WHAT TO KNOW
Applications are ALWAYS OPEN, and will be processed as they are received. They must be posted in the comments, NOT linked to.

Before applying, read the rules & setting page and this post in their entirety. Use the potential applications page or the FAQ if you have any questions about the process. There is also a sample app and an explanation of how we process apps if those interest you. The wanted characters list may also be helpful.

In general, however, we would rather have a shorter, better written application than a longer one, every time. That said, length is one of the least important factors in our applications. We look primarily at the voice samples, then the personality section and writing sample. The voice samples are by far the most important section, and we prefer that these be thread links, because they give us a sense of how you play the character rather than simply how you write an application for the character.

The application page from the former site can be found here.

MISC. RULES
We do allow challenge apps, but we wait the duration of the reserve for the other app to come in before processing them against each other.

Applications or parts of applications (such as the initial comment containing contact information) will be screened on request.

There is a one week grace period for dropped characters during which applications for them will be held pending. The former player can choose to pick up those characters at any time during that week without re-applying.

If you are asked for a revision, you have one week to submit them before your app will be automatically declined. You must resubmit your app in its entirety if that happens. Always feel free to ask us to clarify what we're looking for on revisions; we won't bite.

If you are rejected, we encourage you to re-apply. We like seeing players that have taken our critique and worked on improving their portrayal. The exception is a character rejected on the grounds that they would be difficult to impossible for others to play with. Playability is an important factor.

Our plagiarism policy is as follows: the first offense will be met without consequence. The second offense results in a one month ban from apping. Subsequent further offenses will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis but most likely incur longer bans, up to and including indefinite bans.

APPLICATION IN DETAIL
Your name:
Your journal: A sock is fine, or a commonly used character journal if you don't have a personal one. Just please be consistent with your identity for ease of reference.
Contact: AIM/plurk/email/etc., whatever you prefer to be contacted.
Other characters played at Passing:

Character name:
Character fandom:
Version: V1, V1.# or V2+ should be the only options.
Canon point: What point of their timeline you're taking them from.
Importing development from old game? If yes, where from?
Background: Link to the Wiki entry on it, or if the series has its own wiki, the character's page. A comprehensive fan site is an acceptable substitute. If you cannot find one of these that works well enough for us to get a good grasp of your character from a third party, please write out the standard 'history' section for this on your own. Please include this even if applying for an AU version of the character. OCs need the history section written out as well, obviously.

In general, though, this should be a link whenever possible and not a written history. We use it to compare an unbiased third party account against your represented version of the character. If you include a written history, we will ignore it completely and look up whatever is available for that character on Wikipedia ourselves.

Changes from canon, if AU: What it says. Detail here how the AU world is different from canon, or what events have happened in their previous game that have lead them to be different.

Personality: The meat of the application, and self-explanatory. We want to see that you understand what makes them tick. If AU, try to include explanation for where and why the character has changed from canon.

Abilities: What are they particularly good at, or if they do have superhuman powers, what are they? A bullet point list will suffice.

Writing sample: At least 200 words of your own writing in third person prose, preferably about the character you're applying for. Samples about others are allowed, in any setting. This is to gauge your writing style and technique, not your grasp of character. That's the next section.

Voice sample: You may either write 200 words of your character speaking to himself, or you may link to threads, or you may request to thread with a mod character.

Regular voice sample: If choosing option one, the standard first person sample rules apply. The word count applies only to spoken words, not action in brackets, and since 200 words is a lot for some quiet characters, more than one different samples are allowed.

Linking to threads: If you are linking to threads, make sure they are lengthy ones that demonstrate your understanding of the character. We don't need a million of them, but remember that this is as a substitute for a sample, and we will evaluate it the same way. Threads that took place in other games, museboxes, or [community profile] dear_mun are all fine.

Threading with a mod character: You may also request to thread with a mod character - please do so in the body of your application when you submit it, rather than contacting a mod privately. The first available mod will respond back as soon as possible and discuss with you who your character would be best suited to play off of of their characters, and then you will agree on a time to sit down and crack out a thread.

These will be 'quick log' style in brackets and not prose to make them go faster and keep the focus on dialog. These do not have to be masterpieces of wonder, but your application will not be judged until you have finished the thread (at least 20 comments on your part), so think carefully before choosing this option. The mods will make every effort to respond to your tags quickly.

Lor'themar Theron | Warcraft | V1.1?

Your name:
Your journal: Miri
Contact: silverjade @ Plurk
Other characters played at Passing: Rufus ShinRa [V1] , Sephiroth [V2], Fuuma Monou [V1]

Character name: Lor'themar Theron
Character fandom: Warcraft
Version: V1.1?
Canon point: Cataclysm, Pre-Deathwing's Fall / Pre-Mists of Pandaria
Importing development from old game? N/A
Background: I am the regent lord. Not the king.

Changes from canon, if AU: I don't know if this applies to the AU qualifications or not, but I plan to have Sylvanas Windrunner turn on the living world and thus turn her people against it. Her first target will be the land that Lor'themar oversees along with all the land surrounding it, save for that held by the Argent Crusade.

Personality:
If there is anything which can be stated about Lor'themar, it is that he is dedicated to his people and his land. Be it as a Farstrider and guardian of the Sunwell, or as their Regent Lord. He cares deeply about their race and the land they call home, so much that it can force him to do things which pain him with guilt after the fact. This love of his for his people can also allow others to in essence twist his arm to get him to agree things that he would otherwise refuse to do, for the sake of those people.

When Kael'thas charged him with leading their people in their prince's absence, he took to the task with fierce determination, attempting to reclaim their lost land across the river while they waited for their prince to return. When he was faced with accepting aid from beings they distrusted and loathed, he eventually accepted it despite the division it caused because he knew that they could not do what was needed alone. This unfortunately forced him to make another decision which haunts him to this day, exiling part of their race outside of their lands because they hated this new alliance with the undead that looked so much like the scourge which had killed so many of them in the Third war.

These decisions were only the beginnings of the hard road ahead, some of the decisions he had to make would even place strain on his friendships, considering the two could not see eye-to-eye on some of the issues which came up. Yet all that came before was nothing compared to the betrayal that came down upon them when their prince returned and proceeded to attack them and rob them of two rather important beings in order to summon a demon which would if actually brought into their world, destroy them and their world.

Having to turn on the very man most had believed would save them was a hard and extremely painful task, the wound of which has yet to heal. Also it remains a haunting lesson to the man on how dangerous it can be for someone to give in to the thought that the ends justify the means. Yes, certain actions might aid their people, but at what cost? This is something he has to weigh silently when making his decisions. To this end, one could compare the love their prince, Kael'thas, once held for his people to the love Lor'themar holds and find them scarily similar. Fortunately, Lor'themar now has a clear example of what can happen if one allows themselves to go too far in the goal to restore their people and bring them back to the heights they once enjoyed.

Abilities:
-He is a Farstrider, a basic summary of the Farstriders follows thus:
Farstriders are all blood elves. Furthermore, every one is a ranger of some sort. While the rare Farstrider may focus on roguish pursuits, the faction is entirely combat-related, and even their rogues are deadly with a bow. Or without, for that matter. Joining the Farstriders is no mean task. You must go through an extensive trial period, testing your archery skills as well as your survival and stealth skills. No Farstrider is truly a greenhorn, though. To become a Farstrider, a character must have excellent stealth and survival skills and at least some training as a ranger. A newly inducted ranger receives extensive training in guerilla tactics, as well as lessons in anatomy. Senior members are killing machines. They can put an arrow through a goblin’s heart at 500 paces and not even break a sweat. Most senior Farstriders have killed more beasts than any soldier in the blood elf military. They make Defias assassins look like babies.

-In-Game abilities:
Cleave - 110% weapon damage to up to three targets.
Arcane Shock - 23125 to 26875 arcane damage, reflectable, 20 yard range
Mana Burn -11875 to 13125 mana burned, 2 damage for each mana burned, 30 yard range
Mass Charm - 15 second charm, 50 yard radius around Lor'themar.

-In obvious addition to his martial prowess, Lor'themar does know and can practice magic (as is per the norm for his race), his in-game abilities even show this and it is said that the Farstriders were known to use spells to entangle and ensnare some of their targets.

Writing sample:
To those familiar with the rebuilt Silvermoon Palace, the room in which the dream opens up into would be rather familiar. It's the throne room, a short trip away from another room in which a softly glowing rose colored orb resides. The instrument of the the Dark Lady's act of betrayal upon the sin'dorei. Bodies littered the floor, blood from them adding yet another shade of red to it. Guards dressed in gold and scarlet lay collapsed just feet from the trio they had failed to protect. Two others, one mostly clad in blue leathers and the second in scarlet and golden cloth lay unmoving on the ground as well.

The final and third form was currently making his slow way up towards that accursed orb with every intent on shutting it down, even if he had to shatter it to do so. Those responsible for this atrocity had left, after apparently considering him done for and while he could feel the poisons working their way through his bloodstream, he knew if he could just manage to get the orb shut down and make it a few minutes longer... help would arrive and their priest and/or even their blood knights would be able to set him and both of his friends to right.

So far that goal was looking viable, he'd made it to the doorway of the room containing the orb. But it was as if something refused to allow him to escape, and someone dark-clad appeared suddenly before him. Only an naive fool would for a moment even toy with the idea that the woman before him wasn't responsible for tonight's events, considering the nature of their attackers. Despite knowing he was in no fit condition to face off with her, he still forced himself to straighten up and heft the sword he'd brought with him into a defensive position.

Has to do with a couple things really, one is a fic on battlenet about her, another is seeing her in game in cata, the way she treats people that aren't her own people. She says Koltira has compassion which he doesn't need at the end of a certain Western Plaguelands quest and she plans to rid him of it. And also some fine theory crafting on a site that I don't know (don't think I did alas) if I bookmarked it or not. There's also an Echo of Syvlanas in the game as a part of Cata where she actually does go mad turns on anything living in the time of that timeframe.

But basically, things change.

In the game, Cataclysm, Sylvanas has launched an aggressive attack into the regions of Lordaeron and the greater Eastern Kingdoms not directly under her control, in an attempt to remove all hostile presences from the continent and secure it for the Forsaken.

Sylvanas is seeing the Forsaken as more her people than the elves in Quel'Thalas are, imo. Thus it isn't hard for me to see the possibility that everything living might end up being seen as a 'hostile' presence. After all, part of elves in Quel'Thalas still don't much care for the forsaken despite being allied with them. All it would take is for enough of that distrust and displeasure to reach her again and again, and considering she's already getting crap from the Orcs and other races for their actions at Wrathgate. I could see the 'everyone is now against us' mentality coming to light in a manner of speaking.

Also one can say the forsaken are a (forgive the unintentional pun) dead race, in that they can not reproduce, the only way to create new Forsaken is to use one of the Val'kyr to raise a corpse into a Forsaken.. so she could even raise the elves she killed as part of the Forsaken, which would give her that much more of a wall between her and the darkness she found when she actually died.. a maddening darkness.

I also thought of the bit in Lor'themar's story, In the shadow of the sun, where Syvlanas actually threatens to pull out all of her support from Lor'themar if he doesn't do what she says then and there. While he argues with her, he eventually gives in cause he knows he needs that support..

If she actually cared about the people and the land the way she might have used to once.. I don't think she would have pulled such an obviously crass move like that. She knew that they can't stand up against the undead still holding those lands at that time and still threatened to pull out all her people and let the elves there get slaughtered pretty much if Lor'themar didn't give her her way... not the most caring of actions imo..

Abilities:

Experience Level/General Magic: In the series, it's pointed out by Kyuubey that Kyoko and Mami are both exceptionally skilled due to their experience. This is where Homura, who has immense experience throughout the various timelines, gets her own amazing ability and skill from, much as with her amazing performance in school and sports. Over time, she's had time to analyze all these battles and perfect her own techniques and strategies. She's learned what works for her, and how to get what she needs (particularly the firearms, and even teaching herself to build some of them from the internet). Post-rewrite, she still has all this experience; thus she is likely extremely effective against the demons that have replaced the witches.

Time/Shield: Homura no longer carries her shield with the hourglass into battle. She has thus either lost or given up using at least some of her powers over time, likely in part because the purpose of that power, and the wish that created it, are fulfilled; at least, to the greatest extent possible.

Weapons (Bow): The bow is her weapon now. Typically, a bow represents purification (as opposed to the destructive force and bluntness of her firearms, and very appropriate for battling 'demons'), and of course the obvious connection to Madoka makes it something that lets Madoka go on living as much as possible through her. She keeps Madoka close to her through these choices, just as she does by interaction with Madoka's family. Although it is a relatively new weapon to her, she seems to handle it very effectively.

Telepathy: This is likely still in use, but now it is likely used between all the magical girls. Even Homura, judging from her acceptance of Kyuubey, would be willing to put it to use, possibly as an effective way to coordinate their actions in their battles.

Personality:

Once the world is rewritten, Homura is able to let go of many of her burdens. Since those burdens - her drive to save Madoka which became tied to her need to keep herself from despair - pushed her to her deliberate change from the shy and quiet Homura into the Homura of the main timeline, their release also allows for a dramatic change.

There is a large difference in her attitude towards Kyuubey and his race. When he says the former system would be much more efficient for them, she agrees they would have taken advantage of it- it's just how they are. This simple acceptance (though still not approval, of course) is a marked change from her antagonism to him and his deceptions throughout the main timeline, which even resulted in her attacking him. Significantly, he is the one she explicitly tells about the former universe and system (she would not have willingly or easily given him information in the main timeline), and even more significantly, she is willing to work together with him despite their enmity from the former timelines. This all also suggests she may be more accepting of people and their flaws in general, as well as more open herself.

She is definitely somewhat softer, or at least gentler. She finds some closure by talking with Madoka's family, and is kind and pleasant with them rather than aloof. She plays with Madoka's little brother, and chats with her mother before even offering her one of Madoka's ribbons, a precious keepsake. She likely visits them as often as she can without seeming strange, perhaps even becoming a big sister figure (standing in Madoka's place, to a point) and occasional babysitter to Tetsuya. Even her grieving over Madoka's loss has changed from the panicked sobbing during Madoka's final choices, and has moved into acceptance. Now, her sorrow shows itself by the way she's drawn to the things connected to Madoka.

Among the other magical girls, Homura is no longer seen giving warnings or butting heads with them nearly as much, and has become more a part of the group and team. Granted, in the main timeline she was willing to work together for her goals, but this goes beyond allying for a common goal and into more of true comraderie. They likely face all these battles together. She is also much more open about her feelings; the main timeline Homura would never have cried in front of the others as she cries over Madoka in the new universe (though the original, more emotional Homura likely would have; she's become more in touch with that former self and has found a middle ground between the Homura who thought she was useless and the too-cool Homura).

Although she still sees the world somewhat negatively, and describes it as having no possibility of actual salvation, Homura is now willing to fight for it as her own decision, simply because Madoka cared for it, and is no longer doing so solely as an outcome of her wish or for self-preservation. This is Madoka determining Homura's choices again, as Madoka will remain a driving force and important person for her; but it's also a slight shift in Homura's thinking. There is a reason for her to protect the world, and for her to at least try to accept it. This is actually much of the key to Homura after the main timeline: accepting the world as it is and for what it is, as opposed to her long struggle to undo and redo it. She has moved from protecting Madoka into protecting the concepts Madoka now embodies as one and the same thing.

Still, even with the changes, she is left slightly lonely as the one with outside knowledge, like before. Only Homura remembers Madoka at all, or all the struggles in the earlier timelines and universe. The other magical girls don't even seem to recognize the name, and even Madoka's own family think 'Madoka' must be their little boy's imaginary friend or a fictional character when he talks about her and draws pictures of her. (The shared memory is likely why Homura feels drawn to him.) Kyuubey, notably, tells her it's no different from a dream or imagination if only she remembers it and there is no proof. Sharing with Kyuubey makes it likely Homura would share with her friends and fellow magical girls as well, especially as she's already seen to be more open in general now; but even so, though they'd be grateful for Madoka and what she did for everyone, it wouldn't have the personal meaning to them without those memories. She still somewhat stands outside of time in her own experiences and memories, if no longer literally.

First-Person Sample:

She’d say the same. It’s better if the people in this city are still unaware of magical girls or demons if it means we’ve been able to head off the danger and keep them safe. None of us chose this for fame anyway. We all fight for our own reasons and our own wishes. As for me, I‘ve decided to protect them here on Earth.

It doesn’t mean there are no rewards. There are the smiles and relief of the ones we’re able to save. Their gratitude. I can almost see what I’m looking for in those. I can feel as though we’re making a difference without just thinking about our own fate. There are the stolen moments to sit beside the river or stolen moments for myself. Magical girls have become friends and we fight together much better now.

There are still curses, left by the demons.. We still battle until we disappear and there is still no turning back. We still live to struggle. However, even if this world still has those things, for us, it’s no longer hopeless.

Maybe it’s a compromise. It isn’t a world I would have made or chosen for myself, but it’s a world where we can still live at peace with ourselves in the end. Thus, when the time comes to fight, I move forward.

Character fandom: Ouran High School Host Club
Version: Version 01 | Manga
Canon point: End of Series
Importing development from old game? None
Background: http://ouran.wikia.com/wiki/Kyoya_Ootori

Changes from canon, if AU: none

Personality: Kyouya has a very quiet and serious demeanor about him. To most he appears to be a very distant and calculating person who is uncaring and uses everything to further himself or his own ambitions; focused on maintaining his spot at the top of his class, furthering any business connections and ties though any and every means available, and keeping tabs/information on any potential clients or partners. When it comes to dealing with clients and others Kyouya will wear a smile as a way of charming them and getting them to lower their guard/persuade them. As for the other hosts, it is revealed that Kyouya has a very cruel sense of humor and enjoys torturing them from time to time; especially Tamaki and has his own way of influencing each. While he takes charge in most situations he does so in such a manner that it appears that it is someone else running things; this is partially due to his position as the third child of the Ootori family. Most of what Kyouya has planned will remain unknown to others until such a time that it is beneficial to reveal it, including the true purpose of a visit to a park or why they might be somewhere. And while he was someone that was closed off and simply did the will of his father, his time with the host club has gotten him to open up more and become attached to the members of the host club, as well as to strive and reach his own goals and surpassing his brothers. Tamaki is Kyouya’s closest friend and the only time in which he loses his composure is with Tamaki or when addressing something which is hurting/affecting Tamaki. In recent chapters it has been revealed that despite his families reputation in the medical field Kyouya plans on attending college abroad and majoring in Business rather than Medicine.
Academics: Kyouya has been at the top of his class every year that he has attended Ouran. His favorite subjects are Physics and Mathematics.

Quirks: Kyouya always has a notebook with a full detail of client data while attending host club activities, this includes notes about their family, relations with other students, class and rank in school, and any other notes of interest. Kyouya’s titles include Okaasan/Mommy (after his position as co-founder of the host club and vice president), Shadow King, Low Blood Pressure King (Kyouya has trouble waking up). Also due to his low blood pressure, Kyouya does not wake up easily once asleep and when he first wakes up is usually in a violently ill mood.

Abilities: Organization, business, analytically, and financial analysis.

Re: Korra | Avatar: The Legend of Korra | reserved

[personal profile] howdoiairbend 2012-06-11 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Let's just let Korra speak for herself, shall we? The first line we ever hear her say in the series is, "I'm the Avatar! You gotta deal with it!" And at the time, she's four years old and bending three elements out of four already. No wonder she gets so cocky and confident thirteen years on.

The first thing about Korra is that she is definitely cocky and confident. Who wouldn't be, when they're basically the one person in their world who can manipulate three out of four elements? Unfortunately, this has led to a few skirmishes in canon, since being the Avatar, she was stuck in a compound for a good part of her life with only her polar bear dog as her best friend, and thus doesn't really know much about the real world. She assumes that, being the Avatar, she can basically do what she wants as long as the cause is good. In her first fight with a bending triad (think Mafia, only with BENDING), she tears up a city block trying to defend a couple, and later on tries to evade the metalbending police.

Yes, her intentions are good. Korra's full of good intentions, but sometimes it just blows up in her face, thanks to her impulsiveness. She doesn't really think things through before actually going through with them, as seen when she challenges Amon to face her when pressured, when she kisses her teammate and crush Mako (even though he already has a girlfriend), when she does more harm than good trying to defend an innocent couple...the list goes on. She's rash, immature, stubborn, hot-headed.

Then again, she's a seventeen-year-old girl. What did you expect? Not only that, but she's a seventeen-year-old girl with huge responsibilities, and a very famous predecessor. There's a lot of pressure on her to live up to Avatar Aang's legacy, which is a little hard since, personality-wise, she's the exact opposite of the guy. As a result, she lacks much confidence in that area, often thinking about what others might think about her as the Avatar, especially since, due to focusing exclusively on the physical aspect of bending, she's pretty much hit a block with airbending. And then there's the typical teenager issues she has to deal with, as well as the problems that arise from her being sheltered all her life and only now seeing the real world.

Not only that, but she's also facing down what is quite possibly the most terrifying villain ever shown on children's television. Amon has been shown to be able to take away people's bending, and Korra's whole life has been centered around bending. Of course she's afraid, because without her bending, without her identity as the Avatar? She's nothing but a sheltered teenager.

Of course, though, she doesn't let that show. Like I said, she's a teenager. A very powerful teenager, yes, but a lot of teenagers tend to bottle up their true feelings when they're going through a tough time, and Korra is no exception. Yes, she can be straightforward, but on a serious, Avatar-related matter like this? She has to be strong. She has to live up to Aang's legacy, to what people expect of her. She's the Avatar, she can't afford to be afraid, even when she is. That's what leads her to join Tarrlok's (aka Bastard Scumbag's) task force, and what eventually leads her to challenge Amon to a duel. It takes a traumatic encounter for her to admit, to one person, that she is afraid, and doesn't know what to do.

Granted, Korra is full of flaws, but she's also incredibly fun to hang out with. She jokes around, teases people, pulls pranks, stuff like that. She's rather tomboyish and lacks shame in that area, since she beats Bolin in a burping contest, and also fiercely loyal to the people she cares for, even if she can get a bit strange about it. She's stubborn to a fault, and although occasionally disrespectful towards her elders and irritable towards other people, often tries to make amends for her wrongs. And she's certainly trying her hardest when it comes to being the Avatar, even if she makes mistakes in the process.

In summation, Korra's a teenager who's saddled with an incredible responsibility, yet manages to remain upbeat through it all. She's a good person, despite all the flaws, and sure to be a good Avatar as well, if she manages to break through that spiritual block first.

Re: Korra | Avatar: The Legend of Korra | reserved

[personal profile] howdoiairbend 2012-06-11 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities:

Korra is the Avatar, which basically means that she can bend all four elements. She's the only one in her world who can do this, though at this point, she can't airbend worth a crap. She can, however, bend fire, earth and water, and does so with ease by the time she's four. She's very good at the physical aspect of bending, though the spiritual aspect leaves something to be desired.

When it comes to waterbending, Korra was trained by Katara, who is basically a Very Good waterbender, and as a result is able to bend all forms of water easily, like ice and steam, for starters. She can also heal people, though it's only been shown in one episode so far. However, since she was taught by Katara, it's safe to assume she can heal a large amount of injuries, barring some very serious ones.

Korra is also good at earthbending. In canon, she's been shown to be able to launch members of a bending triad into the air, and can also pretty much destroy a wide radius using this element.

She is, surprisingly, good at firebending as well. In fact, she's so good at it that it's become a default element for her. It's explained that, even though she's a native waterbender, her personality fits the element very well, right down to her impatient nature.

She's also pretty damn strong. We're talking about a girl who can lift a man in his fifties and his three kids into the air in a group hug, with relatively little effort here, folks. Even when unarmed, she has a good knowledge of martial arts, being able to knock out and subdue opponents without having to use her bending. She's quick and nimble, being able to pull off complicated gymnastics without a hitch.

“ARGH!” Korra shouts, incinerating her target to ashes. “Airbend already, dangit!”

She’s been at it for the better part of the night, having gone through at least twenty targets already. Each one now lies in a heap of ashes, and she still hasn’t managed to airbend even a puff.

“Half-baked.” “Not ready.” “Hot-headed.” “Rash.” “Unprepared.” “Easily lets her emotions control her.” “Not a good Avatar.” The words of others bubble up in her thoughts as she sets up another target, and she clenches her teeth and tries to squash them down, but the sight of the heap of ashes in the corner reminds her that she still hasn’t mastered airbending yet.

Why should she master it, anyway? So far she’s done well with three elements out of four. There’s no reason why she can’t just use them instead of having to train day after day to master one element, if she can’t use it.

But…

…what if something happens to her? What if she’s trapped in a situation where she’s far away from earth and water, and can’t bend fire? What should she do, then? Sit and wait for help?

No way. Korra’s never been one to sit pretty and wait for help. Plus, people are relying on her, and she can’t let them down. What kind of Avatar would she be, if she failed the people looking to her for help, huh? She’d be a failure, that’s what. A half-baked Avatar, just like what Tarrlok said.

Tarrlok. Great. It’s been a few days since then, but she still can’t get the feeling of being bloodbent out of her head. Every night, she wakes up, a scream dying on her lips, alone in her bed and not being forced to attack her own friends, her own family. If it isn’t her bending being taken away, it’s losing control over her own body that fills her nightmares these days.

She shudders, then settles into an airbending stance. She tries to clear her thoughts, but they keep rising up to the forefront of her mind—the loss of control, Tarrlok, Amon still walking free, Mako and Asami, her failures, everything.

For the twenty-first time, she lets out a frustrated shout, and incinerates the target.

Well.

No one ever said it’d be easy.

She sighs, sets up another target, and begins again.

Character name: Vera Misham
Character fandom: Ace Attorney
Version: V1
Canon point: pre-trial
Importing development from old game? N
Background: Who's There?
Changes from canon, if AU: n/a

Personality: At the beginning of her case, Vera is deathly afraid of talking to people: Apollo and Trucy are waiting 20 minutes to talk to their client before they realize she's been there the whole time, hiding just beside the window, and there's several occasions in which Vera overreacts to new people or surprises in various bad ways (including fainting). She responds very little and focuses on her nails. She's been like this most of her life due to a childhood kidnapping attempt. When responding about something that's "happy" or "sad", she simply draws a face on the notebook with an appropriate expression, her own face remaining blank; the only emotion that seems to really show through is fear. She's not unfriendly though; once Trucy shows interest in her nail polish, Vera offers her some (and this is her magic charm), and she gets more talkative about the Gramarye troupe. Magic excites her and though she understands that what the Gramaryes do is stage magic, she seems to hold a belief in deeper magic, from her comparisons of Kristoph to both devil and angel, to her lucky charm, to her allusion to the Gramaryes as she describes her own change in the ending. From the beginning of the trial she expresses regret at what happened to her father because of the forgeries, saying she's never had a good constitution or personality. From this and flashbacks of her as a child, it seems like she's never had good self-esteem. At the end of the trial, she's still quiet but more cheerful, actually smiling herself instead of on paper, and appears to be confident in her decision to both face the damage her forgeries did and join the rest of the world in life. However, this being pre-trial, she won't yet have found the need to change, or the people who helped her see that there is good in the outside world.
Though this isn't very apparent in her mannerisms, her talent at making exact copies shows that she has a great eye and mindfulness for detail.

Abilities: Being an extraordinarily sheltered young woman, Vera really has no exceptional abilities beyond her talent at reproducing things exactly—whether painting, or a real object—and being a fast draw at sketching, which she uses as part of her communication.
Writing sample:
She wouldn't go outside. She would never go outside. There were only bad people out there. In here, with her father, she was safe.

But even such security couldn't make the smallness of her world go away. She never wanted out, but she always had a thirst for the beautiful sights of the world. Some were provided by the television, but the ones that struck her deeply and stayed with her were almost always in the paintings she copied for her father. It might have been because of how long she looked into them, carefully studying each detail before making its match on the new canvas. That probably had something to do with it. When she studied each one in such minuteness, they seemed larger than they really were, little worlds within themselves.

Perhaps because she worked so hard at copying them, she often found herself within one of those "little world" In her dreams. It often looked like the "outside", but that didn't scare her because she knew these places. Unlike the real world it was planned and orderly, neatly tied up by visual principles. Even the people in the dream were like that, except for the few who weren't.

Those ones bothered her most of all. Were they real? Were they something else? …Could she be kidnapped here? She didn't want these little worlds of hersto be ruined by anything.

Character name: Howard Bassem
Character fandom: Gone
Version: V2 (AU because of game import)
Canon point: Between Plague (#4) and Fear (#5)
Importing development from old game? Yes, from Trans9 and Winter
Background: Unfortunately, the Gone wiki is utter pants, so I will try and keep this brief but relevant.

Howard started off as an average 8th grade student in high school, one of the few black kids in a predominantly white community. Being small and crafty, he befriended the school bully for protection, Orc, and the two became inseparable. During the 'poof', in which all people over 15 years old mysteriously vanished and a giant electrical wall erected itself over their hometown, Caine Soren assumed control of the town, and unwilling to make waves with someone with telekinesis, Orc and Howard became deputy sheriffs to Drake Merwin. During this time Orc accidentally beat another child to death.

Afraid of Caine's response to a series of botched kidnapping attempts, Howard suggested defection to Orc. Orc was too depressed to want to take sides, and he and Howard decided on becoming neutral players in The FAYZ. After Orc and Drake Merwin battled and Sam Temple regained control of Perdido Beach, Howard and Orc were allowed back into the community, but not necessarily welcomed. Howard and Orc continued to work for Sam, and Howard became Orc's 'manager', arranging for Orc to work in the fields as a vegetable-picker in exchange for alcohol. At this point, Howard began to sell drugs to the other residents of Perdido Beach

.

Howard later sweet-talked his way onto the newly-assembled town council. During a fire on Sherman Avenue, Howard and Orc risked their lives to save as many children as they could, working tirelessly into the night. After they'd done all they could, Howard lambasted the other councilmembers for not helping to save the city they were sworn to serve.

After another battle for Perdido Beach, in which they discovered that Brittney was not only a zombie, but the part-time reincarnation of local sociopath Drake Merwin, Howard and Orc agreed to incarcerate her in their basement. After Brittney/Drake escaped and Orc ran off on a drinking binge, Howard tracked Orc and found him only after Orc had accidentally killed another child. During the ensuing conversation, Orc broke Howard's nose and walked away, leaving Howard to dispose of the child's body. Howard was alerted to an attack that left Albert terrible wounded, and after some completely unnecessary deliberation, called on the healer to save his coworker. He later reconciled with Orc and joined Sam's pilgrims to the lake.

Game history from Trans9:

While on Stacy, Howard established himself as the 'resident junkyard packrat' by salvaging miscellaneous materials from unclaimed buildings in the city, and was trained as a Medic. Stacy sent him on multiple missions, many of which ended in him running around in terror.

He also helped pasteurize milk for the Chancellor in exchange for a cut of the ice cream, which he needed for midnight bingeing. He lived at the Susono Inn with his two cats, Sushi and Emergency Rations, and the other Inn residents. On the ship he began to develop close relationships with others and begin to recover from the traumatic experience of the FAYZ. He became close friends with a variety of characters, many of whom pushed him to become something of a better person.

He attempted to desert Stacy and start a new life with Orc on Agrestic. The Daligig apprehended him and Orc and attempted to publicly Punish them, but Stacy intervened.

Howard was later sent on a mission, during which he risked his life to save Cedric Diggory and ended up dying of blood poisoning…

Game history from Winter:

…and then waking up in the Garden of Eden! Since then he's mostly been dealing with the fallout of his own death and coming to terms with his sexuality.

Personality:

Howard is a small, usually cowardly kid with an intense survival instinct. He has no loyalty to anyone but himself and to his very small circle of friends, and will often switch sides depending on whomever looks like they're going to be the winner. Generally Howard isn't a cruel kid, though, and when duty really calls, sometimes he'll step up and risk his life to do the right thing; then again, sometimes he'll sink to the bottom and do the selfish, easy thing, and later blame the circumstances instead of taking responsibility.

His foremost goal is always survival, and while he's never killed anyone himself, he's willing to lie, beg, steal, kidnap and send people to get tortured to get by. He sees no moral issue with selling drugs to children, claiming that he only gives them what they want. Oddly enough, he possesses a certain sense of democracy, and doesn't believe elected officials should lie to their constituents.

Howard is abrasive, whiney and sarcastic, and often bemoans that nobody around him has a sense of humor. He tends to be a pessimist and assumes the worst of everybody. He's very clever and because he automatically distrusts his peers, he's capable of seeing through other people's motivations and getting at what makes them tick. He is very keen on personal space and does not like to be touched without warning*.

Howard's intense loyalty to his friends has led him to do some incredibly risky things, and he can be very nurturing and self-sacrificing if their situation calls for it. Due to insecurities, he is also very clingy and needy to those he is close to. When questioned about it, though, Howard is afraid to show or acknowledge affection for anyone, and talks about others as if they're game pieces, enemies, or resources to exploit. Over time, he's relaxed somewhat and become friends with a few other characters, and has made efforts to be more social and working within a community instead of just leeching off them*.

Howard tends to give people nicknames based on first impressions of them. He chews on miscellaneous items as stress relief and is prone to hoarding and binge-eating*.

*Headcanon or resulting from game CR.

Abilities: No superhuman powers. Howard is incredibly resourceful and good at building things out of garbage or improvising weapons or materials. He's a talented lockpick and pickpocket and has an excellent sense of rhythm. He has first aid training.

Excerpt from a fic:

It was such a brilliant and pathetic idea that Howard was shocked he hadn't thought of it earlier.

He sat on top of the toilet seat, nudging the little candle into position with the tips of his fingers. The bathroom window was cracked open, and the screen pushed out and abandoned somewhere in the yard outside; this left just enough room for the fat grey moths to come in. Every few minutes, one would descend to investigate the tiny flame below, and if Howard reacted quickly enough he could trap it against the windowpane. And if he did this for an hour, that many moths might even add up to a snack.

It wasn't like he had anything better to do. He couldn't sleep with the zombie making all that noise downstairs.

As he waited for his next winged victim, Howard hugged his knees to his chest and watched the sky outside. Pitch black, as it usually was at night ever since the power went out. Candles were a rare commodity, but he'd managed to trade some Advil to a kid for this one. Just Advil – all the stronger stuff was used up ages ago.

In the morning, he would turn fifteen. He didn't know exactly when, since his birth certificate was a county over and somewhere beyond the wall. He just knew it was in the morning, this next day in December, sometime around dawn, and that his mother always blamed his small stature on how he was a month early, as if he'd had any say in the whole affair.

Howard smacked his hand against the wall and trapped another moth. It was still wriggling and fluttering when he ate it. Howard made a mental note to kill it entirely first next time; he didn't like living things in his mouth. The moth shed pieces of its wings on his tongue, leaving a powdery, dusty film all over the inside of his teeth.

Fifteen. Fifteen, the magic number. He watched another moth crawl along the edge of the windowframe and thought about escape, and runaway trains, and falling asleep. He thought about birthday candles and what the ninth grade would have been like and how nobody really cared about the fact that Christmas was around the corner, because there was absolutely nothing anyone could find to celebrate, much less the birth of Jesus Christ.

But mostly he thought about escape.

Background:
  • HISTORY

Changes from canon, if AU: N/A

    Personality:
Kanda's unfortunate pasts claims a very big portion of influence on his personality. Not only was he aware of his purpose for creation and how the choice wasn't exactly his, but he knew the people and their reasons they did it. He was created to destroy and to save, suffered experimentation's that felt more like torture, and kept hidden and in the dark. This only brewed anger and hatred within his heart and a serious case of animosity against The Black Order. Regardless of his temperament and his short fuse, he's very good at hiding his true feelings.

At first impressions, Kanda can come off as cold, blunt, and very uninterested in others, with far too much arrogance at his own skills or being. He's prone to insults that more than likely will upset or offend the masses without remorse. When it comes to confrontations, Kanda isn't afraid to start them or resolve them preferring the most ancient traditions of slicing things first and asking later. His temper plays a big roll on his patience preferring the isolated lifestyle instead of dealing with the nuisance of people and their problems he just can't be bothered to care. Kanda treats everyone the same, if he feels they're worth his time he'll bother. Unfortunately, the list of people he could so much as question whether he cares about or not is very small and insignificant. His own emotions, the anger towards the world, and the fact that he really doesn't want any troubles may sometimes prevent him from getting along with people. That's not to say he hasn't grown bonds with some. He's a human after-all, even he can find himself questioning his own concerns from time to time. He lacks patience when it comes to irritating situations which vary from unwanted company to the indecisiveness of a situation. Although he might not be a very expressive guy in terms of reactions and words, he's always very alert and conscious of situations. If he sees something that essentially affects him or concerns him, he will not hesitate to make his opinion clear but with all else he prefers perceiving without being perceived.

That being said, Kanda is very well trained when it comes to emotions. The damage of his past and the pressures of his present are enough of a stressor for any normal individual and, while he is quite the violent type in comparison to his fellow exorcist, he could inherently be worse. There's nothing but pent up rage and murderous intent towards the world within the exorcist he keeps very well hidden. He has his demons and he's very much willing to burn for them. He's gotten all of those emotions and thoughts that might trigger undesirable emotions completely isolated and pent up that, if provoked and set loose, can inherently cause a very terrifying wave of build up feelings that might make Kanda very violent and dangerous.

Despite his distaste towards The Order, their enemies, and various aspects of life and people within it, Kanda still has a very powerful mindset of what he wants and what he believes in. He's stubborn, perhaps too stubborn at times, and he's willing to put it all on the line with his very strong mindset to keep him going. There is no fear of losing, just a slight sense of doubt when it comes to an unknown outcome. As far as the rest goes, it's all chance he's willing to play.

Despite how collected Kanda might seem, he can be quite volatile. His pent-up emotions can easily become his ruin if thoroughly provoked. He doesn't like to think about meanings or reasons, he prefers a line of action that's thorough, without plot, and precise. He tends to run into situations where his dislike for getting involved into situations tends to make him rash. He can get blinded by his irritation and annoyance, even create rifts he probably doesn't necessarily mean to create. He's definitely someone to keep an eye on.

    Abilities:
      Innocence / Mugen
Engineered, and quite literally, to be an exorcist Kanda has the ability to destroy akuma through the invocation of innocence. Although there are many types of forms the innocence can find it's place with an 'accommodater'. In Kanda's case, his innocence was labeled as an equipment type resulting in that he uses something with the infused innocence as a weapon therefore resulting in the creation of Mugen, an indestructible katana that resonates with the bower of his binding innocence. Capable of slicing even the thickest armor, it also has the ability to invoke terrifying and supernatural attacks that can be potentially dangerous to any foe in his path.

      Expert Swordsman
Although it's canonly shown that his hand-to-hand skills aren't as pronounced as Allen Walker (they sure do 'practice' a lot) Kanda is a well known expert swordsman. He doesn't neccesarily need to have his katana as shown in canon (like when his sword breaks) but Mugen tends to be his weapon of choice.

      Artificial Regeneration
Through a series of horrific experimentation's which come of being an engineered second exorcist, Kanda has artificial regeneration powered by a a seal on his chest which, with more damage he takes, grows and inherently weakens. A binding object the physically shows the strength of the seal is a lotus blossom in a sealed container located back in his designated living quarters within the order's headquarters.

      Strength and Agility
Another benefit from the second exorcist project was very heightened ability and strength. With added vigorous training on his own accord, one can almost say Kanda's strength and agility are super human. As far as stamina is concerned, with the artificial regeneration he acquires from the seal on his chest, if the damage he isn't receiving isn't dark in matter or very damage-heavy, then odds are he won't feel any fatigue. It takes a lot to drain him.

    Strengths:
In his line of work, getting so much as a scrape from an infected bullet of an akuma can render him indisposed. His strength and agility make him almost untouchable against normal foes and, even if he is wounded, depending on the wounds (even if he has pretty much healed himself from mere scraps of flesh) he can regenerate making his survival almost assured.

    Weaknesses:
There is a limit to Kanda's strength. There is such a thing as straining his innocence and can lead to not only damaging himself in the sense that he becomes very 'brittle' and breakable forcing his seal to do a lot of work. His sword can break and render itself unusable. This limit can not only hinder Kanda but it's something he has to keep in mind lest he overuse his abilities.

    Writing sample:
It was all gone now. Everything had slid out of his fingers, hadn't it?

It was nightfall and Kanda was sitting alone on the bed in the room the inn-keeper gave him. There was a pitcher of water and a warm meal resting on the night-stand not too far from him but he didn't bother touching it. His stomach ached, his body felt sore, the black was slowly starting to return to his long hair and he was shaking. He wanted to burst but he knew he shouldn't. It was all gone now.

The exorcist inhaled a sharp pain on his chest making him bend over and his joints creak. He was still in pretty bad shape but that was far beyond his main concern. He wanted to be out there, find the person who dragged him here, get back and finish what he started. Things couldn't end like this. He couldn't see them end like this. He'd like to see the faces of central if they ever found out something was far more threatening than them.

How he had gotten out of there or so much as arrived here was beyond him. He wanted to know, he wanted to fight, but he couldn't move and instead of being out there making someone pay he was stuck in here trying to breath and keep himself in one piece, quite literally. His body felt as if any little movement he took would eventually just break him apart. It was taking a lot of his will to keep him from rushing onward but he would manage, that wasn't the problem. What was really killing him was the fact that he was alone, back to square one.

He had finally found what he was looking for and it was all gone. Just like that. It really pissed him off. "That beansprout." He gritted his teeth. If only Allen was here, maybe they could get back. The Ark would work, wouldn't it? Why the hell wasn't he here to find out? "He still pisses me off."

    Version: V1
    Canon point:Chapter 1/Episode 1
Importing development from old game? N/A
Background: Rise of a Mustang within the Military

Changes from canon, if AU: N/A

    Personality:
Mustang is a complex puzzle of a man. Run into him and have a chat with him and even if you are the most keen of observers you will still likely not know anything behind what makes the man actually tick inside. If anything what you think you know about him will in all likelihood be utterly wrong. The man is a consummate actor, and depending on just who's currently around him, Roy will tailor just what he appears to be to suit whatever goals or whims he holds at the time concerning those people. Which is not to say he's manipulative because he isn't (at least not toward his comrades and friends anyway).

Roy has just learned how to keep people guessing about him so they have no real chances to get too close to him or rather closer than he desires them to get. The act also is rather good for hiding what he's up to, well, what he's /really/ up to anyway, not the sham that he lets people catch onto. Those few who have managed to work themselves into Roy's life end up becoming surprisingly loyal to the man without Roy even asking for the loyalty to be given. In return, Roy gives them just as much loyalty, showing a dogged determination to keep them safe, especially after he loses one of them.

Most of the world sees Mustang as a man too young for his rank, who shirks his work for as long as he can manage to get away with it, foisting it off on his subordinates when possible. His notes hold the names of all kinds of women and his conversations on the phone (during work hours no less) also have given him the reputation of being a womanizer of worst kind. He doesn't help this image any when he decides to flirt or romance an unfortunate co-worker's lady interest away either.

He seems at times cold, self-centered, and arrogant, only doing actual work when it holds some benefit for himself. This image is the greatest act of his, causing many to underestimate him, because they don't realize the man is often working even when it appears as if he's goofing off. In fact, many of the women Roy tends to visit and 'date' actually provide him with information he uses to further his plans and goals.

Those said goals are to propel himself upward through the ranks, until he manages to displace King Bradley as the leader of the country and once attaining such a lofty position, using it to turn the country into a better place, where he can actually protect its people instead of being forced to harm them. These goals expand to deal with the Homunculi and also to find the actual culprit behind Maes Hughes murder as time progresses.

His determination, including that sheer conviction in continuing to move forward toward his goals and his ability as a leader have earned him the respect of not only his allies and friends but also that of his enemies. What his enemies throw at him, he takes it in stride and learns what he can from it before continuing to forge on ahead. He may get held back briefly by unexpected setbacks, but he will overcome these events and in the end he will come out of them with some kind of benefit.

Unfortunately for the man, his strength of character is also his worst weakness. The man actually cares for those under his command, which unfortunately means he can be manipulated by threatening those he holds dear to him. The man will worry himself sick if he thinks he's put someone he cares for under the line of fire and will try to correct the situation if at all possible.

However he does know how to hide this worry and stress when necessary, showing weakness outright is pretty much suicide in his position, thus to keep his current place and also ascend higher with his goals he must keep up a serious, if somewhat coldly strict demeanor to those around him that aren't part of his inner circle. Speaking of appearances, Roy is rather a polite person conversation wise. He tends to treat almost anyone he comes across with respect due to them no matter who they are, what they are or what their gender or age is. Admittedly he seems to tease Ed a little, but then the boy is ridiculously easy to rile up even without meaning to.

    Abilities:
Firearms; During his time as a cadet in the military academy, he's been trained in how to use both handguns and rifles.

Leadership; Roy has an almost uncanny ability to lead people and get them to follow him, he's good at manipulating events to suit his purposes and good at knowing what to do in a given situation usually. He has at times even used chess terminology for himself and those under him, styling himself as the king of the board currently in play. Those who have given the man their loyalty tend to remain loyal to him no matter the distance or situation they're placed within afterward and when he calls for their aid, they will give it.

    Alchemy;
    Roy's specialty ~ Flame Alchemy
Using gloves made of "pyrotex/ignition cloth" and embroidered with unique flame alchemy Transmutation Circles, these gloves create a spark when Roy rubs his fingers together and allow him to manipulate the concentration of oxygen in the air surrounding his target, raising its density to a level at which it becomes a volatile and flammable oxidizer, and creating narrow pathways of oxygen through which he can direct the ensuing flame that blossoms from the spark. The 'snap' sound is caused by the instantaneous speed at which the highly concentrated gases and sparks react together and pop (not his fingers actually 'snapping', to common belief.)

It can't be used on rainy days because the humidity makes it impossible for his gloves to produce sparks, though it becomes clear in chapter 38 that water itself does not make him nearly as "useless" as other's assume. Using the transmutation circles on his gloves, he is able to separate hydrogen atoms from the oxygen atoms in water molecules, isolating them into a highly combustible fuel and powerfully volatile oxidizer, respectively. Though this method can only be used when a large quantity of water is present in a relatively closed-off space (and not in the rain where the air is open and separating hydrogen and oxygen for the purpose of combustion would pose far too much danger to anyone in the vicinity), with an outside source of ignition such as a cigarette lighter or a match, Roy can produce extremely powerful, localized explosions.

It has also been revealed that Roy is able to delegate each hand to a different flame effect, possibly due to a difference in hand dexterity. The right hand appears to allow for large explosive attacks, while the left allows for smaller, but strong and very accurate pinpoint flame attacks, demonstrated when he used his left hand to evaporate the liquid in Envy's eyes causing excruciating pain, and the right to engulf Envy in a large explosion.

    Writing sample:
Roy stood on the promontory on the outskirts of one of the districts in Ishval, looking out over the town below. His mind silently compared the scene he saw before him to the one in his memory from nine years ago, and it was satisfying to note just how far they'd come in repairing things here in the last couple years. He turned away from the view to head down toward the town, his mind mulling over things as he walked.

With how good it felt to actually be able to repair, and rebuild what he'd had such a hand in destroying, he thought that perhaps even if he hadn't regained his sight via Marcoh's ultimatum, that he might just possibly have sought to do what he was doing here regardless. It would admittedly be harder to do without being able to see what was happening, but he had people he trusted still working under him. They would have served well as his eyes if he'd asked it of them, he believed.

Roy had just managed to reach the edge of the town proper when the first bout of dizziness hit unexpectedly. It caused him to pause, trying to judge just how long he'd been out moving around in the town today. Had he spent too long working outside in the heat? In this far out east, heat exhaustion was an actual threat he knew. He'd warned a few of the soldiers under his command about it when they'd first begun their work here. Admittedly the heat wasn't as bad here as it was in the great desert, but it was nothing to take to treat lightly regardless.

It was entirely possible, he thought, that the heat from the sun added with that of his full uniform, coat, and the day's activity had conspired against him. It'd be ironic if he ended up suffering from what he'd warned his men to watch out for. As the dizziness faded, Roy made his way out of the direct sun toward a more shaded area, reflecting as he did that he really should have forgone the coat, but it kept the majority of the sand from coating his uniform, and thus kept him from looking like he'd been rolling in it whenever he went in for a meeting indoors. His only real concession to the weather here had been switching from a black coat to a white one, if only so it didn't soak up the heat as badly.

It was shortly after he reached the shaded area that he'd aimed for, that another fit of dizziness hit him, and he briefly leaned against the house to steady himself. He lifted a hand to wipe it across his forehead, brushing damp hair free from his skin as he did so. Heat exhaustion was feeling more likely as the time passed. If that was the case, then he needed to get inside out of the heat and get something cool to drink to combat it. Their makeshift headquarters was the coolest that he knew of, and thus possibly the best place for that. Roy left the shade behind and headed toward the building, trying to reach it as quickly as possible. The sooner he got inside, the better. He didn't need or want to invite possible trouble by possibly ending up with heat stroke and passing out in the street in public view.

As he continued, he felt more and more fatigued. His focus was also wavering and his thoughts began to slide just a little toward panicky. Just how had things gotten so bad? He hadn't thought he'd been out long enough for the heat to affect him like this. It could have possibly been a combination of heat and dehydration. Perhaps he should have carried a canteen with him. Yet, he'd done stints like today during the war here, and he'd been using his flame alchemy which had only added to the heat.

Roy's thoughts were abruptly interrupted as his legs suddenly buckled beneath him, sending him hard onto his knees. He reached out to catch himself from falling face first into the ground. Wincing at the impact, he shook off the pain and attempted to push himself up into a crouch. Once he succeeded, he tried to straighten up from the crouch into a standing position but lost his balance as vertigo assaulted him, driving him back onto his knees again. He looked up trying to see just how far he had left until he reached his goal, but his vision grew dark. Panic stole in again, digging out a rather irrational fear he sometimes worried about. Despite the fact the stone had returned his sight to him, was it possible that it was only temporary? He lost conscious as that last thought passed through his mind, his body falling forward to hit the ground.

    ....

When he woke abruptly, he was forced to calm his racing heart and gather his thoughts together. Opening his eyes to darkness didn't help him quell the last irrational fear he'd been thinking of when he'd passed out. However, as he turned his head slightly and caught the hint of red and yellow around him, he was finally able to put the fear to rest. But what was that red and yellow he was seeing? Just where in the hell was he now? Unless he was deep underground, it was too cool to still be Ishval. Just how long had he been unconscious? Who had moved him and where? And perhaps, more importantly, why?

Canon point: Deathly Hallows – after Dobby’s death when they’re staying at Shell Cottage
Importing development from old game? N/A
    Background: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Hermione_Granger

Changes from canon, if AU: N/A

    Personality:
Hermione is extremely well known for being extremely intelligent and hard-working even during her first year at Hogwarts. Her parents are both Muggles and yet she comes to Hogwarts knowing a lot more about magic than first years with wizards and witches as parents. This shows that she is extremely dedicated to her studies and isn’t afraid to work hard to gain the results that she wants. Throughout her years at Hogwarts she comes out as top in most of her classes and even finds the time to help Harry, Ron and Neville with their schoolwork. She sometimes finds it difficult to say no to her friends when they ask for help with schoolwork and usually ends up giving in. She is of course an avid reader and she enjoys it so much she usually takes out large, obscure books from the library for some ‘light reading’. She is so hard working that she was given a Time Turner in her third year just so she could take more classes. Although she tends to take on a lot more work than is necessary she is extremely adept at all that she does meaning she even finds time for extra-curricular activities such as creating S.P.E.W. This clearly indicates Hermione’s love and compassion for magical creatures and her determination to stand up for their rights. She purchased Crookshanks simply because no one else wanted him. It also shows that she has a strong social conscience which of course will influence her career path in the future.

Hermione thinks about things extremely logically and she does not completely rely on her magical abilities. As a result she manages to pick up on information that most other people miss such as the fact Remus Lupin’s lycanthropy among many others. However, her logical approach to things means that she can be very sceptical about accepting things when there is absolutely no logical proof that it may have happened or that it may exist. Hermione is definitely the more sensible of her three friends and especially at the start of their education at Hogwarts she was extremely reluctant to break any rules probably because it would risk her getting expelled from Hogwarts completely. Of course if the task was important and had something to do with Voldemort then she wouldn’t hesitate in breaking rules because she knows it will be for the greater good. She’s also not afraid to stand up to her friends when she thinks they’re wrong about something important or if it was in their best interests.

Hermione has always been very focused and determined. Once she has a task to do she keeps it in the forefront of her mind until it’s completed. She has a strong will and the fact that she was unwilling to break under the torture of Bellatrix Lestrange also shows her determination. She was willing to endure the Cruciatus Curse over and over again to protect her friends, an admirable trait.

Although Hermione is labelled as a bossy know-it-all deep down it’s clear that she’s very insecure about herself. She masks her insecurities and her fear of failure with this abrasive confidence. This can be shown clearly from her Boggart which takes the form of Professor McGonagall, telling her that she’s failed each of her classes. The need to prove her worth probably has something to do with the way the wizarding society portrays Muggle borns. Many pure blood wizards believe that Muggle borns are ‘mudbloods.’ However, she’s not afraid to stand up to anyone who uses that term towards her such as Draco Malfoy. She refuses to be bullied for who she is and proudly wears the title of ‘mudblood’.

Hermione is extremely brave and has displayed this trait on more than one occasion. Understandably she shows fear and panic when faced with danger but she eventually overcomes these feelings and does whatever she can to help her friends Harry and Ron when they find themselves in any kind of danger. She also great loyalty towards her friends and will stand up for them without any hesitation. She is also more than willing to risk her life to help them. Hermione can be quite blunt when it comes to her opinions on certain topics but she is usually quite careful not to hurt anyone’s feelings and can be sensitive to their emotions. However, she can also be quick to get into arguments, especially when it comes to Ron and she also slaps Draco Malfoy across the face in defence of Hagrid.

Hermione can be quite naive when it comes to romance and love. She has never thought of herself as pretty or beautiful because of her bushy hair and bucked teeth. This attitude starts to change in her fourth year of Hogwarts when Viktor Krum asks her to the Yule Ball. It’s the first time that she’s properly dressed up and she gains a lot of confidence from this event. It takes her quite a while to admit to her feelings for Ron but the fact that she gets extremely jealous when he goes out with Lavender clearly shows how she feels for him.

    Abilities:
Well, Hermione is a very, very talented witch! Among her classmates she was usually the first one to learn new spells when they were taught to them. It’s also been said that among the trio she’s the best with charms and has often gotten them out of tight situations with quickly thought out and executed spells. She can cast spells with her mind with great ease, without having to say the spell out loud. Since she’s a seventh year at Hogwarts she probably knows most of the more advanced spells as well as the more basic ones of course. A full list of spells can be found here

As mentioned above Hermione is very logical and intelligent so I suppose it could be said that her greatest ability is her mind and her quickness to use it and come up with logical solutions to any problems that she might face.

    Writing sample:
Hermione sits just outside Shell Cottage looking out towards the sea. Everything looks so peaceful, she relaxing here she’s tempted just to forget about everything else and stay here with Bill and Fleur for a while. Of course, she can’t do that. Not now. Looking out at the perfect view it’s hard to believe what had happened to all of them only a few days ago at Malfoy Manor. Getting chased through the forest, being tortured by Bellatrix, Dobby….

She shakes her head trying to think about Dobby too much. He had proven himself to be a friend to them all and without him she’s not sure that they would have managed to get out of their alive. They owe their lives to him and yet he was the one who lost his. She sighs, picking a strand of grass from in front of her and playing with it between her fingers. Of course he eyes are drawn to that word on her wrist. That word that will always be there as a reminder of what Bellatrix had done to her: ‘mudblood’. Instead of being ashamed or hurt she is neither of those things. She is going to wear this mark with pride. She’s not ashamed of having Muggle parents and why should she be?

She hears a voice calling her from the direction of the house and she sees Ron walking towards her, “We’re going in to talk to the goblin. About the vault in Gringots I know you…are you okay?” Hermione smiles ever so slightly as she gets up and walks towards the house with Ron, “Of course I’m okay, Ronald. Why wouldn’t I be? Come on, let’s go and talk to Griphook.”

And so it all starts again. She’s really starting to wonder if this will ever end…

    Version: V1
Canon point: Conclusion of the series.
Importing development from old game? Yes, from [community profile] 3step_paradise; he has been there since August 2012.
    Background: http://rangerwiki.net/index.php?title=Dale

Changes from canon, if AU: Dale has only been in Paradise a short time, but the nature of his surroundings being riddled with war and death, has caused him to evaluate his role more, as a Ranger and as a whole. When he arrived the city was generally lawless, with the remnants of the existing police force in hiding and functioning separately from the police station establishment which had been taken hostage as a torture chamber for the 'god' overseeing the city. Standing strong with his Ranger mentality at heart, he has found himself trying to fill Chip's shoes at times, and Gadget's as well, in being brave and resourceful for his new allies and friends. Dale hasn't been afforded too much time to be his own goofy self but it peeks through often, in an effort to cheer his allies and give them companionship, between battles that he chooses to engage in to assist his friends and provide a distraction (just about all he is capable of). He has become the unofficial teddy bear of Paradise.

Personality: As a Rescue Ranger, Dale is the wild card of the lineup. For the most part he is a doer and will gladly help his teammates in the plan of action. He chooses to remain lighthearted on the majority of cases to keep his team in high spirits, and the strangeness of the cases the Rangers have faced in the past are outrageous enough to warrant a sense of humor. He often waits until the team has fallen into a dire situation before springing a plan of action, and this will often be just unpredictable and crazy enough to work. While the show would portray Dale's mental faculties to be lacking, I have bought into a fan theory that he simply enjoys goofing around and feigning ignorance to crack a smile on the faces of his companions (more often than not this lands him a crack on the skull from Chip). He especially likes employing 'tactics' he has learned from comic books and emulating his favorite heroes.

As a character, Dale is Chip's best friend, and the familiarity in which Dale disposes pet names to him would indicate that he could also be a sibling, too. He is a hyperactive specimen of a chipmunk, eager to please his teammates and especially eager to shower his fellow teammate Gadget with affections. He is more vocal and outwardly emotional than Chip. His tail is constantly moving and he chipmunk chatters when he is nervous, excited, or cheerful. If he was a superhero he would be the lovable sidekick. He enjoys loud music, sitting in front of the tube, and reading his favorite comic book series. He is especially fond of chocolate and peanuts (feed him a peanut butter cup and he will probably follow you around all day). A bonk on the head can make him a little forgetful but his friendliness more than makes up for any lost ground. He is a kind hearted fellow who loves to have fun and spend time with other people who enjoy having fun.

Abilities: Standard chipmunk abilities include a keen sense of smell and hearing, as well as the ability to climb any surface that he can hold onto. He can leap farther than a human being can for his size and if he drops to his fours, he can really move. Sometimes he opts for two legs but it is more like a waddle when he moves and is quite silly looking. Other than these abilities he is rather average, but he will use his abilities to help someone who appears to be in need.

Writing sample: At long last, they were alone together. Dale had been away on Ranger duty well into the twilight and the relief was evident on his face that she was missed. She found herself caught in Dale's embrace, his tail wagging all the while. The joy melted her to her core. To her delight, he began to unwrap her one article of clothing at a time. He was ecstatic as their gazes met, swimming deeply into mutual warmth in each other's company, and irresistably she could not seem to help reflecting his own eagerness back at him. An especially adorable nuzzle came from Dale in the form of an eskimo kiss, and he drank in her sweet fragrance. They had released themselves from their dayclothes and were truly happy. They met in bare velvety touch, finally they could reap the rewards of their love...

Suddenly Chip was standing there in the doorway. The rapturous gazes Dale and her had exchanged were ripped from them. She was silent, Dale was stunned, and Chip blinked briefly, unable to place his emotions for a moment. The ambience of the room shifted immediately to Chip's riotous laughing. "Came in here to get some sugar, eh Dale?" Chip was doubled over in uncontrollable amusement. Dale in his nightclothes had unraveled a bar of Almond Joy and was now clutching onto Joy very protectively. "What? I was hungry." With that he tucked the bar away, later precious little bar of Joy!

    Voice sample:
Exhibit A: A thread between Dale and the RED Spy (Double Cross; there were two spies in Paradise at this time.) Fairly self explanatory, and in my opinion an extremely adorable thread.
Exhibit B: A thread involving Dale and Lambda (Tales series), as well as Edward Elric and Shadow (City of Heroes OC). Lambda is looking for his and Dale's friend when they encounter soldiers of the enemy. Lambda has uncontrollable powers and while Dale is trying to protect him becomes injured himself.
Exhibit C: Dale arrives at a local resistance meeting the police force and other parties are participating in. Dale received a super suit from a friend and wants to prove himself to others. A thread with Edward Elric.
