WHAT TO KNOW
Applications are ALWAYS OPEN, and will be processed as they are received. They must be posted in the comments, NOT linked to.

Before applying, read the rules & setting page and this post in their entirety. Use the potential applications page or the FAQ if you have any questions about the process. There is also a sample app and an explanation of how we process apps if those interest you. The wanted characters list may also be helpful.

In general, however, we would rather have a shorter, better written application than a longer one, every time. That said, length is one of the least important factors in our applications. We look primarily at the voice samples, then the personality section and writing sample. The voice samples are by far the most important section, and we prefer that these be thread links, because they give us a sense of how you play the character rather than simply how you write an application for the character.

The application page from the former site can be found here.

MISC. RULES
We do allow challenge apps, but we wait the duration of the reserve for the other app to come in before processing them against each other.

Applications or parts of applications (such as the initial comment containing contact information) will be screened on request.

There is a one week grace period for dropped characters during which applications for them will be held pending. The former player can choose to pick up those characters at any time during that week without re-applying.

If you are asked for a revision, you have one week to submit them before your app will be automatically declined. You must resubmit your app in its entirety if that happens. Always feel free to ask us to clarify what we're looking for on revisions; we won't bite.

If you are rejected, we encourage you to re-apply. We like seeing players that have taken our critique and worked on improving their portrayal. The exception is a character rejected on the grounds that they would be difficult to impossible for others to play with. Playability is an important factor.

Our plagiarism policy is as follows: the first offense will be met without consequence. The second offense results in a one month ban from apping. Subsequent further offenses will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis but most likely incur longer bans, up to and including indefinite bans.

APPLICATION IN DETAIL
Your name:
Your journal: A sock is fine, or a commonly used character journal if you don't have a personal one. Just please be consistent with your identity for ease of reference.
Contact: AIM/plurk/email/etc., whatever you prefer to be contacted.
Other characters played at Passing:

Character name:
Character fandom:
Version: V1, V1.# or V2+ should be the only options.
Canon point: What point of their timeline you're taking them from.
Importing development from old game? If yes, where from?
Background: Link to the Wiki entry on it, or if the series has its own wiki, the character's page. A comprehensive fan site is an acceptable substitute. If you cannot find one of these that works well enough for us to get a good grasp of your character from a third party, please write out the standard 'history' section for this on your own. Please include this even if applying for an AU version of the character. OCs need the history section written out as well, obviously.

In general, though, this should be a link whenever possible and not a written history. We use it to compare an unbiased third party account against your represented version of the character. If you include a written history, we will ignore it completely and look up whatever is available for that character on Wikipedia ourselves.

Changes from canon, if AU: What it says. Detail here how the AU world is different from canon, or what events have happened in their previous game that have lead them to be different.

Personality: The meat of the application, and self-explanatory. We want to see that you understand what makes them tick. If AU, try to include explanation for where and why the character has changed from canon.

Abilities: What are they particularly good at, or if they do have superhuman powers, what are they? A bullet point list will suffice.

Writing sample: At least 200 words of your own writing in third person prose, preferably about the character you're applying for. Samples about others are allowed, in any setting. This is to gauge your writing style and technique, not your grasp of character. That's the next section.

Voice sample: You may either write 200 words of your character speaking to himself, or you may link to threads, or you may request to thread with a mod character.

Regular voice sample: If choosing option one, the standard first person sample rules apply. The word count applies only to spoken words, not action in brackets, and since 200 words is a lot for some quiet characters, more than one different samples are allowed.

Linking to threads: If you are linking to threads, make sure they are lengthy ones that demonstrate your understanding of the character. We don't need a million of them, but remember that this is as a substitute for a sample, and we will evaluate it the same way. Threads that took place in other games, museboxes, or [community profile] dear_mun are all fine.

Threading with a mod character: You may also request to thread with a mod character - please do so in the body of your application when you submit it, rather than contacting a mod privately. The first available mod will respond back as soon as possible and discuss with you who your character would be best suited to play off of of their characters, and then you will agree on a time to sit down and crack out a thread.

These will be 'quick log' style in brackets and not prose to make them go faster and keep the focus on dialog. These do not have to be masterpieces of wonder, but your application will not be judged until you have finished the thread (at least 20 comments on your part), so think carefully before choosing this option. The mods will make every effort to respond to your tags quickly.

Roxas || Kingdom Hearts || Reserved

[personal profile] simulatedsummer 2012-04-12 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Abilities:
All of Roxas' abilities are currently on limbo save for the use of his keyblade- and even then, it usually only responds to dangerous situations. It's not something he can freely and easily call to his aid at this point. This is something that might change given time. That being said...

Keyblade (x2)
A weapon that chooses its wielder. Capable of sealing worlds and freeing hearts.

The keyblade is exactly what it sounds like. An over-sized key-shaped weapon created out of a particularly strong material (although what exactly has never really been indicated) that is unbreakable. At least as far as it's been shown. While the base appearance holds to a standard looking key, with the addition of a keychain (often found or created through synthesis), its appearance can change vastly, the weapon itself growing in power as well. Even at its standard form though, it's large enough both to serve well in packing a lot of punch as well as taking a beating instead of its wielder. The pummel is perfect for blocking attacks since it's ridiculously wide although he's more likely to use the blade itself to defend himself.

Because it's naturally attune to magic as well, he can channel stronger spells of various varieties through it. The keyblade's most intense strength as far as magic goes is its own light induced properties, giving him a strong combination of wide area of effect attacks (see "Event Horizon") at the cost of quickly exhausting him due to the lacking ethers and the world's own inhibitions on him.

Also to be noted is that the keyblade acts basically like a skeleton key. Most things with lock-holes can be either locked or unlocked with it unless there is a magic that counteracts the attempt. It is still arguable whether her own can or can't seal worlds, but considering there are no worlds to do that with in OPN (to my knowledge anyway!), it's a moot point.

Oathkeeper and Oblivion are Roxas' main keyblades that he will be using in time.

Due to being Sora's nobody, Roxas is capable of calling on the keyblade to aid him. And since his time during the Organization revolved around destroying heartless of many varieties, Roxas has become a very proficient keybearer. Like Sora, Roxas holds it two-handed usually and tends to make wide arced strikes. His fighting style showcases a confidence with hard hitting combos both aerial-wise and on the ground. He strikes quickly and without hesitance for the most part, taking the offensive rather than giving his opponent the chance to react. This style might be heavily attributed to the matter that this ability of his was something heavily praised and valued to the Organization. And whether he agrees with them anymore or not, the keyblade still stands to give him purpose, something he's capable of using and working well with.

While not as experienced with it, Roxas is also capable of dual-wielding. He fought with a fluidity that put his Other to shame. His movements smooth and concentrated yet with a firm bite. He doesn't usually choose to use both though and he won't be able to for a while anyway due to his canon point.

In a state of emergency, Roxas can use Event Horizon. During it, he strikes twice as fast with light-induced properties collected in his keyblade for an edge. In the final strike, four pillars of light explode out from the center and shoot out in all four cardinal directions. He can only use it as a safety net sort of move and it quickly exhausts him, but it's very efficient when desperate times call for desperate measures. When dual-wielding, his break becomes stronger, larger pillars of light raining down on his enemies in a random fashion before the final one crashes down towards his opponent (see 4:07 in the Even Horizon video). Considering the power of the move though, this will be muted in comparison.

Aside from light-based magic, Roxas is also capable of five other spells in particular: fire, blizzard, aero, thunder, and cure. These spells can be produced either by bare hands or through the keyblade. The keyblade itself strengthens the spell, capable of better channeling the magic. But at the beginning of relearning these spells, Roxas will only be able to use them without the keyblade at first. All of the spells themselves come at three levels using the traditional Final Fantasy franchise naming strategy.

Spells that end in -ara are second level and those ending in -aga are third level. The more powerful the level, the quicker are to exhaust Roxas. Especially since there are no ethers to find among the city. Meaning he'll have to let himself recharge naturally.

First Level
Fire
A single projectile fireball. Its power is generally weak, but it homes in on its target with decent speed and a generous range. Can burn a target.
Blizzard
A projectile spell similar to fire. Its range and speed are terrible, but it can hit its target multiple times. Can potentially temporarily freeze a target.
Thunder
A line of bolts that rains from the heavens towards its main target. The line comes quickly and can hit multiple targets on the way, but the spell itself follows a straight line, not homing like fire or blizzard. Can temporary paralyze the target.
Aero
Acts the same as fire only stronger and with lesser homing abilities.
Cure
A direct spell that heals all minor scrapes and bruises and partly heals medium-deep cuts of one target. Instantaneous. *Note that cure does not rid of hunger or thirst.
Second Level
FiraThis spell grants a higher amount of power than the previous fire spell, capable of hitting multiple enemies at a considerate speed. However, unlike Fire, it can only go in a straight line. Can burn a target.
Blizzara
While still slow and with a short range like the prior spell, this one gives off a small explosion instead when it hits its target, causing both it and whatever other enemies around it considerable damage. Can temporarily freeze a target.
Thundara
Bolts of lightning rain down, hitting randomly around the caster. On the upside, the spell can hit multiple targets at once to cause some decent damage. On the downside, the lack of control can cause the spell to hit allies as well as enemies. Can temporarily paralyze a target.
Aerora
A single projectile wind elemental spell that shoots out in a zig-zag pattern. Targets hit can be blown into the air.
Cura
Acts like Regen from Final Fantasy. Whoever he has cast it upon will heal gradually. Lasts five tag rounds.
Third Level
Firaga
Shoots up in the air before homing in on its target with considerable speed and moderate damage. Upon impact, it will explode on its target. Can burn a target.
Blizzaga
Unlike its previous forms, this spell can be planted like a mine. Targets that come within range of it are in it when it explodes just like one, too, for moderate damage. Once planted though, it can't be removed and allies may be hit by it instead if they aren't careful. Can potentially freeze a target temporarily.
Thundaga
A larger, more powerful bolt that hits its target not once but twice. The second time causing some area of effect.
Aeroga
A whirlwind surrounds the caster, pulling targets towards them. Those in close range suffer extra damage from the spell's effect alone on top of whatever damage they might be on the receiving end of, melee-wise.
Curaga
A small recovery area is created. Those inside it will heal quickly. Lasts up to three tag rounds unless Roxas himself extends it by remaining there.

Roxas is also capable of using Dark Corridors. These are portals that take root in darkness and harness a shortcut through an alternate plane to cut through the distance in seconds whether it be between one side of a city to another or one world to another. Of course, Roxas must first have a visual of the place he needs to portal to before he can go there himself (or so head canon dictates), but once he has been to a place, he need only envision it and open a corridor to traverse there. While he won't be able to move between worlds in OPN, these will become a useful aid for moving around in the world itself.

Writing sample:

The following was a sample used for Aprigen.

He knew he shouldn't have followed that glowing creature. But those guys in the white suits had been chasing him and whatever it was seemed to have been guiding him at the time. Well, now he was eying the only way he assumed was out of the mess he was in with great scrutiny, standing in front of a strange door of sorts. One that was almost beckoning to him. Cautiously, he looked to it. Uncertain and feeling an alien sort of presence. But his curiosity got the better of him. Maybe this door would lead him to answers. Maybe then he would find out why all these weird things were happening to him at his own home. And it was definitely better than getting caught by those guys. Or so he thought. So, carefully, his hand that had been lingering in the air finally grasped the door knob and turned it. Pushing it open lightly, the door creaked and he took a step.

The first thing he felt was that sensation of falling. It made his body tense up and his breath cut short as he braced for the landing. And just as he hit with a soft 'plop', his eyes flew open. He breathed hard, body short of that much needed air, only to cough away the flurry of feathers he had attracted. Shaken and exhausted. It took him a while to catch a grip on reality- of a dream, no less. Only now he saw nothing but a long hallway stretched before him off to the one side. Clambering to his feet, he patted away the bizarre feathers and shook his head rapidly before he started with unsteady steps down the walkway. Eventually, the hall ended at an open doorway. He stood there at the threshold but only for a few seconds' time before entering.

The slam behind him could be felt reverberating through him and he spun around quick to see the door had shut. "What?" Whether it was due to someone or if it had done it by itself remained a mystery, but the concept that he was now stuck in a room wasn't exactly something he would easily accept. Quickly, he tried the doorknob. Then the next one's. And the next. Making a quick once over... and then a second time. But this time was accompanied by the pounding of fists, the slamming of elbows and shoulders against wood, and a good kick here and there. Still, nothing let up and before he knew it, Roxas was leaning over on his knees and taking labored breaths. "Great." He muttered it to himself, shaking his head. Then rising to his full height once more, he paused.

"Huh? That wasn't there before..." In a matter of cautious strides, he approached the table that had seemed to materialize out of no where. The most noticeable thing as he approached was the laptop, but as he came closer, he could see a phone, too. He found himself standing before said computer soon enough, staring at it at first. Admittedly, he had never been one to delve too much into them. Just not a choice interest. But figuring this was a way out perhaps- because he was in a weird dream space anyway or so he was trying to convince himself- Roxas did what any normal technologically incompetent person would do. Hit random buttons on the keyboard until it decided to respond. A bit of button mashing in and a message popped up.

"Hit the 'enter' key..." Well. Simple enough. It had to be somewhere... It took a little bit of browsing, but finally, "Ah-ha, there!" He smiled victoriously at least a little to himself as he pushed the key. Instantly, the original text vanished and a new set appeared. "'What's your name'....?" Simple enough question to answer. What was the point of this, he had to wonder, as his hands idly wandered the stretch of keys. 'R'... 'O'... There, bottom left. 'X'.... 'A-S'. Right beside each other. Now how to key it in... Maybe if he hit enter again...

And bingo, screen cleared! "Well, that was easy... Huh?"

REGISTRATION COMPLETED

He scrutinized the screen a while longer with a raised eyebrow, but it noted nothing else- even when he hit a few keys. Shrugging to himself, his hand idled over to the phone and stuffed it in his pocket almost instinctively as he looked around the vicinity again. And lo and behold, there was a bizarre, pink door. Surely... nothing out of the ordinary, right? At least in a dream. And with it seeming to be the only way out anyway, he chanced to venture forth and see what else he could figure out about this place. So after thoughtlessly shutting the laptop and tucking it under his arm, he made for the door. There was a more vexed step to his gait. Usually, he would have been confronted by something more than a few typed messages by then. Before, it had been those guys in the white suits. And the once he had ran into that strange girl. Not having any sort of contact with someone face to face was odd. In fact, he was starting to feel warier and warier step by step. Almost like he shouldn't go.

Yet before he take that second guessing up in action, he had found his hand on the doorknob- and soon springing back as he shouted. His hands clamped down on the back of his neck as it burned viciously. He blinked back the tears that brimmed his eyes from the pain alone as he groaned. But just as quickly as it had come, the stinging sensation subsided and he was left to rub it soothingly, wincing here and then again as the door creaked open and a brighter, more natural light filtered into sight. He took a step forward to test the waters when he heard a beep in his pocket. And gathering his wits, he shuffled a hand inside, collecting the cell phone and flipping it open. Studying the message, he scoffed and shook his head.

"This is just too weird... And why would I need to go by this when I already go by something else?"

But why then, as he considered that. Why didn't he...? And suddenly, things seemed to have gotten a lot more complicated.

[Action]

Hayner! Pence! Olette! [ He found himself calling their names before he even really knew it as he ran through the streets. Part of him apprehended himself for shouting. What if he attracted some unwanted attention? But a larger part of him simply didn't care, simply was far too focused on returning to the way things were. Back to talking their ears off at the Usual Spot and snacking on sea-salt ice cream up on the clock tower ledge. When things were normal- and it hadn't been that long ago since then. He knew that and yet it already felt so far away. It wasn't like those weird happenings that would occur and then he would be back to his normal routine. Or if this was one of those weird daydreams, it was sure taking its time to end. The problem was that underneath his determination, a sense of panic was rising. He didn't recognize these streets or its denizens. The air didn't even feel right or the smell. Everything was foreign. It wasn't like he was still in Twilight Town. Wherever he was... it wasn't home. ]

[Later that day... Audio]

[ His voice came off hesitant yet thoughtful. Uncertain yet insistent. ] I don't really get what's going on... or how I got here. [ The last thing he remembered was that pink door and everything, but feh. That sounded so crazy, and he really didn't want to get himself under the weirdness radar with someone. Not after how his friends reacted. Still, continuing with a tone of determination. ] If anyone could fill me in, that'd be great. [ There was a long pause- but just as he seemed finished, he spoke up again. ] And has anyone seen Hayner, Pence, or Olette? They're my age. And... Hayner wears those camo shorts. Pence always has that head band on- oh, and that dog on his jersey! And Olette, she has this big white flower on her shirt. If you have, just... let me know. Thanks.

And then I made things more complicated with more twenty questions.

I was actually going to adjust his canon point- just to the first day instead of the third. He'd still be very much Twilight Town Roxas (I almost wrote Toxas. What is this.) Would that be okay? Do I get lit on fire as a prize? Ah-hahaha~

Character name: Xion
Character fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Version: V1
Canon point: After she disappears in front of the clock tower and says goodbye to Roxas.
Background: Wiki Link

Personality: Xion, at her a core is a very pure, innocent, short lived girl. She really doesn’t know much about that world that she didn’t learn in her 350 days of life with the organization. Having lived much of that life thinking that she didn’t have a heart and thus couldn’t feel emotions, she’s very stinted when it comes to recognizing certain feelings and expressing them. Due to this, she really doesn’t “get” much about the more complex aspects of emotions like love, jealously, restlessness, nervousness. When it comes to the things that she doesn’t understand, she’s infinitely curious, always ready to learn a new thing or two from the people who are so nice as to be willing to share with her.

Not having a 'first' life, she strives towards being able to be a whole person, to be able to have simple talks with people without having to remember what she is, without having to explain. Curious with a cause: That's Xion. Xion is the kind of girl cherishes friendship above all other things, and would do anything to preserve those relationships with the people she cares about. Around other people she isn’t close to, however, she acts fairly shy and reserved. The more playful sides of her personality only crawl out when she’s comfortable enough around someone. It takes a lot of time for her to be able to open up. For Xion the little things like smiles, touches, laughs, they're all very special things. To her, nothing is ordinary about feelings like those.

Additionally, she has an extremely serious, dutiful side that only rears it’s head during situations in which the people she cares about are in serious danger, or when the stakes are at their peak. She can be fairly analytical and observant of her environment. Normally doing what she thinks is best for the task at hand, she’s known to stress a little, but only a little, from her orders. (I.E: Talking to locals when told not to, straying a little bit off course to help somebody in need..)

Xion also has a number of faults in her personality, besides the fact that she’s naive to, well, a fault. When something goes wrong, Xion tends to take the burden up on her own, refusing to ask others for help to ensure that nobody else is damaged by her own mistakes. It’s another aspect of her “anything to preserve the relationship” mentality. She’d let herself be beaten half to death if it meant one of her friends wouldn’t get a cold. She’s more than willing to be the one to shoulder all of the bad, if her friends don’t have to. A bit prone to angst, Xion takes most everything pretty hard, and has a great deal of difficulty looking past her own mistakes, what she is and how she was created, especially. Always throughout her short life, she figured if somebody would have to make a sacrifice, she was the one with the right credentials. If anyone would have to stop existing...

"They say nobodies aren't supposed to exist, but I'm the real affront."

Particularly, Xion is quite fond of a few specific things. One thing she enjoys is being near the ocean, listening to the waves, and collecting sea-shells. However, her favorite thing, the thing she enjoys above all else is simply watching the sunset with her friends, eating a stick of sea-salt ice cream. Xion is seen differently by just about everyone she ever knew in her life. Mostly because of the various connections to Sora, as she appeared to be their strongest memory of him, but that manner of thinking goes much deeper than that--much deeper than just her physical appearance. Some saw her as a puppet, something to be used until it breaks. Some saw her as a tool to be used again and again, something that shouldn't have it's own will. Some saw her as just another nobody, just another non-person. And Roxas and Axel, of course, saw her as a friend. Around unfamiliar people, it would be easy to peg her as a weirdo of sorts. Her reserved nature in combination with that fact that she knows so little about people and their culture and how they work make her a strange sight to look at. That being, it probably wouldn't be too lofty of a task to trick her, and in a lot of ways she could be easily taken advantage of.

The gap between her and 'normal' people is large and hard to fill, but that's one of the things she wants more than anything. Originally she just wanted to run away with her two friends, where they could be together peacefully, but she soon learned that you can’t run forever; you can’t run from your problems. She just wants a life. Free of all the complications of nobodies and replicas. To be able to just sit around with her friends and eat ice cream. That is where her drives lie. A place where not just her, but everyone can be friends and eat ice cream together. A place where people aren't always hurting each other. A world that isn't too complex, a world where everyone is equal and real. A world where everyone can be honest and not have to worry. And so she'll always be doing what she can to preserve ideals like that. She'll be there to protect the people who need it, and there to stand up against the people who do. It's that kind of stuff, the real stuff, the serious stuff, that's what makes her set aside her reservations. That's where she can make a difference and that's where she can truly matter. It'll take all she's got, but she won't give up. A world where everything is right, and nobody needs to make sacrifices.

Abilities: Xion is a capable and adept swordsman, most often wielding a keyblade as her sword. When reaching her peak of strength, she’s noted to be able to blow through very difficult missions in the organization with extreme speed and ease. In addition to this, Xion can also employ a number of magic techniques, ranging from elemental attacks like fire, blizzard, thunder, etc. to healing and reflective magic. Her adeptness at this magic is decent at best, using it mostly as a compliment to her keyblade skills rather than something she uses alone for battle, unless she doesn’t have a weapon. Her most powerful ability is her ‘Event Horizon’, her “limit” attack which she can imply after having sustained rather serious damage on the battle field. It comes in the form of large, pillars of light that crash down from the heavens, as well as increasing speed, strength and agility for a short amount of time.

She can summon her keyblade into her hand at any time, seemingly from nowhere. It appears in her hand as a stroke of light, and then takes it’s form instantaneously. The keyblade has a square, yellow hilt with a long cylindrical, silver, metal shaft. At the end of the shaft are “teeth” like a key in the shape of a crown

. In addition to this she can open "Corridors of Darkness" which can take her to just about any place that she can see in her head, considering the place she's looking to go doesn't have some sort of magical restriction. However as they're filled with darkness, most ordinary people are not safe to travel through them as the darkness can have very adverse affects on the body and heart.

Writing sample: She takes a stern look at the area around her: Grass, dirt, big, metal gates guarding the mansion—her destination. Everything she had been thinking about before was suddenly being questioned. Ready to find out the answers, ready to accept whatever fate was to lie before her, but those gates.

The gates changed everything.

The gates made it real. What she thought was unshakable resolve was completely obliterated by a bunch of big, metal bars. And she started shaking. A lump grew in her throat, and a pit in her stomach.

Her breath escaped her mouth as though it were being sucked out, and words along with it, “I’m not so strong…am I? I’m sorry but…I can’t be weak this time.” She gripped the gates and opened them, walking to the doors of the mansion. Everything counted on this. Sora, Riku, Axel, Roxas...She knew that this is what she had to do, but it couldn’t keep her from thinking in the back of her head how sad it was. Xion had to give up the two people she loved most, along with everything else her world had become. Her heart was shaking, nervous, fragile, but she couldn’t waver.

This was too important.
More important than she was.

“I have to be strong…I have to be strong for everyone…” A small, nostalgic but sweet smile grew on her face as she placed her hand gently upon the doorknob.

“Maybe...someday we can all eat ice cream together. Watch the sunset,” her head tilted upwards, blue eyes looking towards the sun forever hanging just on the horizon.
The smile didn’t waver.
“That would make me...very happy.”

Background:
I promise you that
we're marching on!

Import History: Il Promenade
Neither me nor Rox were entirely sure how to handle this, so we decided this would be easiest.

Ventus was originally taken from before the revelation of his and Vanitas’ connection was fully embellished on. When first arriving in Prom, he struck up quick and easy friendships with many characters; including Sora, Roxas and Axel. Axel explained to Ven almost immediately that he hadn’t seen hide or hair of the other for over ten years; an oddity that worried Ventus greatly. However, there wasn’t too intense a problem to start with. Both Terra and Aqua were there as well, there were friends to be made; Ventus took part in a Struggle Tournament and lost horrifically due to his incapability to hold a bat properly.

And then it all went ’scuze my French to shit. Vanitas turned up in Promenade as well, immediately demanding the two of them make the X-blade, as they had been about to from Vanitas’ timeline. Terrified at the mere word, Ventus ran, coming across Roxas and hiding away with him for a total of three days.

During that time, Ventus and Roxas watched a special mirror; one that each character has, that shows their timeline continuing on without them. Future revealed, Ventus was shocked-- and full of mixed emotions and decisions that he couldn’t quite sort out. Nor did he have the time to.

Within the week, an event took place in Promenade. Hideous creatures attacked the city, and all the natives were placed under a heavy sleep. During this time, the worst possible thing happened; Ventus died. His death was made even more painful to those connected to him, due to the death of Roxas-- at the exact same time. Two days later, Sora fell, as well.

But, with the three of them combined THEY BECAME CAPTAIN PLANET they found themselves within their heart space, waiting for the moment they could return to life. During this time, Ventus found the strength to ask what he couldn’t before; due to their connection, he was sure Roxas and Sora were the only ones who could truly put an end to him. Both Roxas and Sora refused, convincing Ventus that it wasn’t the way to go, and the three of them returned to life, reuniting with their friends, hand in hand.

As a penalty for death, Ventus lost a sense for several days after being revived. Without his sense of touch, he was deemed officially grounded, as were Sora and Roxas. The weeks following were of a much more peaceful nature; aside from an attack on Terezi by Vanitas.

And then Ventus…fell asleep. Because I went to America. 8|;; During this time, he was canon updated to end game, and when he awoke, the first thing he attempted to do was contact Vanitas and try to reason with him, describing and showing him exactly what future they had to look forward to due to their actions. Vanitas fell into a rage after Ventus told him that he was whole all on his own, and Ventus was injured once more, grounded yet again before finally being dropped a few weeks later.

Personality:
Typically, it’s easy to denote Ventus as being entirely similar to Sora, and leaving him at that. They’re both young, cheerful with an easy acceptance in helping everyone that crosses their path, with the ability and courage to sacrifice themselves for others in times of need. The quirks cross over even into certain gestures, such as holding their hands behind their head in the same easy going mannerism that’s infamous for the both of them.

Though the similarities don’t end there, there’s much more to Ventus than his connection with Sora. From the night that their two hearts connect, effectively saving Ventus’ life and providing clarity on the similarities of their Others –Vanitas, the darkness of Ventus’ heart personified, and Roxas, Sora’s Nobody- to each other, respectively, Ventus grows and develops quirks and emotional standings that are all of his own, including several flaws to character that are key to his eventual downfall.

Ventus is an extremely empathetic character. He doesn’t like seeing other’s looking downtrodden, and does his best to resolve their issues even when it means putting aside his own. This comes into play throughout practically every world he visits, from rescuing Snow White from the nightmarish trees, to helping Hercules train, even when he can’t be a part of the games himself.

He also isn’t above being sidetracked from the bigger picture. Ven exhibits a great amount of sensitivity to personal issues and worry over the ties he has with friends. Whenever he encounters problems where he finds no resolution or viable way to solve it without others getting hurt, Ventus will show a certain amount of resignation and acceptance--such as with Terra and Aqua, when their feud at Radiant Garden causes the three to separate once more. Instead of asking for help or protection when the revelation of his ties to Vanitas come to light, he instead asks for Terra and Aqua to 'just… put an end to him.' Ven’s passive acceptance of such things shows a lack of confidence in himself, his abilities and his worth to those around him.

Viewing Ven’s story in three arcs- from Land of Departure to Hollow Bastion, Hollow Bastion to Yen Sid’s tower, and from thereon till the ending of the game- we see three stages of Ventus’ development. Throughout the first arc comes in a love for adventure, an eagerness to try new things whilst being shown some, but not all of the darker sides in nature that can occur. Ventus’ naivety shows through most during this time, when everything is a question, a game-- with an underlying surety of catching up to Terra and continuing their journeys together. It’s within the second arc, after witnessing Terra and Aqua fighting in Hollow Bastion, that the difference between Sora and himself really comes into play.

Sora's personality would never allow him to develop any uncertainty about his ties with his friends. Ventus' second arc is namely him questioning his place with Terra and Aqua whilst seeking out new ties in the hope of understanding the old. Though there’s a constant and clear understanding that he will always be tied to the older Keyblade wielders, Ventus seeks clarity in defining this; in establishing just how strong these ties are, and fearing that their bonds may be more breakable than first thought.

By the current point in his timeline in which I’m taking Ventus, he’s yet to uncover the darker facts of his past, but the scene itself follows after one of the very last points in which Ventus shows a clear confidence in himself and what he has in his life. It’s at this point when his maturity has come to a more natural and even level- he regains the surety of his friends he once had without the oblivious nature he held onto prior.

That being said, the ties he does have with Terra and Aqua are consistently important throughout his timeline. In his fear for Terra after speaking with Vanitas-- ’the Terra you know will be gone forever’-- that prompt him into leaving the Land of Departure, giving him a greater purpose beyond merely seeing the sites. It’s indicated in Xehanort’s reports that Terra is Ventus’ weak point; he does seem to hold the elder boy in extremely high regard, constantly denying his faults to the point where he will point out Aqua’s flaws in an argument with no mention of Terra’s own. The two are best friends, close enough to the point where Aqua jokingly refers to them as brothers, and Terra does treat Ventus from the aspect of an elder brother, whilst Ven himself looks up to him greatly.

Aqua is a powerful influence on her own, although it’s greatly her doing which causes Ventus to doubt himself and the ties between the three of them. Aqua can consistently be described as mothering when it comes to Ventus- whilst she doesn’t look down upon him, there are many times where she puts his feelings aside in light of his safety- Ventus is treated at a much younger level than the other two, which causes much of his determination to be as good as them in levels of fighting and indeed, allows him to succeed at this.

Another important aspect to Ventus is his light. As stated above, he’s the type of boy to put things aside for others, help them in any manner he can- he rarely exhibits anger, and never for anything but the most dire of threats and circumstances. But this light has come at the price of having his heart literally torn apart, developing Ventus into one of the two keys which will create the X-blade. Vanitas, the darkness of his heart made physical, is the opposing key, and yet another influence in Ventus’ travels that urges him onwards.

He is the first out of a very small handful of characters to which Ventus clearly exhibits anger, a reaction that remains stark throughout all of their meetings. It’s at Vanitas’ words that Ven leaves the Land of Departure, drawing out a sense of fear within him of losing Terra for good, prompting him to search until he finds him. The second time they meet, Ventus’ confusion peaks from Vanitas’ words—‘consider yourself on probation’. The entirety of Ven’s journey relied on Vanitas to actually make him take the first step- although this step is unknowingly to his own demise.

None of this would have occurred at all without the schemes of Master Xehanort; Ventus’ prior Master, and also the man who separated Ventus and Vanitas from one another, straight from the heart. Though the two have only met the once in Ventus’ perspective, there is a clear onset of intimidation in Ventus’ stature which provides insight into a repressed fear of the man himself. It is also through Xehanort’s actions that Ventus connects with Sora for the first time, leading us in a round robin of just how and what makes Ventus tick.

With the additional development at Promenade, Ventus has matured somewhat. He has a keener sense of what makes Vanitas who he is, and was seeking to find a resolution or even ground between them. There is a further weight on his shoulders as well, due to the X-blade; however Ventus at large hasn’t changed for the most part. All of his personally still ties in canonly with everything stated above. The main difference will be in how he interacts with the main cast as a whole, due to knowing all of them individually.

To bring this down into Ventus as a whole, the ending argument is that you’re plainly looking at a bright and capable teen. He fights for everything he considers right, overcoming painful tragedy with a positive and resolute outlook that things will be okay. What we have here is a teen with enough life experience to provide a comfortable outlook on the more important aspects of his thinking, with many ties to others that have helped develop him in many positive ways. Although Ventus is flawed, at the end of the day it really does come down to putting his friends and others above himself, and in this aspect he clearly flourishes in growth and confidence.

Abilities:
One of the best points I’ve heard for Ventus’ capabilities in personality is that ‘If Vanitas is the fight, Ventus is the flight’. Whilst he’ll always retain a positivity and helpfulness to those around him, he finds it hard to deal with himself and any negative notions that may crop up- they confuse him to the point where he’ll brush them aside for as long as he can, seeking some sort of levy to compromise or brighten the situation until he’s ready to look at it with a positive outlook. He finds it difficult to deal with negative emotions within himself, and contention between others- the part of his heart that could understand and confront these in turn simply isn’t a part of him anymore.

That being said, in a proper fight Ventus is nothing but keen. As much as he has difficulty with emotions, physical battles are something he takes on with ease, breezing through his opponents’ and consistently working upon becoming stronger. Ventus’ greatest strength is his speed, which he does use to great advantage in landing several hits before darting out of the way. He has the endurance to take several harsh hits, although in comparison to Terra and Aqua he is worn down more easily, and can work in a team with ease.

With that being said, his physical and magical abilities are moderately even- Ventus is well round with only a few key attacks that cause more damage than the norm. These attacks don’t work so well if he’s not fighting alone; he has the potential to cause plentiful harm to the members of his party as he does to the enemy.

There were some things that you simply couldn’t replace. He’s been around, now- seen so many worlds, made friends, questioned and answered, learned from experience. Ventus couldn’t even say that he regretted a bit of it; not leaving home, or even… even travelling alone.

His smile was enough of an indication to his peace of mind, newly found and burning with a strong light. Sometimes, it’s the simple answers that really help. The treasure chest stood open in the clearing, full of ‘treasure’- the toys of children, precious in youth. It was in the love Peter and his band of Lost Boys had for every little piece that made them precious, and Ventus couldn’t begin to agree more.

Maybe that’s why he’d wanted to place his own play sword within. The wooden training keyblade had seen better days, run through the hands of two owners, and perhaps it was ready to lie down for a while.

“Are you sure you want to part with something that special?” The question really made him stop and think, about all that had happened. He’d started off this journey trying to find Terra. When he had, things hadn’t changed. He’d still been left behind, told to go home and to wait, always waiting.

It had really turned into a journey to…find himself.

And his practice sword- Terra’s gift, full of nicks and scratches, a little cracked down the middle, he felt like it may just show…everything. All he’d been through, the trials, the hardships, the questions. It as battered, but still so strong, no longer in the condition it had been in when new.

Friendships, they were a little like that too. Always changing.

He’d come a long way to find that out. And so Ventus nods, smile wider, fonder as he looked over the carefully crafted wood, tied together into a symbol of what he was, what he wanted, what he’d accomplished. It was time for this practice blade to retire.

“Yep.” He didn’t really need to hold onto it anymore.

Some things you really couldn’t replace. But his friendship with Terra and Aqua, not matter how nicked and battered-

It would never break.

Character name: Sephiroth
Character fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Version: V2
Canon point: Before the simulated Sister-Ray fight tween the trio (Pre-CC)
Importing development from old game? N/A
Background: SOLDIER, First Class

Changes from canon, if AU: The most obvious difference would be the fact that Sephiroth was born female instead of male. The next one would likely be the fact that Professor Gast decided to take Sephiroth with him when he abandoned ShinRa to head out into the world. Likely because he didn't care to leave the little girl in Hojo's custody, perhaps fearing just what the man might end up doing with her, if left alone with the child and no one to stop him. Gast manages to elude ShinRa and Hojo's search for him and the young Sephiroth, largely by staying on the move and keeping the notable traits which would reveal them hidden as they traveled.

They settled down in Icicle Inn with Ifalna, an actual Cetra/Ancient whom Gast had found, and had fallen in love with. At this point, life was almost normal for the young girl, whom observed the research Gast continued to conduct on the Cetra. After a fashion Gast and Ifalna became something akin to a mother and father to Sephiroth. Thus there was considerable dismay when the idyllic situation came to a screeching halt upon Hojo showing up.

Finally catching up with them some five years after they'd fled ShinRa, with the backup of troops, Hojo sought to not only reclaim Sephiroth, but also to lay claim upon Ifalna and her newly born daughter, Aerith. When Gast protested and attempted to prevent this, he was shot dead before them. Understandably distraught over the death of the only father-figure she had ever known and with the threat obvious toward the remainder of her 'family', Sephiroth lashed out at the troops which attempted to take her into custody in order to remove her from the house. When her actions ended up killing the men, Hojo stepped in to dart her with a tranquilizer so they could remove the three without any further casualties.

It was shortly after their return that Hojo spoke of the girls fighting prowess and the idea to begin SOLDIER was bandied about and begun.

Unfortunately for Hojo, Sephiroth was not the docile child he had likely planned dealing with prior to her kidnapping. She made no bones about the fact she hated and even loathed Hojo, and due to her watching Gast and learning about science from him, often expressed her contempt for the man and what he called science. If she was around when he was rambling at someone about his theories or an experiment, she purposely picked the theory apart, explaining to anyone who would listen to her just on what points Hojo was wrong and sometimes how she thought the idea or theory actually worked.

As she got closer to her teens, the President expressed his desire that she be part of SOLDIER, if not its leader, due to her abilities. Considering the girl had done everything within her power to spite and rebel against Hojo, from belittling him, outright once threatening to kill him and once even nearly escaping the company's custody... Hojo knew that if they told her to join SOLDIER she'd would refuse just to spite them. Thus he decided to use her hatred of him against her and began to forbid her to do the very training they wanted her to do to refine her fighting ability and then eventually Hojo told her she was never to leave the science floor and she would in the end be used to breed children with her exceptional abilities should he ever find a man he deemed worthy enough to attempt such a thing with.

Thus she defiantly left the science floor and sought to join SOLDIER. The men in charge of running the program didn't like being forced to accept her into it and didn't really treat her as part of it until she ended up wiping the floor with what had been one their best candidates for it. When she proved that win definitely wasn't a fluke and she could most likely (if not definitely) whip the ass of every man in SOLDIER, that they grudgingly admitted that the President hadn't made a mistake in forcing them to allow her entry.

While the President had made his desire for her to lead known, she refused to let herself be jumped up to such a position without actually working to actually achieve it. Her professional attitude and cool, aloof demeanor while on the floor held by SOLDIER ended up getting her dubbed an ice queen by some of the men, especially after she rebuffed every attempt made by them towards getting into her bed or getting involved with her beyond a business manner. It was to their surprise later when she actually went and befriended two men, Angeal Hewley and Genesis Rhapsodos.

After she and her friends were sent to Wutai, to fight ShinRa's war there for them, she ended up losing some of her spitfire temper which was so prominent before. While the victories she gained for ShinRa ended up earning her fame and making her something to be aspired to by both genders, the constant fighting wore her spirit down and the only two who could revive it back to a semblance of how it had been before were her friends. They kept her grounded and centered, reminding her, that despite the fact she was capable of great feats of fighting, she was still ultimately human.

Personality:
Sephiroth was raised with the knowledge that she was different than the other people around her. After all, her hair and eyes were unique among everyone she ever met, she was stronger, faster, and far too intelligent some might say at an extremely young age. Growing up as she did under Gast's wing and later with Ifalna, gave her an appreciation for both nature and science done with respect toward the world and the people in it. She considered the subject rather fascinating and often listened to Gast talk about it. During her time with Gast, she would have liked nothing more but to study with him and perhaps someday help others via what she learned from him.

Unfortunately she was never able to do that due to Hojo's return into her life and his terminating the life of the only father-figure she ever knew. Needless to say, this act caused her to despise Hojo from that moment on despite having such limited contact with him. Being returned to Midgar, that despise grew into loathing and full-blown hate as the man attempted to take control over her life and at times treated her like one of his specimens. After realizing the futility of attempting escape after one thwarted attempt, she turned her attention to making the man just as miserable as she was there.

When Hojo began forbidding her to do any exercises which she only messed with to keep herself in shape with, she began to do them more often just to spite him. Though she shortly realized his deceit after a time when he didn't seem quite as angry as she knew he would otherwise be if she really was defying him. But considering there was no real reason to quit and if she did, he would likely crow about how she was finally learning to obey him... she continued working out and eventually learned swordsmanship.

When Hojo told her that she was doomed to remain within his labs and on the floor he controlled for the entire remainder of her life, she didn't first bat an eye. It was what she had expected somewhat, but when he expressed his intentions to actually breed her and treat her like an animal in essence, she hit him and then left the floor, ending up on the floor SOLDIER was based on. Deciding to actually do something that Hojo had no say in, and had told her she'd never be able to do, Sephiroth applied to join SOLDIER.

This drew considerable fuss from the men who ran it. They didn't bother to hide their disdain over a woman seeking to be a fighter and openly expressed such opinions not only to Sephiroth but to the President as well. Any respect Sephiroth might have had for them was lost as they expressed their views that she should just return to where she came and that SOLDIER was meant for only the best and the strongest men. The President settled the issue when he ordered them to accept her, and so they did, but there was somewhat mutual loathing between her and them until she proved the President correct in his decision by kicking the asses of some of their best candidates for the program. She let it be known and shown that she didn't take shit from anyone via aloof physical ass-kicking. She gained a little bit of respect from the men serving the program when she refused to be jumped up to a leadership position shortly after being accepted.

Once ShinRa sent her to Wutai, the war took its toll on her and she became much more serious, professional and unfortunately seemed to be losing some of her previous spirit which had made her be such a thorn in Hojo's side. This wasn't helped any with how the President often seemed to treat her as his personal guard dog at times, calling her in to defend him whenever the whim took him, or sending her to deal with a situation that could have been dealt with much more quietly if he'd sent either the Turks or a squad of troops in to deal with it. If not for the continued support of her friends, reminding her she was human and not some weapon of flesh and bone to be used by the company as they saw fit, she might have begun to lose what little humanity she still possessed at this point.

Sephiroth does have a sense of human emotions like any other woman despite the lack of their public display however. She has joked around with her only two friends, Angeal and Genesis, especially concerning a certain book, the redhead is overfond of. Also due to the behavior and actions of the men she's interacted with throughout her life, she has gotten a somewhat aggressive manner with men whom try to treat her differently due to her gender and their views on it. This aggressiveness was largely tempered though after she became friends with Angeal and Genesis due to their treating her just like she was just 'one of the guys' so to speak and her gender mattered nothing when it came to ability to fight and lead.

Due to the fact that she tends to act aloof and impassive during her public work on the field or in the halls dealing with the troops and those working under her, some have nicknamed the woman an ice queen. However, the name isn't entirely fitting since she does show actual emotion and feelings when alone with her friends. Being professional isn't the entire reason she actually hides what emotions she does have, she's seen how ShinRa uses the connections and emotions people have for others and she's made the silent decision not to give the company any more hold on her than they already possess.

Abilities:
Sephiroth has rather impressive strength and agility, granting her might and speed considerably more than any normal person has due to circumstances of her birth. Though the extent of her actual strength remains rather unknown. She also has a small measure of psychic abilities due to the strength of her mind and will; thus she has some ability to use psychokinesis.

Despite all of this however, Sephiroth is still human when it comes down to it, or rather her body is human, but has been, in a sense, "enhanced" due to the cells she received while she was within the womb of her mother. One more thing to take into account is the fact that due to the Jenova cells which are part of her genetic makeup, her body will actually seek to heal itself should it be injured.

It /is/ possible for the woman to exhaust herself if she fights for too long without proper rest and food however, even if she can likely go longer without such than normal people can. The healing, can also be thwarted as well if there is too much blood loss or the injuries become too extensive in nature.

Attacks wise;
Sephiroth is capable of wielding the Masamune with either one hand or two, depending on whom or what she's facing at the time. She can unleash bursts of energy from her sword, as shown during the 'spar' with Genesis on the simulated 'Sister Ray'. She can pull off Octaslash, which is a very swift sequence of eight sword strikes and the signature Heartless Angel, which hits multiple targets and reduces their health down to next to nothing (or 1 HP in other words).

Sephiroth's stated Limit Break is called Super Nova, which deals a considerable amount of gravity-based damage to all targets and may cause Confusion, Silence, and Slow. She is also known to use several types of Mastered materia: Fire, Ice, Lighting, Earth, Revive & Restore.

TL;DR;
- Psychokinesis
- Heartless Angel
- Super Nova
- Octaslash
- the capability to unleash bursts of energy from her sword (ala the 1st class fun scene in CC)
- self-healing
- enhanced strength, stamina, speed, agility, reflexes etc
- enhanced sight and hearing

Writing Sample:
When she'd first gotten the mission, what she read of it suggested it was nothing more than the routine clean-up of a large group of monsters. Nothing really which should actually get someone like her sent out on it, if you thought about it reasonably, which likely meant it was a PR mission. They didn't care that the mission was a hopeless waste of manpower, all they wanted was to show off their best SOLDIER and what better way to do it than send her out on occasions like this, if only so the people could see just how easy it was for her to wipe out groups of monsters which would usually make mincemeat out of any non-military person and likely a few troopers as well if you wanted to be honest.

Sephiroth had muttered quietly just what she thought of such PR stunts under her breath, which had amused both of her friends to no end to judge by their expressions and the stifled sounds of what she was near certain meant to be laughter. However orders were orders and thus she departed for the specified location in them with a single squad of troopers sent with her most likely just for looks. To judge by what information she had, what was listed would take possibly a few minutes at most for her to dispatch and thus in her mind certainly didn't warrant the dispatch of a backup. Hell, if the squad was a decent one, they could likely deal with this without her, though admittedly it would take them longer and there would likely be injuries regardless of their decency.

However when they actually arrived at the drop off, the sensation that something wasn't entirely right with the mission began to slowly creep up on her. Thus cautioned by nerves, she told the squad to be alert and equally cautious as she led them to point given in the mission brief. What she found when she actually looked up beyond the mob of hounds almost got a curse out of her. The report had stated nothing about a cave system in the region, nor the fact said cave held dragons.

Going back was not an option, any retreat would be frowned on severely and refused most likely. Thus new plans were in order, sending the squad to deal with hounds beyond, Sephiroth left their company to attract the dragon's attention away from that mayhem and onto her.

Character name: Vincent Valentine
Character fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Version: V1
Canon point: Post-Advent Children Complete, Pre-Dirge of Cerberus
Importing development from old game? Nope.
Background: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Vincent
Changes from canon, if AU: N/A

Personality: Vincent Valentine is a vampire brooder. He locked himself in a coffin for twenty-eight years. He’s gloomy and jaded, seemingly unconcerned with the world’s problems, and has a huge guilt complex. His outlook on life is ‘I don't care what you are doing, so much as the idiotic way that you are doing it.’ He wears a raggedly red cape, a gauntlet over his left arm, and pointed metallic boots (for someone who wants to hide from the world, he sure picked an unusual get-up). He has four demons inside of his head, and figuratively even more demons that he carries around.

At least, that’s what he appears to be on the outside. Vincent isn’t as cold as he appears. There are instances that show he isn’t uncaring of what does on around him. While his definition of repenting is rather eccentric, the fact that he’s willing to repent counts more.

Before he was consumed with guilt and sleeping in a coffin, he was a Turk. Surmise what you will from that and what is known about the Turks. He’s killed without shame, and he isn’t a saint. But while serving as a bodyguard, he fell in love with the person he guarded, even loving after being rejected. “As long as she happy,” he says, then it’s all right with him. There was no jealousy. Even after he was “killed,” experimented on, and bitterly ruing his decisions, he still loved her. He was later able to say, ‘When a person has someone they care about that much, giving their life is sometimes the least they can do. And maybe that's what makes us human.’

When he first joined AVALANCHE, his reasons were merely for revenge and hopes of atoning his sins because he felt he might have been able to prevent much of the world’s disasters. Yet, as the game continues, he doesn’t sit out from the conversations—he gives blunt advice and his own opinions on how things should be done, but it’s obvious that he respects AVALANCHE and its leader. In the end, he’s no longer so much of a loner—he’s part of the motley group. Maybe a little stand-offish in the pictures, but definitely one of them. In Advent Children Complete, he goes and saves Cloud (and here it’s shown that Marlene is familiar with Vincent and trusts him), later helping to defeat the BAHAMUT summon. Vincent finally buys a phone, and despite protesting calls from Yuffiecertain people, he still uses it for keeping in touch with those who are his friends. He’s willing to save the world, playing the hero when required, and while he still has as a tendency to brood, he doesn’t separate himself entirely from the world because he’s a part of it.

That’s Vincent in a nutshell.

Abilities:

Turk
It is a known fact that Turks are badass. Vincent is no exception. He received training by Shinra and knows how to handle different guns and rifles.

Post-Turk
Still an excellent gunslinger, with a twist. After experimentation, Vincent gained four demons and he can shapeshift at will—and sometimes unconsciously. The demons are his Limit Breaks.

The demons (quoting from FF wiki because it words it better than I can ever word it)—

Galian Beast
“Vincent transforms into a wild purple beast.

Death Gigas
“Vincent transforms himself into a hulking monster

Hellmaster
“Vincent transforms into a thug wearing a hockey mask and wielding a chainsaw.

Chaos
“Vincent transforms into a winged demon.
(Arguably his most powerful Limit Break.)

Vincent mostly uses Galian Beast and Chaos…and in Dirge of Cerberus he is seen only using these two.

Guns

Final Fantasy VII
Vincent uses a total of thirteen different guns and rifles. His default weapon is Quicksilver (though it has been said that this was retconned in Advent Children for Cerberus), a pistol (Or handgun? Revolver? I’m not an expert in guns, so apologies if I get the term wrong). His Ultimate Weapon is Death Penalty, a rifle (There’s a game glitch with this weapon that’s rather amusing—if Vincent kills a huge number of enemies, his stats allow for him to kill a certain enemy with one shot).

Advent Children
He’s seen utilizing only one gun—Cerberus, a large tri-barrelled, tri-chambered revolver.

Cerberus statistics: “The Cerberus is a semi-automatic, break loading revolver with three barrels and three chambers. It is initially capable of holding 18 shots at once, six per chamber. As shown by Vincent in both the game and the movie, it is reloaded by a breaking mechanism that tilts the barrel and chambers an angle, allowing the ejection of spent cartridges and the placement of fresh rounds, ending with a flick of the wrist that snaps the barrel back into place. Three bullets are fired at once, allowing for only 6 shots per reload. With in-game customization, it can become lighter, more powerful, or hold more ammunition. A Materia Slot can also be equipped on a chain, allowing the use of different Materia to cast spells from its barrels. Accessories such as a scope for extreme accuracy and automatic reloading mechanisms could also be equipped for added dependability.”

Other:
“Flying cape” ability shown in Advent Children. Unnamed, and no explanation given for it. I think SE put it in simply because it looks cool.

Version: V1.1?
Canon point: After his defeat at the end of Birth by Sleep.

Background: Wiki Link. Note that I'm avoiding spoilers for the most recent game in the series, so I have not read over this article in a long while. I apologize for any inconsistencies in advance, since my Vanitas is not spoiler compatible yet!
Changes from canon, if AU:

Instead of vanishing at the end of Birth by Sleep, Vanitas woke up in a plain room, unsure of why he was still alive, where he was, or why he couldn’t talk (unaware that the city of Promenade took the voices of characters at night). But he cared less about that than finding Ventus, determined to finish what they started. A communicator device – a TENEKA – recorded his arrival, and those who knew him – along with several who did not - very quickly took notice. Ventus was among them, but when Vanitas spoke about forging the X-blade with him, the other boy genuinely didn’t know what he meant. It was as if Ventus was from weeks earlier…and, indeed, he was.

No more than a few minutes after this, he confronted Terra and Aqua, who were staying in the same house. He found himself getting tossed out the window and losing yet another fight, which did absolutely nothing to improve his already sour mood. He spoke to several others after recovering, including Sora, who he soon guessed may very well be the one who saved Ventus all those years ago. After all, why else would they have the same face? But he soon got fed up with talking to people, ceased all replies, and left the house, having no particular urge to remain near so many people with strong light in their hearts (or near any people at all, really). So he wandered the city like a hobo, attempting to map out and understand this new world with limited success.

This pattern continued for a few weeks, with the only real break being Ventus finding out about what happens during his final fight with Vanitas back in their own world, and Vanitas failing to convince him to forge the X-Blade repeatedly and getting a pie in the face for asking. But soon, Promenade’s royalty are put to sleep and monsters overrun the city for a full week. Vanitas, used to near-constant fighting, isn’t bothered by the change, and takes advantage of the darkness overrunning the city to confront Ventus, Roxas, and Sora in his Anti-form…all after an unfortunate incident while fighting alongside Terezi, where the troll decided to lick him for all the city to see (because every disaster needs some good comic relief). Later that week, Sora, Roxas, and Ventus are all killed while fighting, though it’s only the latter that upsets Vanitas. Unaware that death is not permanent in Promenade, his resentment for Ventus’ weakness only grows with this development, along with a very complicated mix of other reactions that he makes an effort to not sort through. Instead he keeps to himself, even after the monsters and darkness have vanished and he senses Ventus’ return.

There is one task he can pour his concentration into; payback. The next time he encounters Terezi, Vanitas attacks her and leaves her very seriously wounded, showing her – and everyone else – that he didn’t find her antics funny in the least. Soon after, he finds that The Keyblade Graveyard, or at least a version of it, has appeared on the outskirts of the city, and he takes residence there. A couple of weeks later, an event where several of Prom’s residents are turned into children occurs, and for a week Vanitas gets to experience a childhood that he never had (though he quickly attempts to forget it).

But what happens when Ventus returns from his canon update is not so easily forgotten. Ventus contacts Vanitas privately, asking him to meet up at Castle Oblivion. There, Ventus attempts to make him understand their future – a decade of sleep in a lonely room. Was the X-Blade really worth it, he asked? Vanitas replied only with more denials, more harsh words…until Ventus’ words sent him over the edge.

”Maybe you’re incomplete, but I’m fine on my own.”

Vanitas blindly attacks the other boy, using rage to avoid confronting the fact that those words stung. He nearly kills Ventus – would have, should have, he wasn’t sure – but doesn’t. He drops Void Gear and portals back to the Keyblade Graveyard, and tries to sort out the memories and emotions that the conversation brought up.

That is where his time in Promenade ends, and his time in OPN begins.

Personality:
That Vanitas is a being made entirely of negativity is reflected quite well in his manner. A typical jerk, he is not the sort who would attract a lot of company or friends, nor does he have any interest in doing so. He is, in fact, quite the sadist when it comes to the feelings of others. He enjoys spreading doubt and pain, jealousy and discord, and needs no motivation beyond his own amusement to do so.

As a matter of fact, he has very little motivation of his own, beyond a few very simple goals. Under Master Xehanort’s care, he learned to strive for only one thing – the creation of the X-blade. Naturally, he relished the thought of bringing about the destruction and chaos of a Keyblade War, and was more than happy to do his part. Because of his interest, and because he had known no other way of life since his ‘birth’, he was a loyal student. But his loyalty is fueled only by self-interest. Vanitas does not care about the goals or aspirations of those he’s working with, nor will he go out of his way to work toward their achievement if the task is not to his benefit. Indeed, he would have willingly gone against Xehanort’s orders to ensure the creation of the X-blade and, in fact, nearly did so more than once.

When talking to others, Vanitas is brief, callous, and to the point, the grand exception being when he’s trying to manipulate and exploit doubt. As mentioned before, he does this quite often – destroying the confidence of the weak, encouraging pessimism, and turning ally against ally are fun ways for him to kill time. He enjoys control, manipulation, and power…and his love of power, naturally, extends to his abilities in combat.

However, it isn’t a stretch to say that Vanitas is overconfident. He is fully aware of his strength, but tends to overestimate it’s limits. Only his final defeat at the hands of Ventus and Aqua have come anywhere close to tempering his pride; none of his other fights hurt his self-image at all, despite his often being on the losing side. On that same token, he tends to underestimate the abilities of others.

Vanitas also does not enjoy working or fighting alongside others, even to make up for his own weaknesses. He was trained to be able to take on even the most formidable opponents alone, and believes himself more then capable of always being able to do so. ‘Friendship’ and ‘trust’ are worthless to him, anyway. He doesn’t have to believe in anyone – people are simply tools, useful as nothing more than a means to an end.

Most importantly, one must remember that Vanitas' heart really is filled with nothing but darkness, and negativity colors all of his emotions. He isn't capable of changing this. Vanitas is a mess of all the worst parts within a person, with none of the good to relieve them. Without some sort of goal, he is incredibly unstable and destructive, and doesn't always know what to do with himself. In short, Vanitas is a very dangerous being - one who should not be ignored.

In Promenade, Vanitas found himself without any means to achieve his goal. Ventus’ refusal to fight him and his full awareness of his failure in his own world left Vanitas a bit lost and restless, and a bit more willing to fixate on details outside of his immediate goal, such as the truth behind his resemblance to Sora. His determination to forge the X-Blade hasn't vanished, though, even if the odds are stacked against him achieving this. But it’s his conversation with Ventus that may have started a significant change, forcing him to confront the confusion he felt at the start of his life…and the fact that, in the end, he is only half a person. Only time will tell whether or not these thoughts being brought to the surface will have any other impact in the future.

Abilities:

Vanitas is a being with vast powers of darkness – which, in the Kingdom Hearts universe, is essentially compressed negative energy that can hurt you. A lot. Access to this power gives him several special abilities.

Dark Portals/Darkness Teleportation – Vanitas can open portals of swirling darkness that can teleport him from place to place via otherwise inaccessible paths. He can also use a much more limited form of teleportation that allows him to completely vanish and move within an area of a few feet, typically utilized to trick his opponents in battle.

Darkness Attacks – During a fight, Vanitas can use attacks augmented by darkness to do extensive damage, in such forms as a crescent or multiple balls of energy.

In addition to his darkness related abilities, Vanitas knows some form of Blizzard and Fire spells, which he uses in combination with his darkness attacks.

His weapon is a Keyblade; essentially, a large key-like sword that can unlock anything, from a simple door to the heart of a world. Known as Void Gear, this blade can be summoned at will, and increases his already existing powers greatly.

However, his most powerful ability is independent of all of this. Thanks to his overwhelming negativity, Vanitas has the power to spawn creatures called Unversed – monsters reflective of darker emotions, born from his own body. They can be spawned by the hundreds, possibly even thousands, and exist in many forms, shaped from his own negativity and that of the people they are exposed to in various places. If they are destroyed, their power will always return to him. However, each time one is destroyed, he does feel physical pain. He also cannot control their creation - they come into existence in response to his emotions. In game, Vanitas used these creatures to spread chaos across the worlds and create an opponent that would force Ventus to get stronger.

Lastly, Vanitas feels a limited sort of connection to Ventus - if something major happens to the other boy, Vanitas will be at least vaguely aware of it (to what extent, or if I even bring this up at all, would be left completely up to Ven's mun - canon does not give us firm boundaries for this ability, or even explain how much of a factor it is.)

Writing sample:

Vanitas had only ever seen a Heartless once for himself. It was years ago, when Xehanort had summoned a whole group of them. He remembered the event in detail - it was an exercise in control. Vanitas had ordered a group of Unversed to attack. Whether or not there was more to it then practice, the old man had never said. But the calculating look in his eyes as he had absorbed the scene of the fight, watching both creatures slash away at each other's numbers, made Vanitas think that he had been making some sort of comparison. Trying to decide which would be more useful, maybe.

Normally, Vanitas didn't care about those things. But when his thoughts wandered, and he stared at the spot where it had taken place, he found that he couldn't help but keep his own count of the similarities and differences.

When that first Heartless had appeared, and the shadowy creature had stared at him with those empty golden eyes, he thought that they weren't really so different. Both were castaways, fragments of something that was broken. Monsters.

But there were differences. The Heartless moved with fluidity and grace, in strange contrast to the Unversed's jumpy, erratic, or just out of place motions. There was a certain focus behind their actions, an innate, instinctual purpose that the Unversed lacked. After all, the Unversed were just the product of his own emotions. Incomplete, undirected feelings.

Both of them were pathetic, in his opinion.

He hated the Heartless almost as much as he hated the Unversed. Both were signs of weakness. Heartless only existed because of idiots who couldn’t protect their hearts, and the Unversed only existed because he wasn’t as strong as he could be.
But, unlike the Heartless, the Unversed had a true purpose, one more valuable than a blind search for hearts. They had their role to play.

Just as he and Ventus did.
