WHAT TO KNOW
Applications are ALWAYS OPEN, and will be processed as they are received. They must be posted in the comments, NOT linked to.

Before applying, read the rules & setting page and this post in their entirety. Use the potential applications page or the FAQ if you have any questions about the process. There is also a sample app and an explanation of how we process apps if those interest you. The wanted characters list may also be helpful.

In general, however, we would rather have a shorter, better written application than a longer one, every time. That said, length is one of the least important factors in our applications. We look primarily at the voice samples, then the personality section and writing sample. The voice samples are by far the most important section, and we prefer that these be thread links, because they give us a sense of how you play the character rather than simply how you write an application for the character.

The application page from the former site can be found here.

MISC. RULES
We do allow challenge apps, but we wait the duration of the reserve for the other app to come in before processing them against each other.

Applications or parts of applications (such as the initial comment containing contact information) will be screened on request.

There is a one week grace period for dropped characters during which applications for them will be held pending. The former player can choose to pick up those characters at any time during that week without re-applying.

If you are asked for a revision, you have one week to submit them before your app will be automatically declined. You must resubmit your app in its entirety if that happens. Always feel free to ask us to clarify what we're looking for on revisions; we won't bite.

If you are rejected, we encourage you to re-apply. We like seeing players that have taken our critique and worked on improving their portrayal. The exception is a character rejected on the grounds that they would be difficult to impossible for others to play with. Playability is an important factor.

Our plagiarism policy is as follows: the first offense will be met without consequence. The second offense results in a one month ban from apping. Subsequent further offenses will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis but most likely incur longer bans, up to and including indefinite bans.

APPLICATION IN DETAIL
Your name:
Your journal: A sock is fine, or a commonly used character journal if you don't have a personal one. Just please be consistent with your identity for ease of reference.
Contact: AIM/plurk/email/etc., whatever you prefer to be contacted.
Other characters played at Passing:

Character name:
Character fandom:
Version: V1, V1.# or V2+ should be the only options.
Canon point: What point of their timeline you're taking them from.
Importing development from old game? If yes, where from?
Background: Link to the Wiki entry on it, or if the series has its own wiki, the character's page. A comprehensive fan site is an acceptable substitute. If you cannot find one of these that works well enough for us to get a good grasp of your character from a third party, please write out the standard 'history' section for this on your own. Please include this even if applying for an AU version of the character. OCs need the history section written out as well, obviously.

In general, though, this should be a link whenever possible and not a written history. We use it to compare an unbiased third party account against your represented version of the character. If you include a written history, we will ignore it completely and look up whatever is available for that character on Wikipedia ourselves.

Changes from canon, if AU: What it says. Detail here how the AU world is different from canon, or what events have happened in their previous game that have lead them to be different.

Personality: The meat of the application, and self-explanatory. We want to see that you understand what makes them tick. If AU, try to include explanation for where and why the character has changed from canon.

Abilities: What are they particularly good at, or if they do have superhuman powers, what are they? A bullet point list will suffice.

Writing sample: At least 200 words of your own writing in third person prose, preferably about the character you're applying for. Samples about others are allowed, in any setting. This is to gauge your writing style and technique, not your grasp of character. That's the next section.

Voice sample: You may either write 200 words of your character speaking to himself, or you may link to threads, or you may request to thread with a mod character.

Regular voice sample: If choosing option one, the standard first person sample rules apply. The word count applies only to spoken words, not action in brackets, and since 200 words is a lot for some quiet characters, more than one different samples are allowed.

Linking to threads: If you are linking to threads, make sure they are lengthy ones that demonstrate your understanding of the character. We don't need a million of them, but remember that this is as a substitute for a sample, and we will evaluate it the same way. Threads that took place in other games, museboxes, or [community profile] dear_mun are all fine.

Threading with a mod character: You may also request to thread with a mod character - please do so in the body of your application when you submit it, rather than contacting a mod privately. The first available mod will respond back as soon as possible and discuss with you who your character would be best suited to play off of of their characters, and then you will agree on a time to sit down and crack out a thread.

These will be 'quick log' style in brackets and not prose to make them go faster and keep the focus on dialog. These do not have to be masterpieces of wonder, but your application will not be judged until you have finished the thread (at least 20 comments on your part), so think carefully before choosing this option. The mods will make every effort to respond to your tags quickly.

Character name: Minako 'Mina' Aino
Character fandom: Sailor Moon
Version: V2
Canon point: Mina is age 20, so 2~4 years post canon (depending on how old one thinks they were in those final pages).
Importing development from old game? N/A
Background: wikimoon article and moonwiki article

Changes from canon, if AU: This is a depressing AU Minako. Personality wise, she's a mix of anime and manga, but her story is purely manga-based.

In the fight against the Dead Moon, Minako lost her ability to transform. Desperate to prove herself as a leader and regain her powers, Minako willingly and knowingly heads for an enemy trap in the form of idol auditions. She fails miserably, but Artemis comes to her rescue. In the manga, he survives when attacked by the enemy as he saves Minako - but here, he doesn't. Minako nearly loses her life and the other Senshi arrive barely in time to save her. It's a disaster.

Minako is crushed by the loss of her guardian and best friend, and even moreso by the fact that without Artemis, she never claims her Sailor Crystal. She can't transform. She's no longer a Sailor Senshi.

So she leaves, ashamed and depressed, and pursues her dream of being a global superstar. She even makes it, a household name all across the world. But she isn't happy, not really. She barely speaks to the other Senshi anymore; she feels alone and powerless. She covers up how messed up her life has become with high-maintenance living, glib jokes, easy smiles. Also, lots and lots of casual sex.

Personality: Once upon a time, Minako was a carefree girl. Ditzy, flaky, unreliable, excitable, cheerful, not particularly smart, and a show off when it came to her physical prowess in gym and her favorite sport, volleyball. She also was obsessed with idols and becoming one along with being absolutely boy crazy, falling in love with a new boy each week and being completely nosy and intrusive in the love lives of others. Those traits didn't disappear, but they certainly retreated when Minako became Sailor V, and ultimately Sailor Venus. Then, her true strength could show: determination, fierce loyalty, practicality, resourcefulness, and a deep well of emotional strength in the face of adversity. Sailor Venus was a deeply loyal guardian of Sailor Moon, giving up her huge and lofty dreams of fame and true love without fuss or ceremony to adhere to her duty as protector, a duty she takes VERY seriously under her bubbly exterior.

So seriously, in fact, that when she lost the ability to transform...she panicked. She puts a lot more pride into being a Senshi than she's willing to admit, even to herself, since she flew into that trap out of shame as much as desperation. Shame is what also makes her leave the Senshi when Artemis dies and she loses the ability to transform...possibly permanently.

Now Mina's bubbly personality is only skin-deep, as she harbors much shame, guilt, and grief over the loss of Artemis, her powers, her duty and destiny, and her friends.

Abilities: singing? acting? hand-to-hand combat? high athletic/gymnastic ability? NO SAILOR POWERS?

Writing sample:

The politician's suit reeks of bad cigars and cheap sex, which he most certainly would NOT be getting from Mina tonight. Though their arms are linked politely to denote her being his 'date' for the evening, she holds onto him as lightly as possible, not wanting his stink to infest her evening gloves too badly. Despite her mild revulsion, Mina is first and foremost an actress, so she smiles brilliantly and manages to convince everyone how much she wants to be here, and with this gentleman in particular.

The party itself is as decadent as to be expected of a Viennese charity affair - Roccoco fabrics everywhere and lavish platters of food, beautiful flower arrangements and dozens of the city's wealthiest in their newest and finest formalwear. Mina makes the rounds with the politician as expected of polite company, and excuses herself to say hello to some acquaintances as soon as she's able. She didn't realize she was holding her breath slightly until she was away from him and gulped down some fresher air.

Mina is dressed as impeccably as always. She never wears much makeup or jewelry, or any fashion that's 'busy' - it would take away from her spectacular beauty, which is to her benefit in every way to subtly flaunt, not diminish. It's also to her benefit to not cause any drama or gossip, so she returns often to the politician so he should not feel neglected nor any other party-goers start talking.

All the while, as she adjusts her gloves and poses for the occasional photographer, Mina's eyes rove the room to find someone she'd actually like to invite back to her hotel room tonight. She knows the politician's manners are too good to insist, as much as he might want or even expect it, and she knows how to be discreet. Plus, being attracted to just about anybody has advantages; it all comes down to what she's in the mood for.

Once she finds it...full seduction. Gazing at them meaningfully with those sparkling blue eyes from under long, full lashes; golden hair and ruby red lips... Who could ever resist?

Few do.

Being the Goddess of Love and Beauty certainly has its delightful little perks.

Character name: Rei Hino/Sailormars
Character fandom: Sailormoon
Version: V1
Canon point: Post Stars arc
Importing development from old game?
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_Mars#Profile

Changes from canon, if AU: N/A

Personality: It's kind of weird that the soldier of fire and passion would be such a bitchy ice queen at first glance. One would think that the soldier of the planet of war would be fiery and spirited, not a demure, quiet spiritual girl with few friends. But Rei is the sum of all of her parts, as most people are. Yes, she's quiet, a perfect, ideal Japanese lady, beautiful and reserved, but Rei is an emotional being, able to tease and joke with her friends. Rei is not the fire burning ever bright, crackling and popping -- she is the slumbering coals, cool on the outside but burning deep, and like coals, when stirred, she can flare up.

When you meet Rei, she comes across as hesitant and snobbish. She keeps people at arm's length at best, and completely isolates herself at worst. People aren't to be trusted, and men in particular are the least trustworthy of the lot. This dislike is rooted in Rei's contempt for her father, a politician who was never around in Rei's childhood. Rei's mother, frail of body and spirit, died of loneliness in Rei's eyes. Her relationship with her father was, to put it nicely, strained after the death of her mother. The pair of them rarely got along as it was, and Rei went to go live with her maternal grandfather at the Hikawa Jinja.

At the shrine, Rei learned to hone her psychic powers, which alienated her from her peer group. Sure, people thought she was elegant and beautiful, but they also thought it was freakish and weird that should read fortunes, and talked to a pair of crows as though they understood her. And Rei was fine with that image. After all, it's easier to be alone, isn't it? Still, after meeting Usagi and awakening to her destiny, Rei has learned to warm up to people, somewhat. She's still fairly reticent and standoffish to the people she doesn't know, but to her friends, she's the emotional voice of reason, unafraid to tell her friends whats on her mind.

When you become Rei's friend, you've become it for life. Rei is very much the type to jump in and defend her friends, often being a little bit bossy or a bully because of it. Harm her friends, and her normal, hard to invoke temper flares considerably, and she will do her best to singe you with either words or her powers. Rei isn't afraid of making enemies, and she also doesn't much care what people think of her, for the most part. Words hurt, of course -- being accused of spiriting away children because you're the local psychic girl would chip at anyone's self esteem, but Rei is usually able to let insults and praise slide off her back. She's only needed herself for sixteen years of her life, and now she only needs Usagi, Minako, Makoto and Ami. It may seem silly, but Rei's friendship with these girls does partly define who she is.

Who she is, is elegant and refined. Rei doesn't like making a spectacle of herself. Being in the spotlight is something she isn't comfortable with, and she absolutely detests singing in any form, even if bribed with paopu ice cream. Her hobbies tend to sit firmly in the traditional range, and she's quit good at Japanese calligraphy. She takes her duties as a miko quite seriously, and this could also be why she doesn't see the need to find a boyfriend or get married. Rei dreams of being able to take over her grandfather's shrine someday (though she knows that ultimately that dream is futile -- Rei will live her life for her Princess and no one else, when it comes down to it). Popular at school for her beauty, girls want to be like her and boys want to be with her, though none of them know the true Rei.

All they get to see is the ash on the outside of the coals, while the fire slumbers within.

Abilities: Fortune Telling/Psychic Ability/ESP- Rei has Extra Sensory Perception, and as a result, has a pretty good 'sixth sense' about things. She can read auras, tell fortunes, and can tell when a person has a good or bad 'vibe'. Rei can also read fire, and is able to perform the Kuji-Goshin-Ho, a ritual that can dispel evil spirits.

Sailor Soldier- Rei is a Sailor Soldier, a celestial warrior tasked with protecting the Princess of the Moon, Serenity. As the chosen soldier of Mars, Rei wields power over fire, and can cast various attacks reflecting both her spiritual heritage and her element. In order to transform, Rei must use her Mars Crystal while shouting her transformation phrase (Mars Crystal Power, Make Up) in order to transform.

Archery- As a Shinto Priestess, Rei is skilled in the art of Kyudo, a form of archery found in Japan. Hand her a bow and arrow, and she can pick a fly off someone's shoulder from sixty paces.

Writing sample: The fire always told her when something was wrong. Rei rarely felt like she relied a little too much on the sacred flame in the Hikawa Jinja; in fact, it had almost a calming effect for her. After their fight with Galaxia, and being reborn in the Galaxy Cauldron, Rei had sought solace within the room of the fire, meditating and praying to the kami. The world was finally at peace, she could continue her life as a miko and a high school girl, and spend time with her friends that wasn't clouded by the need to transform into a soldier.

This night wasn't any different than the last few had been (or, at least, it had started out that way). The sun had set, the shrine closed to the public for the day, and after helping her grandfather with dinner, Rei had gone to the one place in her home where she always felt at peace, no matter what was happening. The fire greeted her as it always did, crackling gently within it's hearth. Rei smiled slightly, one of the few times she ever did outside of her friends, and knelt before the flame, linking her fingers together in their proper position for meditation. Rei closed her eyes and took a deep breath, mentally going through the meditation ritual she had been practicing since she was a small girl, going through her prayers for herself and her friends.

But something felt off. Rei opened her eyes, and gasped slightly as she saw the flame spark violently, a loud crack echoing through the room. There was a distant sound of cawing; Phobos and Deimos were clearly agitated by something, and Rei turned standing up as she did so. She was hesitant as she walked towards the door, an aura of 'wrong' nearly suffocating her, and when she finally threw open the rice paper door, it rolled in on her like a wave.

The sky was black. Not the black of night, or the black of a storm (though the humidity in the air certainly foretold one of those). Pitch black. There was something coming, and it wasn't good. Rei bolted out of the shrine, and stood at the stop of the stairway to the road, staring in horror as.. things began to drop from the sky. They reminded her a little of ants, with giant yellow eyes, though they were much bigger and more dangerous. A couple attempted to swarm her -- she beat them back with her ofuda, and took off towards Usagi's home, her only instinct to protect her princess.

The ofuda were effective, but not enough. Rei raised her hand to the sky and transformed, but for every one of the monsters she set aflame, six more appeared to combat her.

She made it to Usagi's front door before she collapsed under a swarm, her hand reaching out to the front door that she could see but not reach. She'd failed her princess. She'd failed the Earth. The Darkness had returned, and there was nothing she could do to stop it. Letting out an anguished cry, Rei unwillingly succumbed to the darkness.

Maybe it was hours. Maybe it was moments. Rei wasn't entirely sure, but when she woke up, the first word off her lips was Usagi's name. She had de-transformed at some point, and she was lying in a heap on a cobblestone road, with buildings she'd never seen before in any of her lives. There was a strange noise next to her left ear, and Rei jumped, whipping out an ofuda and slapping it to the creature's forehead before it could do anything else.

"K-Kupo!!" The noise came again from behind her, and Rei whirled around, another ofuda at the ready.

"Stop that, kupo! Mogri didn't mean to scare you! Here, take this."

The thing, whatever it was, handed Rei a communicator, a small vein popping out of its forehead.

"What--" Rei was interuppted before she could finish, the moogle that was speaking to her flitting around in front of her.

"You're in Traverse Town, kupo! Talk to the people on that, they'll explain."

With that, it picked up it's friend and flew off, Rei staring after it in what could only be described as befuddlement. She glanced down at the communicator, and then around at her surroundings.

Why was peace always broken for them? Willing her heart to keep from breaking, Rei took a deep breath and switched the communicator on.

"My name is Rei. I've been told that by talking to you, I'll get an explanation as to what's going on."

Character fandom: Sailor Moon
Version: V1
Canon point: End of Manga.
Importing development from old game? n/a
Background: Here, and here!

Changes from canon, if AU: n/a

Personality:

Aino Minako is a girl on a mission.

As the first Senshi to be discovered at the tender age of 13, she takes her duties as the soldier of love and beauty, Sailor Venus, very seriously. She is the leader of the four inner soldiers, whose sworn duty is to protect Sailor Moon at all costs. She has no problem laying her life down for her Princess, and has done so several times. She won't hesitate to leave anyone behind when there's a chance to save everyone, but she also knows when to be realistic when it's not possibly to save them. She takes her duty so seriously that she goes as far as impersonating Princess Serenity to protect the real princess. One thing that stands out about her is her bravery. She's willing to risk it all to save her princess. She risked her name, her life, and sought out every possible way to keep her princess safe. She thinks and acts like most of the inner senshi - with a positive attitude of sticking together. Duty above everything else is her motto.

When she's not fighting for love and justice, Minako is your normal girl with a tad bit more energy than one might prefer. Minako is the most outgoing of the group, and possibly the most friendliest. Her reaction to even strangers is positive, even to enemies in disguise. Seriously, if they're cute enough, she's even date them. Some might think she's shallow, but she's not. She's a carefree girl with a positive attitude. She tries to see the good and fun in life, and she tries to not think negatively about things. She's a "glass half full" kind of girl. Many might also consider her a ditz and a spaz. She daydreams about boys, falls over, tries to be of use but fails at it completely. Deep down, however, she has a heart of gold. She always tries to help her friends, whether they need cheering up when they're sad, or nursing them back to health when they're sick. She's also known for messing up popular sayings, reversing the meaning and completely giving the wrong advice. Thankfully, her friends are there to help her. Notably, Minako is a hopeless romantic. As the self-proclaimed "Goddess of Love," Minako is always trying to find her true love, though she knows she won't. Her true love is to her princess. It still wouldn't hurt to be able to share something with a really hot guy though!

Minako's ultimate dream, however, is to be a singing idol. She wants to have her name in lights, to have people fangirling over her like she fangirls over celebrities. She has the latest celebrity gossip before everyone, and she'll be the one who will get really close to them before realizing it's better to be afar. She still know though that her duty to the Princess is foremost, and she loves doing both. She'd still be happy to give up her dream if it means she'll still be able to save the world.

Abilities:

Transformation: Minako is a Sailor Soldier, whom during the time of the Silver Millennium, was the princess of her chosen planet tasked with protecting the Princess of the Moon, Serenity. As the chosen soldier of Venus, Minako wields power over love and metal, and can cast various attacks reflecting those elements. In order to transform, Minako must use her Venus Crystal while shouting her transformation phrase "Venus Crystal Power, Make Up" in order to transform.

Combat: As a sailor soldier, Minako is capable of hand-to-hand combat. She is also able to use swords, though her main weapon is her Wink Chain, which she keeps wrapped around her waist in combat.

Senshi Abilities: Senshi possess the ability to sense nearby enemies, resistance (not immunity) from brainwashing or sleep spells or any other mental attack. As the senshi of Love, Minako has a very strong sense of it about her. The Senshi also have a psychic connection between them.

Senshi Powers: These are specific powers that Sailor Venus alone controls. Her current go-tos are Crescent Beam, Venus Love-Me Chain, and Venus Love and Beauty Shock, but she has others at her disposal.

Sailor Teleport: This lets the senshi teleport together. It is used by Mercury, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus when they combine their powers.

Compact Mirror: Shaped like a Crescent Moon, it is used much like Usagi's Disguise Pen. Shouting "Crescent Moon Power, Transform!" she can transform into any disguise she wants. The compact mirror must also be charged in the moonlight.

It is also noted that Minako likes to sing. Her dream is to be an idol, after all!

Writing sample:

It was Artemis who first noticed something was wrong.

Minako had been watching television - one of her favorite idols had been performing, and she absolutely had to watch it or she was going to die - and midway through the performance, Artemis shot up, eyes going to the window. The night seemed darker than before. He tried to get Minako to pay attention, but it was no use.

Three-fourths through the program was when Minako noticed it. Keeping her eyes on the window, she reached over to turn off the television. She couldn't see the moon, she couldn't see the stars. This wasn't normal darkness... something was out there. Something bad. Artemis bounded off the bed, following after Minako as she shot out of her room and out of her house, leaving her mother's protests behind her as the door slammed shut.

Her skin crawled, goosebumps flashing over her flesh. She felt this same way up at D-Point, when they were so close to the dark energy pulsating from Metallia. Ducking away to hide, Minako transformed into Venus. It was better to be safe than sorry in this situation. That's when her opponents showed up. Small little things, beady yellow eyes. They were the only light in this darkness. A Crescent Beam lit up the path even more, but all the attack did was to push them back. Those that were pushed back were replaced with more.

A Love and Beauty Shock launched, Venus thinking that her most powerful attack would have an effect. The effects were just like her Crescent Beam. Eyes widening, Venus stood there. Nothing had happened. Why weren't their attacks working? What was going on? Venus took several steps back, then turned on her heels and ran. Pulling out her communicator mid-run, she tried calling the others.

"Everyone! Get to Usagi's- Artemis!"

Behind her, Artemis fell behind, disappearing into the darkness. Enraged, Minako let attacked with Love and Beauty Shock once more, desperate to save him, but it was no use. Biting back tears, she knew she had to get to Usagi, to the others. But there were so many of them, and they kept coming. If she couldn't get to her destination, she trusted that the others would, and that they'd get the Princess out and to safety. She was surrounded and she knew it.

She'd go down fighting, no matter what. It was the least she could do if she couldn't get to the others.

"Venus Love and Beauty-" And the darkness swarmed.

Canon point: Batman/Superman: Supergirl
Importing development from old game? Nope
Background: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Superman_(Clark_Kent) (I pity anyone who tries reading this)

Changes from canon, if AU: This is not AU

Personality:

Clark Kent is a man who was raised to believe that there is always a right and a wrong choice. His adoptive parents, the Kents, instilled him with a respect for life, liberty, and the ideals of the American Midwest. He adheres to an extremely strict code of conduct that's heavily influenced by the virtues of Ma and Pa Kent. He has a sense of righteousness and morality that even causes other heroes to pause. Clark's commitment to his code is so absolute that his closest friends have had tensions come up because they don't follow it to the letter all the time. His personal code involves always respecting the boundaries of life and freedom, as well as the laws put into place by the governments. He sees himself as having an obligation to uphold those laws, and his rigid adherance can make him come off as a bit stiff at times, earning him the nickname Big Blue Boy Scout.

Clark is an incredibly kind-hearted man who goes out of his way to help anyone who needs it. If a friend is in trouble, he'll do whatever is in his considerable power to make sure it's taken care of. He does this for total strangers, fellow heroes, and even some of his mortal enemies from time to time, because he sees himself as having a responsibility to use his gifts for right. He's shown throughout his comic series to be a good neighbor, a friendly and helpful citizen, and the very model of what a mild mannered, humble, Midwestern American should be. He works hard, rarely takes time for himself, and goes out of his way to be where he can do the most good for the most amount of people.

Clark, however, is also an extremely lonely individual. He was, for many years, thought to be the last survivor of Krypton. Even on Earth, surrounded by his loving wife Lois and his circle of friends, both hero and civilian alike, he is a alone. The people have placed Superman on a pedestal, and Clark drives himself to fulfill their expectations and earn the respect that he's given. Because of this he is extremely protective of Earth, his family, and the city of Metropolis in particular. It's worth noting that the arrival of Krypto, and Kara Zor-El has alleviated some of the loneliness a bit as it's given him other Kryptonian family (Quite literally so in Kara's case), and a loving pet (Krypto is a dog) who he can relate to a bit more. He feels a kinship with Conner Kent, Powergirl, and Mon-El, though the fact that they aren't truly Kryptonian lead to quite a bit of disappointment.

Clark's personality is also an extremely courageous one. He's the sort of man who will throw himself into danger for another person without a second thought. He wants to help, and he knows that the best way he can do it is by being the hero that the world expects him to be. It doesn't matter what threats come, from bank robbers to interstellar gods like Darkseid, Superman will be there to protect the people who need it.

Outside of these traits, Clark is a highly inquisitive man who's early life actually led him to become an investigative reporter before he really became the Earth's hero. He has a fascination with weather, perhaps due to his upbringing in Kansas, and has a particular fondness for tornadoes. Clark's a guy of big emotion, too. When he's happy, he's happy, and when he's sad, he's really sad. His emotions are usually fairly close to the surface, an observation that Lex Luthor has used to manipulate him fairly regularly. Clark doesn't get angry easily, and he generally is a reserved and restrained individual when it comes to expressing anger physically. He hates being percieved as a bully, and does his best to avoid abusing his fantastic powers. However, when Clark's temper actually does flare he goes to extreme measures, such as when Darkseid threatened Kara and Batman's life. Clark stopped holding back and utterly crushed the tyrant like a bug. He doesn't abide bullies, and Darkseid is one of the few individuals that Clark truly cannot stand. He does try and see the good in everyone but there are certain notable exceptions. Dangerous beings like Darkseid, Brainiac and Doomsday, or particularly sadistic individuals like the Joker and Granny Goodness are so far gone that Clark can't bring himself to help them. Lex Luthor is a strange exception, as the only being Clark has ever stated to truly hate. However, the two have worked together, demonstrating Clark's ability to put aside differences for the greater good of mankind.

To sum it all up: Clark Kent is a hero. He's good, and while his views are somewhat old fashioned, he holds to them like a man clinging to a liferaft. His code of conduct, his generosity, and his general kindness, and his black and white view of right and wrong set him apart from many people in his universe.

Abilities:

Clark Kent is...Superman. As such, he displays an incredibly broad array of abilities and powers. They are all related to his Kryptonian physiology, and he is commonly believed to be one of the most powerful beings in his entire universe. These powers all spring from his body absorbing the radiation of Earth's yellow sun. When he's had time to charge, even if it's just been for a moment then he gains access to these abilities. Without charging, his physiology reverts to that of a human with roughly his size and weight. For brevities sake, I'd ask you to refer to the wiki I linked in the background, and make note that the powers listed may not encompass everything because...well...he's Superman.

The powers are as follows:

Super Strength: Clark can lift truly prodigeous amounts of weight with little effort.

Super Speed: Clark is incredibly fast, capable of moving MUCH faster than light.

Invulnerability: Clark's body is nearly invunerable to harm, and he's capable of shrugging off enormous amounts of punishment without even a bruise.

Flight: Clark is capable of flight, tending to fly at around Mach 10 in the atmosphere, but he's able to move at full speed in the air.

Superhuman Senses: All his senses operate far, far beyond human average, often violating the laws of physics and allowing him to percieve the Electromagnetic spectrum, hear subsonics, see things that are microscopic, and he even possesses X-Ray vision (though this is stopped by lead).

Super Breath: Clark can create freezing gales with his breath, or hurricane force winds.

Heat Vision: Clark's eyes can project beams of heat so intense they melt most substances almost instantly. He rarely uses this power against living beings, as it's incredibly lethal.

Healing: Yellow sun radiation actively repairs any damage that Clark might have suffered rather quickly. He can heal from near fatal wounds within hours.

Unrelated powers

Clark is actually an incredibly brilliant thinker, possessing a high degree of investigative skill. He's an award-winning reporter, and he knows his way around a criminal investigation as well. His intellect is said to be higher than human norm, with genius level computational and analytical skills. He possesses a high degree of skill in hand to hand combat, having trained in martial arts with Batman, Wonder Woman, and Wildcat. He's known for having an incredibly strong force of will, enabling him to shrug off mental control from any being short of Darkseid (and even then only with extreme effort, and Clark broke free in hours).

Weaknesses

Clark has three clear and glaring weaknesses. The first and most well known is Kryptonite. That is to say the radioactive remains of the destroyed planet of Krypton. Kryptonite must come from his native reality to affect him (it doesn't work if it's from an alternate reality's Krypton canonically), and it comes in several different colors. Green Kryptonite is the most common, and it cuts through his invulnerability and even being in it's presence is poisonous. It's worth stating that Clark has overcome a lot of this weakness through sheer force of will. Other forms of Kryptonite have different effects, though most are so rare that Clark hasn't even encountered them.

The other major weakness Clark possesses is magic. It doesn't take away his powers, it just affects his body normally. That is to say that an enchanted sword would cut him just like it would anyone else. He's learned from his friend Zatanna how to counteract the effects of a wide variety of spells, and direct attack spells are still weakened by his Kryptonian invulnerability, but a clever or particularly skilled magical villain is a dangerous foe that Superman can't just ignore.

The radiation of a Red Sun, such as that of Krypton's sun, actually drains away Clark's Kryptonian powers, slowly but surely. If he's exposed to it for too long he loses those powers until he exposes himself to a yellow sun again.

Finally, Kryptonians themselves are shown in canon as being able to directly hurt one another. The Kryptonian physique seems to have limited ability to protect from beings of it's own sort, so enemies like Zod or even allies like Kara Zor-El can actually affect Clark more than usual.

Writing sample:
"Well boy," Clark said as he drifted lazily past the Daily Planet, “Looks like it’s all pretty quiet here.” From behind him, an agreeable doggy-sound chuffed in agreement, drawing a laugh from the big man. He spun, his cape flapping and drifted down towards the park, Krypto following close behind.

He floated gently over the lake, waving to a few kids who were playing Frisbee down in the grass, drawing smiles and a call of “Wooo! Hey Superman!” from one young girl. Clark grinned and floated on, basking in the summer afternoon heat. Metropolis was a nice place to be in the summer, he’d always felt, and it was days like this that made it all worth it.

A strange buzzing sound filled his ear, immediately drawing his attention. The sound of police sirens and an alarm immediately made him spin to face downtown Metropolis, and off he whizzed with a rush of air. It took him only a few seconds, but when he arrived on the scene he saw two men dashing out of a bank with sacks of cash and towards a getaway car. Faster than thought, Clark landed on the pavement in front of them, arms crossed disapprovingly.

“Crap,” one of them muttered, but they both dropped the bags and raised their hands, knowing that the jig was up. A few minutes later when the police arrived to take them away, Clark took off again, waving down to the officers.

“Just another ordinary day on the job,” he said to himself as he awoke, the idyllic dreamscape fading away.

Character name: Chibiusa Tsukino/Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity/Sailor Chibimoon
Character fandom: Sailor Moon
Version: canon
Canon point: early Stars (just as she leaves Crystal Tokyo)
Importing development from old game? no
Background: whoops

Personality: It's hard to talk about Chibiusa without mentioning Usagi. Chibiusa is often compared to her, being that they're mother and child. They are both extroverted, excitable, painfully optimistic and naive, child-like and chilish, believe in love and life and friendship, loved by everybody, gregarious...

The truth is, Chibiusa has an enormous inferiority complex regarding Usagi. Or, to be more specific, Usagi as she will be as Chibiusa's mother - Neo Queen Serenity. The queen who rules the world, the most powerful person in the universe, the most beautiful and graceful and beloved and feared in the universe. Chibiusa loves her mother as much as she is afraid of her, as much as she is in awe of her, for Chibiusa's mother is a living legend.

As much as Chibiusa wants to be like her mother, she is her own person. Unlike Usagi, Chibiusa is pretty intelligent and precocious, independent and often almost fearless. Her smarts occasionally results in bossiness, but for the most part she puts it to good use like schoolwork and being class representative. She's popular and has many friends in school.

Also unlike Usagi, Chibiusa has the capacity for hatred. Growing up for 900 years as lonely as she was has had that effect on her, and she's been shown to develop hatred for particularly cruel enemies. Thankfully, after her time as Black Lady and finding out the truth of how loved she is by her parents, Chibiusa started emotionally repairing herself with the love and support of her parents and their friends as they were in the twentieth century, when they were all young and more approachable.

At this time in the manga series, Chibiusa has fully come into her own. She fully believes in herself and her worth as an individual rather than just the daughter of the living legend Sailor Moon. She's also started becoming more centered, strong, and powerful. Having finally evolved her own Silver Crystal and discovering that she has her own Sailor Team, Chibiusa has all the wisdom and strength to be the true Senshi she's always dreamed of being.

Abilities: As Sailor Chibimoon, Chibiusa is able to use energy attacks. In previous Senshi forms, this required the use of a weapon, but her new main attack is pure energy. She has her own Ginzuishou (Silver Crystal), which is a physical form of ultimate energy, and bends to her will. (lawl god-mode) It can heal people, or be turned against evil to destroy by purifying.
Chibiusa is also very skilled at drawing, or any type of hands-on activity.

Writing sample:

It hadn't quite been what she had dreamed of.

Oh, returning to Crystal Tokyo had been amazing, there was no denying it - there had been parties and feasts and endless entertainment to welcome her home, to celebrate her becoming a true Senshi and the true heir to the throne.

She had always dreamt of it. Dreamt of their approval and praise instead of sneering and snide remarks, of the same kind of affection and awe her mother and father both seemed to effortlessly garner at any given moment.

It just...didn't feel right. They weren't her friends. They were nobles and citizens and well-wishers. It even felt strange for her parents to be there, and the Senshi, despite her knowing them from when they were very young. It was different, and not in a way she liked.

Funny how befriending the younger versions of the adults around doesn't change one's relationships with them as much as one thought, or hoped. She was no less tense with her mother, no less in shy awe of her father, no less overwhelmed by the might of the Senshi.

After what felt like the millionth party, Small Lady retreated to her room and sat at the enormous window overlooking the metropolis, absentmindedly stroking her cat friend Diana's fur. It was a beautiful utopia, flawless and eternal. It was her destiny to be its queen one day, to preserve the peace and the lives and happiness of the people.

So why was she wishing for the imperfect twentieth century?

Princess Mercury | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon | V3 | Part II

[personal profile] bound_to_water 2012-11-27 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Changes from canon, if AU:

The Silver Millennium. Older than time itself, the time of its prominence was a time of relative peace and harmony. All the planets in what people now know as 'the solar system' had their own royalty, castles, and subjects. But all were ruled by one kingdom: The Moon Kingdom, whose royal head was Queen Serenity. But in actuality, who got the most attention was her daughter: Princess Serenity, holder of the Ginzuishou. The Princess had her own guard, four women known as the sailor senshi, each the princess of her own respective planet: Sailors Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus. The outer planets were guarded by their own respective princesses also, though they did not serve the Princess in such an immediate frame of time as the others.

Princess Mercury was the second in command of the senshi, next to Venus, who was the leader. She resided on Mercury of course, inside Mariner Castle. She was also Princess Serenity's tutor, and scolded the girl often as she daydreamed about her lover (Endymion, a prince from Earth). When not training or tutoring, Mercury spent her days learning, and didn't mind at all. Learning was her passion, so she never once complained. In fact, what she learned would alter the course of events for the entire solar system.

While reading about the Ginzuishou of her own accord, the ultimate source of power, the Princess learned that the crystal was also a source of control. Any under the reign of Princess Serenity and the Ginzuishou could not oppose her. Any attempted physical attack would harm the attacker threefold, and then killed for treason (if the rebounded attack didn't destroy them first). Thus, a revolution was made impossible, and any changes highly unlikely. The Moon Kingdom had more power than even she realized. A frightening possibility began to form in Mercury's head. If the Ginzuishou was so powerful it could control that... What of the senshi? Were they serving her out of their own sense of honor and duty, or being forced into it?

Thus, the Princess began to formulate the unthinkable: a coup.

Why not? She had the smarts, the technology, and the ability to pull it off. Her research took full force, and she studied whatever she could about the Ginzuishou, even using her tutoring sessions to get the Princess to talk about it. Using that information, she began to style a device that would negate the Ginzuishou's effects. Her ideal was simple: a united, unified kingdom, shared by all the planets, not ruled by just one. Equality in power, and all other aspects. True peace.

Mercury knew she couldn't do it alone, so one day, she revealed her plan to Princess Mars, who was her closest friend. While shocked, the raven-haired princess knew Mercury was not stupid, nor insane, and knew that everything she said was true. She agreed to assist Mercury however she could. Slowly, the plan grew, and Princess Jupiter entered the fold after some thought. Still, three against Serenity... the odds were still against them. So Mercury branched out.

Zoisite, one of the four generals who served Endymion, frequently slipped into Mariner Castle to play on their large piano. Mercury was, often, his captive audience, and sometimes musical partner with her harp. She expressed her concerns, and revealed the plan to the white-haired Shitennou. Zoisite, troubled by Endymion's relationship with the Princess, believed in Mercury and agreed to speak to the other Shitennou. They all agreed to back her, believing in her vision. Mercury was soon filled with hope; she was hoping that the coup would be a bloodless one, that they could talk to Serenity without resorting to violence. However, if that proved impossible, it was nice to know she had some backup in the physical realm.

As Mercury tried to convince Princess Venus, who was the most reluctant to betray Serenity as she was her decoy, the Dark Kingdom attacked.

The Dark Kingdom attacked without warning. It was complete and utter destruction. The senshi were called into battle immediately, but they were no match for the forces Queen Beryl unleashed. All the senshi and the Shitennou fell, despite their best efforts. As Mercury died, she saw the Princess, being shielded by Endymion, before the world went black.

Then white.

Mercury was surprised to find that she could open her eyes. She found herself in a room of total white, along with her fellow senshi, as well as the Shitennou. In front of them was a woman with a maroon and black sailor uniform, red eyes, and deep green hair. A ring of keys was wrapped around her waist. In her hand was a staff, the top of it housing the Garnet Orb. Mercury felt the silence settle as all of them realized who this woman was. Only in legend, they knew her. She was Sailor Pluto, guardian of the space and time gate, and daughter of the time God, Chronos.

Pluto soon explained that after the senshi and Shitennou had died, a fatal blow was struck to Prince Endymion. Had he died in front of Serenity, her grief would have unleashed the power in the Ginzuishou, effectively destroying both the Earth and the Moon. So she stopped time to prevent that calamity, breaking the rules she herself enforced. Pluto revealed both Endymion and Serenity, each in a separate bed, sleeping side by side. Pluto explained that she had put them to sleep as another fail safe to prevent the disaster from occurring, and that their sleep would be eternal. No destruction would come. Pluto's alteration of time had also dispelled the Dark Kingdom, for now. Endymion did not need to be put to sleep, but Pluto did so because she knew he loved the Princess deeply, and would likely cut through his own generals to wake her up.

However, with all things, there was a catch. One senshi and one Shitennou would have to watch over the royalty from now on, as were the rules, to prevent any enemies from using the Princess' state as a chance to get their hands on the Ginzuishou. To assist the senshi in this task, Pluto granted them their ultimate Princess Senshi forms, and gave the Shitennou new weapons and armor. The senshi all talked it out, finally agreeing to take turns, or shifts, in guarding the pair, making the rotation every hundred years. A small drop in the bucket, considering the millions of years they could live. Mercury's shift was shared, to her joy, with Zoisite. They passed the time guarding the royalty with talking, chess games (in which Zoisite actually put up a good fight), and of course, music, Pluto permitting them a harp and piano to use to keep themselves occupied. Once their hundred years were over, the task moved to Mars and Jadeite. When not on that duty, the Princesses would return to their castles to try and rebuild their kingdoms. However, Mercury knew that unless the Princess was dead or the Ginzuishou removed fully from her, things would not change for the better. She took to her task with an even greater fervor than before. At this point, she was pulled away from her home, and into...

ECONTRA

Here, Mercury met an alternate of herself, one who served the Dark Kingdom after being turned by Metalia - Mizuno Ami, or Dark Sailor Mercury. Despite how unsettling it seemed at first, she soon came to see they had the same goal: the want of Serenity (or Usagi, as she was known to her alternate) to no longer have the ability to use the Ginzuishou. The pair arranged a deal: Ami would help Mercury remove the Ginzuishou's influence completely, if Mercury helped Ami rid herself of Metalia's taint and get back in touch with her Sailor Crystal. The exchange was made, and Mercury felt even more clear-headed than when she first lifted the Ginzuishou's influence. Thanks to evil beings known as the Entropi, Mercury managed to keep her senses in battle sharp, and the peaceful times allowed her to take delight in hobbies and relaxation. She did eventually become close with Ami, whom she dubbed her 'twin', as well as other prisoners in Econtra. However, unpredictable as it was, Mercury found herself without her twin one day, only to leave the place herself a few weeks later.

After being in Econtra, she found herself back home, only to learn that the Ginzuishou was reacting. Not even eternal sleep could halt its power. Left with no choice, Mercury took it upon herself to stab the Princess, shattering the Ginzuishou in the process. The Princess now rests in a near-death state, much like her lover. As Mercury decides what to do, she works with her fellow princess and the Shitennou, forming the Golden Alliance.

And when she dreams, well... That story begins now.

Princess Mercury | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon | V3 | Part III/FINAL

[personal profile] bound_to_water 2012-11-27 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

Princess Mercury is the studious type, often the one who bugged Princess Serenity the most about her studies. She lives for intelligence and learning new things, often enjoying her studies rather than being bored. She takes most things seriously, and is the epitome of a princess through her etiquette, poise, and speech. However, she still has her own quirks. She loves to read, and thus has been caught more than once with a book in her lap during political talks. She also deeply enjoys to play the harp, and has given concerts inside Mariner Castle on more than one occasion. She does like to laugh and play; it just takes a good while for someone to break past her 'princess' self and access the girl beneath. Mercury has great pride for her planet; they are the most intelligent in the system, and she is well aware of it. However, her ego and boasting comes from the insecurities she holds about not only herself and her abilities, but of the newly-forming Golden Alliance as well. Along with that comes a personality that is determined to see things through. Once she starts something, she will finish it, no matter the cost.

Mercury has a great amount of intellect and smarts. She is the smartest of all the senshi, and isn't afraid to say so. She loves to think outside the box and challenge established things. The more challenging, the better. Mercury is also a fan of music, and is very skilled at playing the harp.

Mercury's ego and pride are rather debilitating. She is smarter than almost everyone around her, is aware of it, and has no problem almost boasting about it (in a polite way, naturally). Her insecurities in herself and the Moon Kingdom can also lead to negative thoughts sometimes. She tends to be suspicious of people she doesn't fully know, making her seem paranoid, but she's really just careful. She can have a temper, and has a tendency to be blunt when it comes to idiotic people. Her brashness may make her seem cold, if not cruel, and it doesn't help that she doesn't seem to care what others think of her.

Abilities:

Mercury has power over water, and therefore ice as well. She can do various offensive attacks and defensive skills with them. She uses her powers more as Princess Sailor Mercury, but does indeed have that same power as just Princess Mercury. She can create water, and also absorb it from the air and ground around her.

Mercury is talented in battle. She fights with her brain rather than her fists usually, preferring to outwit her opponents rather than go in swinging. However, when she has to use force, she is more than adept with her sword, the Mariner Blade, as well as her powers.

Writing sample:

It was a pleasant day on the planet Mars.

Princess Mercury had gone to visit her close friend, Princess Mars, at the Brimstone Temple, Mars' palace. Despite Venus separating them, Mars and Mercury seemed to be closer to one another than the other Princesses. They both felt Venus to be vain and distant, Jupiter too rough at times, and Serenity was, well, Serenity. So, Mars and Mercury soon turned to one another for companionship when they had the time to do so. Phobos and Deimos, the twin girl guardians of Princess Mars, curtsied to Mercury before leading her to the meditation room.

Even inside, Mercury could still feel the heat from the blistering outdoors. Mars was always sunny, and hot, making the water senshi a good deal uncomfortable. However, she did not show it, not even sweating as she followed the twins down the corridors, which were rich and vibrant, lined with red and gold, in lush velvets and silks. It was like her own Mariner Castle, though turned on it's head in a way. Mercury preferred satin and lace, in small, graceful touches. At this thought, she smiled, a reminder of how different she and Mars were.

As they reached the door to the meditation room, Mercury curtsied to the twins in thanks before entering the room quietly. The room was dimly lit, in candles that made the room unbearably warm still. Draped in shades of red, Mars smiled as she saw Mercury enter, the red Mars symbol glowing for a brief moment as she approached her friend and took her hands. "I didn't think you would come." Mars dropped the formalities since she and the blue-haired princess were alone.

Mercury smiled, her own forehead symbol glowing in return. "Of course I would. You almost freeze every time you enter Mariner Castle, so it's only fair I take a bit of a beating." A joke, naturally, the pair of girls laughing. Oddly enough, the only planet with perfect weather (save for Earth) was Venus. Ironic that the least sociable had the best weather.

Mars smiled and motioned for Mercury to come to the center of the room, where a pair of pillows had been situated. "Come. Let's begin our session." Mercury had expressed interest in meditation, hence the reason for this visit. Mars often had precognitive dreams; though she never shared all of them, the entire system knew of her mystical abilities. Mercury nodded, and the Princesses knelt across from one another, folding their hands in their laps and closing their eyes. All was peaceful, calm, and still, the only movement being the flickering of the candles.

And then Mars sneezed.

Calmly, Mercury opened an eye. "Are you not supposed to be the expert here?" The remark was full of amusement, the princess unable to keep the smirk off her face. The pair of girls then burst into peals of laughter.

Clearly, no meditation would get done today.

Personality Expansion

[personal profile] bound_to_water 2012-11-27 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Mercury shares a bit with her canon counterpart (her good self, not her evil alternate). Namely, the strong desire to be accepted, and the ability to lighten up once around people she truly trusts. Both her and her canon self can also be quite analytical, always thinking first before doing anything. This trait is both beneficial and harmful at the same time. Both also can and do stiffen when in an uncomfortable or awkward situations, covering up their nerves with an inordinate amount of politeness. Mercury is perhaps more conscious of her manners and decorum than Ami, solely for the fact she is representing not just herself, but her planet; and yet, that is a mirror of how Ami attempts to please her mother in canon.

As for how they differ, Mercury is a bit colder than her reborn self. As said before, she can be brutally honest till she's almost cruel, should the situation warrant it. She also has a bit more grit than Ami; the decision to stab Serenity to destroy the Ginzuishou, though it wasn't come to lightly, is probably something Ami could never do (at least, not in her 'good' mode; Dark Mercury is a whole other story).

When she first heard of the Ginzuishou's supposed abilities, she took her time, taking weeks to get all the information she could before deciding what to do. Mercury doesn't make large decisions lightly, and always makes sure she knows all the details before acting. To her, free will and free thinking are very important, so once mind control began to pop up, she knew something had to be done - not for herself, but for the sake of her friends, as well as everyone else under the rule of the Moon Kingdom. They were the ones who she was most concerned with, more than her own safety, and she made it clear when she approached the others for help that she would not force them if they were not one hundred percent behind her. The coup she planned was meant to be her last resort, and was originally intended to be as bloodless as possible. In any plan she makes, violence is used as a worst-case scenario. It may have worked, had the Dark Kingdom not reared its ugly head.

Character name: Seta Souji
Character fandom: Persona 4
Version: V1
Canon point: post-True End
Importing development from old game? no.
Background: here

Personality: Souji is calm, affable, and a little distant the majority of the time. Before coming to Inaba, frequent moves had taught him not to get attached, so despite his intuitive talent for understanding and empathizing with the people around him, he often seems shallow and aloof to strangers.

The truth is, Souji cares about people, and he cares about answers. That compassionate curiosity is the cornerstone of his personality. Years of distant people-watching have lead him to be very insightful about more or less everyone around him, because he does his best not to judge or jump to conclusions, but simply to watch, listen, and treat each new acquaintance as a totally unique and individual case, rather than comparing them to other people, stereotypes, rumors or preconceptions. And whether he understands right away or not, if he sees someone having trouble, he'd like to help. Every problem, like every person, poses its own questions, and Souji's enough of a perfectionist that no matter what else is going on, he wants to find the answer. It isn't ego that makes him put himself in the center of events, but a pre-occupation with any job, problem, or mystery he stumbles across.

The tendency toward being an analytical observer often makes Souji seem like a cipher to the people around him. While his easygoing manner, attentive concern, and seeming tirelessness are constants, Souji is a social chameleon, taking on the traits of anyone he spends time with -- but also taking on the traits they expect him to have. Relationships are just another sort of puzzle to solve, and while his emotion is genuine, Souji is a people-pleaser, and he'd like live up to others' expectations. To an insecure friend who feels cut off from his old life in the big city, Souji is urbane and confident, understated. To a fastidious detective, Souji adapts his own curious nature to become a sidekick. To a girl who thinks everyone sees her as an artificial construction instead of her genuine self, he opens up a little, showing how natural it is to play different parts with different people.

So, who is the real Souji? What's under that watchful demeanor? Souji is a methodical puzzle-solver with a bleeding heart. He stays calm because he's dealt with unknowns all his life, and they make him curious rather than afraid. He's a growing kid who's ravenously hungry, and hunger combined with curiosity means he'll eat almost literally anything (once). He likes attention, likes seeing the people around him happy, and he'll push himself to extremes to make that happen without admitting any complaints -- it isn't that he's trying to be stoic, just that he thinks the effort is worth it. He has a dry, goofy sense of humor, and the closest thing he has to a deep secret is that, really, he loves and needs absolutely all the people around him just as badly as they need him.

Abilities: Beyond being smart, athletic, and charming, Souji has the ability to summon Personas. While most people have only one Persona at a time, Souji can hold a great many within his mind, and (with help) can combine and recombine them in many ways, losing or unlocking various skills. Having close relationships with different sorts of people fuels this ability, and having an active Persona of the same Arcana, or archetype, as a friend enables him to understand them better.

Like any RPG protagonist, Souji is hyper-competent and much more powerful than his peers. If anything sounds too powerful the way I described it, I'm more than willing to tone it down -- it's less important that Souji succeed at everything, and more important that he constantly tries to do everything.

Writing sample: Souji's phone chirped at him, and he dusted the flour off his hands before checking it. It was just about time to leave the dough to rise for an hour or two, anyway. He flipped it open, and saw the memo he'd left himself: he had just enough time to feed the stray cat down by the river on his way to his tutoring job. He'd have to bike if he wanted to get there and back quickly enough to finish the baking he was doing, but that was okay. He gathered a few odds and ends from the fridge, nibbling idly before he realized that these were the leftovers he was planning on feeding to the cat.

Well, that was okay. There were enough for both of them.

Let me know if anything more is needed here; I admittedly haven't been playing Souji very long, but I'd be willing to thread with a mod character if these aren't enough.

Yasoinaba Station fell away behind the train, and Souji stood still a moment, looking out the window, eyes on the passing scenery now that he could no longer look back at the platform. A small smile played over his lips, and he sighed, sounding more satisfied than wistful.

Tomorrow he’d be home with his parents again, even if it was a ‘home’ he’d never seen before. And in a month he’d be starting school in a new town.

That was all right. For the first time, even if he was leaving a familiar place, he wasn’t leaving it behind. He closed his hands, and looked down at them. On the first day of school, he’d text Yosuke, reminding him to be careful steering his bike. He’d make a map of all the good bike trails, parks, and restaurants that served steak for Chie. Yukiko would help co-ordinate the lesson plans in their classes so that they could study together, and help everyone test for the same colleges.

He’d send Teddie Topsicle money. He’d show off Kanji’s little knit animals to the new friends he was going to make, and send him back the orders he was sure to get for more. Last year he’d been on the basketball team and the drama club -- he’d need to decide whether to continue with those, or try soccer and music this year, or maybe something else altogether. He knew just who to ask about his options.

He’d look into getting tickets to the next Risette tour. He was pretty confident he could get some good seats. And if there was anything suspicious... he turned his wrist, looking at the watch there and the rapidly climbing numbers on its display. Solving a case from halfway across Japan was just the kind of challenge Naoto would relish.

Still smiling, he walked to his seat, dropping into it and pulling a notebook out of his bag.

He’d promised Nanako that he’d write her every day. There’d never be a better time to start than now.
