast pocket. However, as I have stated before, he is a perfectionist and generally prepared for anything.

Along with these things he has an unmistakable knack for art and forgeries, lock picking, along with killer acrobatic skills that he has most definitely inherited from his mother, and impeccable hearing. All things that contribute to making him into the beloved and elusive thief Kaitou Kid.

Writing sample:

Kaito leaned up against the doorframe as he peaked over to get a good look at what was going on in the next room. He shifted his grip on the unconscious girl in his arms and pondered all possible escape routes. He could get himself out of this easy. The problem was that he didn't want to leave the girl currently snoozing away anywhere they could possibly get her. He absolutely had to get her out first.

He took a calming breath to reassess the situation and glanced around the hall. There was a small window just across from him that he could maybe squeeze through but he wasn't sure that he could get them both out, and he wasn't about to shove her out a three story window. He glanced to the other side of the hall, the stair case in view. His best bet was to sneak down the remaining flights of stairs and carry her out the front door. Stupid girl, getting involved like this. He swallowed hard as he heard footsteps coming closer to his doorframe and held his breath up until the moment the person turned and walked the other way. He glanced into the room again, cursing the number of blind spots as he tried to see if everyone one was distracted enough he could slip right by the door.

The thief shifted again to gently set the girl down on her feet, keeping her in his arms so she wouldn't fall and gripped his card gun before firing at the fire alarm. It immediately came to life and started blaring emergencies. Kaito picked the girl up once more and pressed himself up against the wall as much as possible. He wasn't in kid guise but he knew better than to try hiding in plain sight with these guys. the men piled out of the room and luckily didn't spare him a glance as they went to check on the alarm and security cameras. That meant he had roughly five minutes to get himself and the sleeping girl out of the museum and to safety. He could do it. He hoped.

Character name: Conan Edogawa (Shinichi Kudo)
Character fandom: Detective Conan
Version: v1
Canon point: after chapter 812
Importing development from old game? No.
Background:
Conan
Shinichi

Changes from canon, if AU: None

Personality:

The first thing anyone notices about Conan is his intelligence. He knows and understands far too much, even for his true age. Ask him about practically any topic and he can ramble about it knowledgeably. As the seven -year-old he appears to be he attempts to conceal the full extent of his knowledge and deduction skill, but he has never been very successful at this. He tries to appear like an ordinary child, but he doesn't really have clue what normal is.

He is brilliantly intelligent, cool-headed, independent, logical, and acerbic. And hopelessly in love with his childhood friend Ran. His ability for deductive logic, immense knowledge, and analytical ability make him an amazing detective. He is hardly ever wrong, once he has figured a case out. Even cases that have been labeled unsolvable.

But at the same times, his genius has created problems for him. He is completely unable to resist a mystery. If he finds one, his curiosity will not let him rest until he finds an answer. When in the middle of an investigation he often forgets the danger of hunting suspects in a child's body. He can deduct motives and solve impossibly complicated riddles, but he doesn't really understand people on a personal level. He didn't understand his own feelings for Ran until it was too late to tell her anything, and he has repeatedly missed obvious hints from others about their feelings for him. He can also be very forgetful about his personal life. He never remembers his own birthday, for example. He also has trouble relating to his peers. Even before his shrinking, he was almost completely isolated from his classmates, apart from Ran. He is most comfortable when dealing with adults at a professional level.

Whatever name you call him by, he has always had a habit of putting on different personalities to get the results he wants. Shinichi's core personality is a bored and irritable boy. He finds most of the typical occupations of his peers uninteresting and constantly runs a sarcastic commentary on the people around him. Only a few things can snap him out of this. Any mention of Sherlock Holmes will instantly turn him into an enthusiastic boy who can ramble on for hours. And the appearance of a mystery of any kind will instantly bring out his razor sharp focus. Once he is on the hunt to solve a mystery he is almost impossible to distract. He is a huge fan of soccer, and admits to a fondness for cheesecake. And there is Ran, of course. His most important person.

Even when he was still Shinichi, he admitted to deliberately putting on a mature and serious attitude so that the police would listen to him. As Conan now he often puts on an act of sugary enthusiasm for the benefit of adults. Especially when at a murder scene and drawing attention to vital clues. He is probably truest to his own personality among his classmates in first grade and among th few people who know his secret. But even with them he is secretive.

Currently Conan has only two goals in his life. First, to reclaim his old life and to finally confess his feelings to Ran. To do this he needs to find an antidote for the poison that turned him into a child and he needs to bring an end to the Black Organization. Secondly, he has the goal of finding the truth behind every crime he stumbles across.

He believes in justice. If finding the truth involves bending or breaking the law, he will do that without a seconds regret. He also believes that there is nothing that justifies the taking of a life, even if it is a murderer's life. Once he told a fellow high school detective that cornering someone with logic and allowing them to commit suicide was the same as committing murder themselves.

He has the worst luck in the world when it comes to stumbling across cases. He can't go anywhere without dead bodies turning up somewhere. Amusement parks, the mall, bus-rides, the beach, parties, restaurants, even if he is just walking down the street. If there is a crime happening anywhere in the area, he will be there. If there is a way for a person to die, he has probably seen it before. And no matter how horrific the scene, he is never phased. He sees bodies as evidence. Nothing more.

His forced second childhood has turned him into a kind of deadpan snarker. He is never shy about making acerbic observations about the people around him, though most of those comments never leave his head. Particularly if they're getting off track in a murder investigation. Additionally, his act as a child has made him more than a little manipulative. He is entirely capable of leading adults through an entire investigation without ever letting them know what was really happening. If they still don't get it, he will resort to drugging them and using them as living puppets.

He idolizes Sherlock Holmes, and has deliberately modeled himself after the detective. And he is a natural skeptic when it comes to ghosts, monsters, and magic. He has repeatedly run into murderers attempting to disguise their crimes as the works of ghosts or local monster stories. Upon meeting any people with such special powers here, he is likely to immediately assume it is a hoax to cover up for another crime.

Shinichi has a habit of taking everything on himself. He tends to be very closemouthed about the things that are really bothering him and will never ask for help even if he needs it. He often forgets just how physically vulnerable he is right now, especially when he gets caught up in the chase. He is terrified of the Black Organization ever discovering that Shinichi Kudo is still alive. But he is most terrified that Ran will get hurt. If it means that she won't get involved he is willing to lie directly to his best friend. Even if it means she will hate him if she ever finds out.

He hates lying, and he hates being in this situation where his whole lie is a lie. But even more, he hates what he has done to Ran. He has to sit and watch Ran getting upset and worried about Shinichi's disappearance, when all he has to offer her is an occasional phonecall through a voice changer.

Abilities:

He's a detective. One of, if not the, best in his canon. Basically this means that he has incredible skills of observation, is good at reading criminal's intentions and is capable of putting together pieces of seemingly unrelated information to figure out the method and reasoning behind elaborate crimes. Conan has vast amounts of information memorized on hundreds of different topics. Most of them relating to solving murders. He has also shown other skills such as piloting aircraft, advanced marksmanship, knowledge of poisons and the human body and solving riddles and codes.

Conan always carries a number of disguised tools and gadgets, which he uses to make up for the weakness of his child's body. His most offensive weapons are his wristwatch and his shoes. His shoes are specially designed to temporarily increase his kicking power. Using them, he can knock criminals unconscious from hundreds of feet away. And has occasionally dented metal using a soccer ball. His wristwatch has a concealed sedative dart launcher.

His glasses have secondary uses as night vision goggles and as a homing device tracker. Conan's bowtie is a voice changer, and his belt buckle conceals an soccerball inflater and launcher.

The only really unusual ability he has isn't so much an ability as it is a condition. A year ago he was poisoned by an experimental drug called APTX4869. It was supposed to kill him, but instead he shrank to the size of a first grader. As of now, there is no permanent cure although he has used some temporary cures to return to his true age for a few hours.

Writing sample:

If there was one thing his unwilling trip back to first grade had taught Conan, it was how to survive boredom. It had been hard enough making it through the tedium of school the first time, when he had truly been a child. Now?

He was seventeen years old, and learning about the exciting worlds of long division and finger-painting. Boredom was an understatement. His only entertainment at this point was calculating how many questions he still needed to miss to keep his grades from being suspiciously high.

He scowls down at the art project of the day and almost imagines he can feel his brain starting to atrophy from disuse. Silently he wishes for a mystery to turn up. Any kind of mystery. As long as it wasn't another murder. He'd even accept a notice from that useless thief. At least some of those riddles had stumped him for a brief moment.

"My, my," Haibara comments from her seat next to him. "Is the great detective having problems? No new puzzle taking up space in that brain of yours?"

Conan favors the other shrunken adult with an unimpressed scowl.

"Idiot," he drawls in a bored fashion. "You're just the same as me. I suppose I'll just have to find something to investigate." About to continue, he is interrupted by one of the real seven-year-olds in the class.

"Conan," Mitsuhiko growls, "You were thinking of going off by yourself again. You're always doing that!"

"Yeah," Ayumi chimes in. "We're the detective boys! Its no fair if you find a mystery by yourself!"

Conan freezes and laughs nervously at the three children glaring at him. "Ahaha, of course I wasn't planning on going off by myself."

And of course that doesn't work as the three children keep glaring at him suspiciously. And he is certain Haibara is laughing at him. He could definitely see her twisted sense of humor in this.

"Good!" Ayumi claims. "Because Mitsuhiko found another haunted house! And we're going to investigate it after school. You'll come too, won't you Conan?"

Looking between the subtly amused Haibara and the two boys who seemed determined to drag him to the haunted house if he dared to say no to Ayumi, Conan wonders when this had become his life.

Voice sample:

In which Conan briefly turns back to his true age and does some damage control.

In which Conan finds trouble. Again. The best friend isn't amused.

Character name: Saguru Hakuba
Character fandom: Detective Conan | Magic Kaito
Version: [v2]
Canon point: Following 'Episode 0' of Magic Kaito and chapter 733 of Detective Conan
Importing development from old game? Nope.
Background: The White Knight

Changes from canon, if AU: Well first and foremost, the name isn't Saguru Hakuba anymore, it's Alice Hakuba. Alice is, obviously, a girl. That's the biggest difference between this version and canon. Alice's mother's side of the family came from money and Alice's mom was the sort of socialite mother who's so busy throwing parties that half the time she forgets she has a kid. As a result, Alice was primarily raised by her grandam, who taught her all about how to be a lady. Well, that and a few other helpful little things...

When her grandam died she moved to Japan with her dad and soon befriended Aoko Nakamori. Though her father wouldn't permit her to observe the police force under his jurisdiction, Aoko learned of Alice's interest and spoke to her father and convinced him to let Alice be present at Kid heists, which were generally acknowledged as totally nonviolent anyway.

While this Kid certainly didn't enjoy being chased by a stubborn detective anymore than the canon one, he was still a teenage boy and took to teasing Alice on heists, often returning the stolen items by placing them on her person, particularly if they were some sort of jewelry. When Alice received the piece of Kid's DNA after one heist and managed to track the results down to Kaito from her class, rather than confront Kaito about it she kept the information to herself, though this did prompt her to spend more time with Kaito as a way of observing and keeping an eye on him.

Like Saguru, she's been traveling off and on in between Europe and Japan for various reasons, but unlike her male counterpart, she's kept herself solidly involved in each heist, if only for the reason that with her around the task force always knew where to find the stolen item after Kid was done with it.

Due to her close relationship with Aoko, however, and Aoko's own with Kaito, as well as Alice's suspicions that Kaito is Kid, Alice is no longer actively trying to catch Kid. She's a little bit more concerned with the figures in black lurking on distant rooftops with sniper rifles during Kid heists now. And, perhaps, "accidentally" tripping up Conan whenever they happen to coincide on Kid heists.

Personality: At first glance Alice is a very neat and meticulous individual. Her dress is immaculate, her words and actions precise, and she values punctuality to an almost unholy degree. She finds emotions and human interaction messy and unreliable (though she is well versed in ettiquette and can quite easily maintain a polite conversation), perhaps due to her early introduction to the darker side of the human experience (she has, in time, been exposed to so many murders that her pet hawk Watson will recognize and immediately be drawn to the scent of human blood). As a result, she finds people and their motivations difficult to understand.

When she is first introduced in Magic Kaito she has a habit of asking the criminals he catches "Why do you do it?" Where other detectives in the series will use motive as a piece of the puzzle to solving a crime, Alice is forced to rely on other methods to find the answer. For this reason, Alice will rarely rely on instinct, more content to think things through fully before she acts.

Luckily for Alice, she tends to think very quick on her feet. And she learns quickly. While she still might not quite understand why Aoko wanted to be her friend, she appreciates the friendship nonetheless and has grown to trust Aoko unendingly.

Alice is practical, not taken to whimsy and though she was raised to be a lady, with all of the airs and graces, she was also raised to know practical things. Whatever task Alice sets herself to, she finishes, and finishes well, right, and proper. She's determined and stubborn, but in a quiet, steady way that doesn't force her will onto others, rather, simply refuses to let others force their will upon her.

She is a highly intelligent girl, and has a deeply analytical mind. As a talented detective, Alice observes all the finite details of a case and manages to piece them together into a solution. Her eyes rarely miss a thing even if, as is often the case in regards to the human element, she doesn't quite understand what the detail might mean.

However, all of this means that she can be rather fussy and worry too much over the details, if she lets herself. Alice has a bad tendency to obsess and an inclination towards perfectionism that means she is constantly overly critical and judgemental of herself. She always thinks that she can do better. When she surrounds herself with positive, supportive individuals like Aoko, however, she does much better. Due to her extensive studies in the realms of psychology and the like, Alice is all to aware of the weak points and usually she can spot and try and temper them herself. She's getting better at it every single day.

Generally, however, Alice is a happy girl. She's doing what she loves, has a good, true friend, and, well, let's just be honest, those Kid heists are a lot of fun, aren't they?

Abilities: Alice has no real abilities or powers beyond, perhaps, a strange ability to keep perfect time. She is highly intelligent, and a talented detective, but she can also go a bit tunnel vision in that regard if she's not careful. She's had some formal training in criminal psychology and is a decent actress, as evidenced by the Sunset Manor case in Detective Conan when she faked her own death. She typically carries a gun and handcuffs on her person as well, and knows how to use both of them.

Her grandam made sure she was properly schooled in how to be a lady, but she also made sure that Alice knew anatomy, self defense, billiards, and how to cheat at poker. She learned embroidery when she was younger, as well as horseback riding and formal dance. While she is a horrible cook, her baking is excellent. She can hold her drink quite well.

Writing sample:The necklace that Kid had been after that night was so thin and delicate, it's chain so fine, that Alice almost walked away from the scene of the heist when it was all over before she registered the feeling of cool metal against the sensitive skin of her neck. She cursed quietly under her breath and spun on her heel to march back up to Nakamori-keibu, unbuttoning the high collar of her blouse as she did.

The strained look of horror on Nakamori-keibu's face - eyes affixed on her hand at her throat like one might eye a cobra - might have been humorous under other circumstances, but Alice was already late meeting up with Aoko tonight and she had no idea how Kid managed to fasten the necklace under her clothes without her noticing. As it was, she simply opened just enough buttons to get her fingers on the clasp to unhook the necklace and hand it to the inspector. "Care of Kaitou Kid." She said, smiling apologetically, before wheeling back around and exiting the scene with as much grace as she could manage, with her collar unbuttoned at the throat and causing her to appear like some sort of ravished victorian lady.

She really wished Kid would stop making fun of her like that.

"What happened?" Aoko said when she saw whatever expression must have been on Alice's face, standing on the doorstep outside the Nakamori house. Kaito's house sat dark and silent next to it, but Alice wouldn't be surprised if Kaito wasn't watching them both through the blinds, just the same. Alice let out a soft sigh and leaned her head against Aoko's shoulder. Aoko's hand rose to rest on her hair. She began petting Alice's hair and, after a moment, made a soft, bemused sound in her throat, fingers curling. "Did Kid give you another courting gift?" She asked, laughing faintly.

Alice's shoulders stiffened.

Aoko's laughter quickly spiraled into something laugh and uncontrolled, until she was leaning on Alice far more than Alice was leaning on her. Eventually her laughter dwindled away, shoulders still shaking intermittedly with tremors of humor.

Alice sighed again and began to carefully try and maneuver the two of them into the house, while Aoko still clung to her for support. It couldn't hurt, she supposed, to try and look on the bright side:

At least this way that weird brat with the flat paned glasses and the creepy stare wouldn't be getting as many commendations in the paper anymore.

Character name: Reeve Tuesti
Character fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Version: v1
Canon point: Reeve will enter the game immediately following his having engineered the successful theft of the Keystone to the Temple of the Ancients and his betrayal of Cloud and his party by handing the Keystone over to the Turks. In spite of this, he has succeded upon remaining with the party, holding the safety of Barret's adopted child over their heads as leverage. Not a proud day.

Background: Reeve Tuesti

Changes from canon, if AU: n/a

Personality: Reeve Tuesti has a secret life.  He's been a good son, a good employee, and a good person.  He's always believed hard work is rewarded and that his work is rewarding.  Reeve Tuesti is affable and accommodating. Reeve Tuesti attempts to use his gifts to benefit the people of his city and his world.  Reeve Tuesti is an employee of a corrupt and crumbling world government.  He is a humanitarian in an inhuman place. The doubts and fears Reeve had been able to excuse or ignore during his early tenure under the ShinRa have surfaced at last, too large to be contained any longer. Reeve Tuesti is too smart for his own good.

A prodigy who designed the Mako reactor in his early twenties, Reeve was certainly a good student.  He's an equally good son.  He's especially close with his mother, Ruvie, and admires her patience and forbearance.  Reeve wants what's best for his mother.  Since the death of his father, Reeve has been urging his mother to actualize, to do some sort of outreach so that she feels more a part of the world and can share her gifts with others.  Active, courageous kindness is a quality Reeve thinks is possibly more important than any other.  He believes that everyone can do some good, no matter how small, and that all life has value.  Reeve is a practical person who believes in what he can prove to be true, but he's far from devoid of wonder or whimsy.  In his architecture, he expresses his idealism and optimism as well as his mastery of structural engineering.  In his exploration of the limits of robotics, he expresses his creativity and humor as well as his love of pure science and discovery.

Being the sort to spend long hours at the office, then take work home as well, Reeve's social life is variable. It's not that he never dates, but being set up by his few friends and the well meaning ladies of the ShinRa secretarial pool is a hit and mostly miss proposition, since most women (or men, for that matter) don't seem all that keen on his interests. Reeve's had a few dates that turned into something that was briefly more, but at heart he's not sure what he's hoping for. He's open-minded about sexual matters but is fairly sure it isn't still appropriate for him to get crushes.  Which he sometimes still does. Though at the moment, he's a just a bit over-scheduled and those little things that add spice to life have been put on the back burner. In fact, the way things stand at the moment, the Head of Urban Development's most constant close companion is a robotic cat.

Character name: Xion
Character fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Version: V1
Canon point: After she disappears in front of the clock tower and says goodbye to Roxas.
Background: Wiki Link

Personality: Xion, at her a core is a very pure, innocent, short lived girl. She really doesn’t know much about that world that she didn’t learn in her 350 days of life with the organization. Having lived much of that life thinking that she didn’t have a heart and thus couldn’t feel emotions, she’s very stinted when it comes to recognizing certain feelings and expressing them. Due to this, she really doesn’t “get” much about the more complex aspects of emotions like love, jealously, restlessness, nervousness. When it comes to the things that she doesn’t understand, she’s infinitely curious, always ready to learn a new thing or two from the people who are so nice as to be willing to share with her.

Not having a 'first' life, she strives towards being able to be a whole person, to be able to have simple talks with people without having to remember what she is, without having to explain. Curious with a cause: That's Xion. Xion is the kind of girl cherishes friendship above all other things, and would do anything to preserve those relationships with the people she cares about. Around other people she isn’t close to, however, she acts fairly shy and reserved. The more playful sides of her personality only crawl out when she’s comfortable enough around someone. It takes a lot of time for her to be able to open up. For Xion the little things like smiles, touches, laughs, they're all very special things. To her, nothing is ordinary about feelings like those.

Additionally, she has an extremely serious, dutiful side that only rears it’s head during situations in which the people she cares about are in serious danger, or when the stakes are at their peak. She can be fairly analytical and observant of her environment. Normally doing what she thinks is best for the task at hand, she’s known to stress a little, but only a little, from her orders. (I.E: Talking to locals when told not to, straying a little bit off course to help somebody in need..)

Xion also has a number of faults in her personality, besides the fact that she’s naive to, well, a fault. When something goes wrong, Xion tends to take the burden up on her own, refusing to ask others for help to ensure that nobody else is damaged by her own mistakes. It’s another aspect of her “anything to preserve the relationship” mentality. She’d let herself be beaten half to death if it meant one of her friends wouldn’t get a cold. She’s more than willing to be the one to shoulder all of the bad, if her friends don’t have to. A bit prone to angst, Xion takes most everything pretty hard, and has a great deal of difficulty looking past her own mistakes, what she is and how she was created, especially. Always throughout her short life, she figured if somebody would have to make a sacrifice, she was the one with the right credentials. If anyone would have to stop existing...

"They say nobodies aren't supposed to exist, but I'm the real affront."

Particularly, Xion is quite fond of a few specific things. One thing she enjoys is being near the ocean, listening to the waves, and collecting sea-shells. However, her favorite thing, the thing she enjoys above all else is simply watching the sunset with her friends, eating a stick of sea-salt ice cream. Xion is seen differently by just about everyone she ever knew in her life. Mostly because of the various connections to Sora, as she appeared to be their strongest memory of him, but that manner of thinking goes much deeper than that--much deeper than just her physical appearance. Some saw her as a puppet, something to be used until it breaks. Some saw her as a tool to be used again and again, something that shouldn't have it's own will. Some saw her as just another nobody, just another non-person. And Roxas and Axel, of course, saw her as a friend. Around unfamiliar people, it would be easy to peg her as a weirdo of sorts. Her reserved nature in combination with that fact that she knows so little about people and their culture and how they work make her a strange sight to look at. That being, it probably wouldn't be too lofty of a task to trick her, and in a lot of ways she could be easily taken advantage of.

The gap between her and 'normal' people is large and hard to fill, but that's one of the things she wants more than anything. Originally she just wanted to run away with her two friends, where they could be together peacefully, but she soon learned that you can’t run forever; you can’t run from your problems. She just wants a life. Free of all the complications of nobodies and replicas. To be able to just sit around with her friends and eat ice cream. That is where her drives lie. A place where not just her, but everyone can be friends and eat ice cream together. A place where people aren't always hurting each other. A world that isn't too complex, a world where everyone is equal and real. A world where everyone can be honest and not have to worry. And so she'll always be doing what she can to preserve ideals like that. She'll be there to protect the people who need it, and there to stand up against the people who do. It's that kind of stuff, the real stuff, the serious stuff, that's what makes her set aside her reservations. That's where she can make a difference and that's where she can truly matter. It'll take all she's got, but she won't give up. A world where everything is right, and nobody needs to make sacrifices.

Abilities: Xion is a capable and adept swordsman, most often wielding a keyblade as her sword. When reaching her peak of strength, she’s noted to be able to blow through very difficult missions in the organization with extreme speed and ease. In addition to this, Xion can also employ a number of magic techniques, ranging from elemental attacks like fire, blizzard, thunder, etc. to healing and reflective magic. Her adeptness at this magic is decent at best, using it mostly as a compliment to her keyblade skills rather than something she uses alone for battle, unless she doesn’t have a weapon. Her most powerful ability is her ‘Event Horizon’, her “limit” attack which she can imply after having sustained rather serious damage on the battle field. It comes in the form of large, pillars of light that crash down from the heavens, as well as increasing speed, strength and agility for a short amount of time.

She can summon her keyblade into her hand at any time, seemingly from nowhere. It appears in her hand as a stroke of light, and then takes it’s form instantaneously. The keyblade has a square, yellow hilt with a long cylindrical, silver, metal shaft. At the end of the shaft are “teeth” like a key in the shape of a crown

. In addition to this she can open "Corridors of Darkness" which can take her to just about any place that she can see in her head, considering the place she's looking to go doesn't have some sort of magical restriction. However as they're filled with darkness, most ordinary people are not safe to travel through them as the darkness can have very adverse affects on the body and heart.

Writing sample: She takes a stern look at the area around her: Grass, dirt, big, metal gates guarding the mansion—her destination. Everything she had been thinking about before was suddenly being questioned. Ready to find out the answers, ready to accept whatever fate was to lie before her, but those gates.

The gates changed everything.

The gates made it real. What she thought was unshakable resolve was completely obliterated by a bunch of big, metal bars. And she started shaking. A lump grew in her throat, and a pit in her stomach.

Her breath escaped her mouth as though it were being sucked out, and words along with it, “I’m not so strong…am I? I’m sorry but…I can’t be weak this time.” She gripped the gates and opened them, walking to the doors of the mansion. Everything counted on this. Sora, Riku, Axel, Roxas...She knew that this is what she had to do, but it couldn’t keep her from thinking in the back of her head how sad it was. Xion had to give up the two people she loved most, along with everything else her world had become. Her heart was shaking, nervous, fragile, but she couldn’t waver.

This was too important.
More important than she was.

“I have to be strong…I have to be strong for everyone…” A small, nostalgic but sweet smile grew on her face as she placed her hand gently upon the doorknob.

“Maybe...someday we can all eat ice cream together. Watch the sunset,” her head tilted upwards, blue eyes looking towards the sun forever hanging just on the horizon.
The smile didn’t waver.
“That would make me...very happy.”
