IN CHARACTER |
ᘚ Can characters keep their powers? Yes, completely! There is absolutely no power nerfing whatsoever here. ᘚ My character isn't human, or is very large. Do I have to make them human? Nope. It's a dream. ᘚ How are character deaths treated in game? They wake up, that's all. They'll be back and dreaming with everyone else once they go back to sleep. ᘚ What about the language barrier? In general, the answer is the same as it is to most everything else: fuzzy dream logic. No matter what language they speak, everyone can understand one another. Unless you don't want them to, of course, in which case they can do that, too. ᘚ How does time pass in the game compared to real life? It pretty much passes however you want it to; I don't expect there to be a lot of regulation about this. In real life, everyone has a different amount of dreams per night, so feasibly that's true here as well. If you want one month game time to take one day in real life or vice-versa, you're perfectly welcome to. ᘚ Do the characters still have non-Passing dreams? Sure, if you want them to! ᘚ How does canon updating work? Characters fall asleep each night and interact at Passing, and during the day they have their regular, ordinary lives. So essentially, canon updating happens on a continual basis. If you get stuck waiting for canon to update for several months, keep in mind the rules about time passing and bend things until they work for you. ᘚ Can my character's pets/daemon/pokemon come into the dreams with them? Yes. If they're not appable and usually hang out with your character, go for it. |

GAME MECHANICS |
ᘚ Is there a plot behind all this? In general, no, this is mostly a freeform sandbox. If there's overwhelming demand for an overarching plot, I can try to devise one, but it isn't my strong suit so I'd rather not go there. ᘚ Where should I post this post I have in mind? All IC interaction takes place on ![]() ![]() As for ![]() ![]() ᘚ Should I friend the mod journal? You can if you like, but we'd rather you didn't. It has some journals friended that the mods use for our locked discussion posts, so we won't friend you back with the mod journal. If a post goes up that you need to know about, I promise we'll announce it on the OOC comm. ᘚ Can I NPC a character that I don't play? You can to a small extent. It's unrealistic to think that people won't dream about others from their canon, so it's fine to have them mentioned as 'being around' or showing up in the background somewhere. The limit is that you can't write them interacting with anyone without express mod permission. ᘚ Can we playercest? Playercesting is writing a thread between two of your own characters, and yes, it's fine. There's no rule against playing two characters that have close CR, especially in a game like Passing where we allow more than one of each character. The only caveat is that playercested threads can't be used for activity checks. ᘚ I applied for a canon version of a character, but dreaming has been changing them. This is fine! It's even expected. If they end up being exceedingly different from their canon self, you might ask me to make them a V2+ so that someone else can apply for their original canon incarnation if they'd like. |

APPLYING |
ᘚ Can I apply for a dead character? How would that work? Dead characters are residents, and live in the dreaming full time (Sandman reference unintentional). They're free to form up little dream lives including homes, work, friends, etc. -- whether or not they know they're dead is up to you. ᘚ You said three versions of each character. Can that include more than one of a canon version? No, there is only one canon version of each character at one time. ᘚ What about characters that canonly have more than one version? The classic example of this is the Final Fantasy characters showing up in Kingdom Hearts, or the Fullmetal Alchemist manga vs. the first anime being very different. In these cases, characters applied from the second medium will be labeled "V1.#". They're still canon, but they don't count toward the three version limit of each character. The numbering system works as usual, with for example 1.3 being characters all from the same world/verse, it just includes a decimal. ᘚ How AU is enough to be applied for? Unfortunately it's impossible to put hard and fast rules on this, so I encourage anyone that is in question about it to use the potential applications page. The mods are looking for enough difference that someone playing the canon version of that character won't feel like they're being infringed upon. ᘚ Do canon characters taken in from another RP count as canon or AU? It depends on the situation. If they're still more or less their canon selves, they count as V1. Think of it as, if someone else was joining your cast, how much would you have to explain to them about non-canon things in order for them to be up to speed? If the answer is anything other than "very little", they're probably AU, and therefore V2+. If you're applying for one from another RP and aren't sure, you can ask us more specifically about your situation on the potential apps page. Or you can leave the version section blank on your application, and we'll tell you which one it is once we have all the info. ᘚ Are fandom OCs allowed? Yes, fandom OCs are allowed. They will be judged more strictly if they have a lot of preexisting relationships with canon characters, simply because that can be tough and invasive for those players to play against, but I wouldn't say outright no to them. ᘚ In my application, can I give links to threads where my character is a different version, such as applying for a canon version and linking to threads where they're AU? As long as their character still shows well and consistently despite the different circumstances, that's fine. We'll ask you for more samples if we need them. ᘚ No one's accepted my journals into the communities yet! What do? What you do is nag me. No, seriously, I understand being impatient, and ordinarily I try to accept journals into the communities the very moment I get the notif. If need be, please contact one of the mods or PM the mod account. |

MISCELLANEOUS |
ᘚ There's a mod plurk! Yeah, this isn't really a question, I just wasn't sure where else to put it. There is indeed a mod account on plurk, purely to make announcements and allow players who prefer it over IM to contact us privately. Friending it is entirely optional, and of course having a plurk account isn't necessary to play here. If you do have a plurk account, consider following it instead of friending it for privacy concerns. ᘚ I don't agree with a mod decision. What should I do about it? You should talk to us! Rarely will we make 100% rigid decisions. RP is a fluid environment, and especially with so many people it's important to stay flexible. Therefore, please challenge us on whatever you like. We can't promise to acquiesce, but we always want to hear what you have to say and will definitely reconsider our decision. ᘚ My question isn't here! Comment below with it, and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. Some might be added to this list, too. Questions from the former site are also still here |
