WHAT TO KNOW |
Applications are ALWAYS OPEN, and will be processed as they are received. They must be posted in the comments, NOT linked to. Before applying, read the rules & setting page and this post in their entirety. Use the potential applications page or the FAQ if you have any questions about the process. There is also a sample app and an explanation of how we process apps if those interest you. The wanted characters list may also be helpful. In general, however, we would rather have a shorter, better written application than a longer one, every time. That said, length is one of the least important factors in our applications. We look primarily at the voice samples, then the personality section and writing sample. The voice samples are by far the most important section, and we prefer that these be thread links, because they give us a sense of how you play the character rather than simply how you write an application for the character. The application page from the former site can be found here. |

MISC. RULES |
We do allow challenge apps, but we wait the duration of the reserve for the other app to come in before processing them against each other. Applications or parts of applications (such as the initial comment containing contact information) will be screened on request. There is a one week grace period for dropped characters during which applications for them will be held pending. The former player can choose to pick up those characters at any time during that week without re-applying. If you are asked for a revision, you have one week to submit them before your app will be automatically declined. You must resubmit your app in its entirety if that happens. Always feel free to ask us to clarify what we're looking for on revisions; we won't bite. If you are rejected, we encourage you to re-apply. We like seeing players that have taken our critique and worked on improving their portrayal. The exception is a character rejected on the grounds that they would be difficult to impossible for others to play with. Playability is an important factor. Our plagiarism policy is as follows: the first offense will be met without consequence. The second offense results in a one month ban from apping. Subsequent further offenses will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis but most likely incur longer bans, up to and including indefinite bans. |

APPLICATION IN DETAIL |
Your name: Your journal: A sock is fine, or a commonly used character journal if you don't have a personal one. Just please be consistent with your identity for ease of reference. Contact: AIM/plurk/email/etc., whatever you prefer to be contacted. Other characters played at Passing: Character name: Character fandom: Version: V1, V1.# or V2+ should be the only options. Canon point: What point of their timeline you're taking them from. Importing development from old game? If yes, where from? Background: Link to the Wiki entry on it, or if the series has its own wiki, the character's page. A comprehensive fan site is an acceptable substitute. If you cannot find one of these that works well enough for us to get a good grasp of your character from a third party, please write out the standard 'history' section for this on your own. Please include this even if applying for an AU version of the character. OCs need the history section written out as well, obviously. In general, though, this should be a link whenever possible and not a written history. We use it to compare an unbiased third party account against your represented version of the character. If you include a written history, we will ignore it completely and look up whatever is available for that character on Wikipedia ourselves. Changes from canon, if AU: What it says. Detail here how the AU world is different from canon, or what events have happened in their previous game that have lead them to be different. Personality: The meat of the application, and self-explanatory. We want to see that you understand what makes them tick. If AU, try to include explanation for where and why the character has changed from canon. Abilities: What are they particularly good at, or if they do have superhuman powers, what are they? A bullet point list will suffice. Writing sample: At least 200 words of your own writing in third person prose, preferably about the character you're applying for. Samples about others are allowed, in any setting. This is to gauge your writing style and technique, not your grasp of character. That's the next section. Voice sample: You may either write 200 words of your character speaking to himself, or you may link to threads, or you may request to thread with a mod character. Regular voice sample: If choosing option one, the standard first person sample rules apply. The word count applies only to spoken words, not action in brackets, and since 200 words is a lot for some quiet characters, more than one different samples are allowed. Linking to threads: If you are linking to threads, make sure they are lengthy ones that demonstrate your understanding of the character. We don't need a million of them, but remember that this is as a substitute for a sample, and we will evaluate it the same way. Threads that took place in other games, museboxes, or ![]() Threading with a mod character: You may also request to thread with a mod character - please do so in the body of your application when you submit it, rather than contacting a mod privately. The first available mod will respond back as soon as possible and discuss with you who your character would be best suited to play off of of their characters, and then you will agree on a time to sit down and crack out a thread. These will be 'quick log' style in brackets and not prose to make them go faster and keep the focus on dialog. These do not have to be masterpieces of wonder, but your application will not be judged until you have finished the thread (at least 20 comments on your part), so think carefully before choosing this option. The mods will make every effort to respond to your tags quickly. |

Lor'themar Theron | Warcraft | V1.1?
Your journal: Miri
Contact: silverjade @ Plurk
Other characters played at Passing: Rufus ShinRa [V1] , Sephiroth [V2], Fuuma Monou [V1]
Character name: Lor'themar Theron
Character fandom: Warcraft
Version: V1.1?
Canon point: Cataclysm, Pre-Deathwing's Fall / Pre-Mists of Pandaria
Importing development from old game? N/A
Background: I am the regent lord. Not the king.
Changes from canon, if AU: I don't know if this applies to the AU qualifications or not, but I plan to have Sylvanas Windrunner turn on the living world and thus turn her people against it. Her first target will be the land that Lor'themar oversees along with all the land surrounding it, save for that held by the Argent Crusade.
Personality:
If there is anything which can be stated about Lor'themar, it is that he is dedicated to his people and his land. Be it as a Farstrider and guardian of the Sunwell, or as their Regent Lord. He cares deeply about their race and the land they call home, so much that it can force him to do things which pain him with guilt after the fact. This love of his for his people can also allow others to in essence twist his arm to get him to agree things that he would otherwise refuse to do, for the sake of those people.
When Kael'thas charged him with leading their people in their prince's absence, he took to the task with fierce determination, attempting to reclaim their lost land across the river while they waited for their prince to return. When he was faced with accepting aid from beings they distrusted and loathed, he eventually accepted it despite the division it caused because he knew that they could not do what was needed alone. This unfortunately forced him to make another decision which haunts him to this day, exiling part of their race outside of their lands because they hated this new alliance with the undead that looked so much like the scourge which had killed so many of them in the Third war.
These decisions were only the beginnings of the hard road ahead, some of the decisions he had to make would even place strain on his friendships, considering the two could not see eye-to-eye on some of the issues which came up. Yet all that came before was nothing compared to the betrayal that came down upon them when their prince returned and proceeded to attack them and rob them of two rather important beings in order to summon a demon which would if actually brought into their world, destroy them and their world.
Having to turn on the very man most had believed would save them was a hard and extremely painful task, the wound of which has yet to heal. Also it remains a haunting lesson to the man on how dangerous it can be for someone to give in to the thought that the ends justify the means. Yes, certain actions might aid their people, but at what cost? This is something he has to weigh silently when making his decisions. To this end, one could compare the love their prince, Kael'thas, once held for his people to the love Lor'themar holds and find them scarily similar. Fortunately, Lor'themar now has a clear example of what can happen if one allows themselves to go too far in the goal to restore their people and bring them back to the heights they once enjoyed.
Abilities:
-He is a Farstrider, a basic summary of the Farstriders follows thus:
Farstriders are all blood elves. Furthermore, every one is a ranger of some sort. While the rare Farstrider may focus on roguish pursuits, the faction is entirely combat-related, and even their rogues are deadly with a bow. Or without, for that matter. Joining the Farstriders is no mean task. You must go through an extensive trial period, testing your archery skills as well as your survival and stealth skills. No Farstrider is truly a greenhorn, though. To become a Farstrider, a character must have excellent stealth and survival skills and at least some training as a ranger. A newly inducted ranger receives extensive training in guerilla tactics, as well as lessons in anatomy. Senior members are killing machines. They can put an arrow through a goblin’s heart at 500 paces and not even break a sweat. Most senior Farstriders have killed more beasts than any soldier in the blood elf military. They make Defias assassins look like babies.
-In-Game abilities:
Cleave - 110% weapon damage to up to three targets.
Arcane Shock - 23125 to 26875 arcane damage, reflectable, 20 yard range
Mana Burn -11875 to 13125 mana burned, 2 damage for each mana burned, 30 yard range
Mass Charm - 15 second charm, 50 yard radius around Lor'themar.
-In obvious addition to his martial prowess, Lor'themar does know and can practice magic (as is per the norm for his race), his in-game abilities even show this and it is said that the Farstriders were known to use spells to entangle and ensnare some of their targets.
Writing sample:
To those familiar with the rebuilt Silvermoon Palace, the room in which the dream opens up into would be rather familiar. It's the throne room, a short trip away from another room in which a softly glowing rose colored orb resides. The instrument of the the Dark Lady's act of betrayal upon the sin'dorei. Bodies littered the floor, blood from them adding yet another shade of red to it. Guards dressed in gold and scarlet lay collapsed just feet from the trio they had failed to protect. Two others, one mostly clad in blue leathers and the second in scarlet and golden cloth lay unmoving on the ground as well.
The final and third form was currently making his slow way up towards that accursed orb with every intent on shutting it down, even if he had to shatter it to do so. Those responsible for this atrocity had left, after apparently considering him done for and while he could feel the poisons working their way through his bloodstream, he knew if he could just manage to get the orb shut down and make it a few minutes longer... help would arrive and their priest and/or even their blood knights would be able to set him and both of his friends to right.
So far that goal was looking viable, he'd made it to the doorway of the room containing the orb. But it was as if something refused to allow him to escape, and someone dark-clad appeared suddenly before him. Only an naive fool would for a moment even toy with the idea that the woman before him wasn't responsible for tonight's events, considering the nature of their attackers. Despite knowing he was in no fit condition to face off with her, he still forced himself to straighten up and heft the sword he'd brought with him into a defensive position.

/excuse the wrong journal ...tis Miri
But basically, things change.
In the game, Cataclysm, Sylvanas has launched an aggressive attack into the regions of Lordaeron and the greater Eastern Kingdoms not directly under her control, in an attempt to remove all hostile presences from the continent and secure it for the Forsaken.
Sylvanas is seeing the Forsaken as more her people than the elves in Quel'Thalas are, imo. Thus it isn't hard for me to see the possibility that everything living might end up being seen as a 'hostile' presence. After all, part of elves in Quel'Thalas still don't much care for the forsaken despite being allied with them. All it would take is for enough of that distrust and displeasure to reach her again and again, and considering she's already getting crap from the Orcs and other races for their actions at Wrathgate. I could see the 'everyone is now against us' mentality coming to light in a manner of speaking.
Also one can say the forsaken are a (forgive the unintentional pun) dead race, in that they can not reproduce, the only way to create new Forsaken is to use one of the Val'kyr to raise a corpse into a Forsaken.. so she could even raise the elves she killed as part of the Forsaken, which would give her that much more of a wall between her and the darkness she found when she actually died.. a maddening darkness.
thought of another thing
If she actually cared about the people and the land the way she might have used to once.. I don't think she would have pulled such an obviously crass move like that. She knew that they can't stand up against the undead still holding those lands at that time and still threatened to pull out all her people and let the elves there get slaughtered pretty much if Lor'themar didn't give her her way... not the most caring of actions imo..
